Thanks for taking us back to one of our favourite destinations, Jacek. It's a special place, isn't it? We've found there's so much to film here and yet it's also the ideal place to relax afterwards. 👏

The first people to come to the islands were Berber tribes from Morocco who became the Guanches. They were joined in 1000 BC by ancient Iberians fleeing from the Celtic invasion of Spain. Later the Celts, or Celtiberians, showed up on the island, which is why some of the ancient Guanche mummies have red hair. In addition, some Native Americans may have drifted across the Atlantic and settled in the Canaries at some point (Quetzalcoatl?). The mummy of King Tutankhamun of Egypt was found to contain ancient traces of nicotine by scientists analyzing him. Thus tobacco may have made a brief appearance in North Africa in ancient times, brought by seafarers from America.

Lanzarote is awesome! So much to do, so many great places and the people are so warm and welcoming. We've done loads of videos of Lanzarote and will do even more in the future because it is one of our favourite destinations and we will be going back :)

That is a beautifully shot and edited video of a fantastic place. It really captures the essence of Lanzarote. I have been there 10 or 11 times and want to go back again very soon. Congrats on a great video Jacek, thanks for sharing. By the way, were you staying at the Sol Lanzarote in Matagorda? I got at least 2 or 3 glimpses of it. I've stayed there twice and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Wonderful location on the seafront and close to shops and restaurants and bars.

In 1312, my ancestor Lancelotto Malocello went to the island later called Lanzarote. He was looking for the Vivaldi Brothers, who had actually been locked up in a cage in Guinea and executed for stealing gold from the local king. When he landed, eight angry Guanche nobles met him on the beach and demanded that he leave. He took them hostage and the king had to pay a ransom. But the king attacked the next day to get the gold back. The king was taken prisoner and had to swear by Muhammad that he would leave the Genoan captain alone henceforth. Malocello broke his lance in the fight. "Call me Lanzarotto from now on," he said ruefully. He lived on the island for many years until the Guanches forced him and his sons to leave. One of his sons went to live in Catania in Sicily, and I am descended from him.

the guanches were pagans. They followed animism from the western african branch. How could they swear by a man that they never knew the existence?

On the Sick and Wrong Podcast, Episode 602, an English woman told a story about Lanzarote. She was on holiday and, in broad daylight, in a public place and in front of hundreds of tourists, a man pulled his trousers down and had a massive shit! He didn't even try to do it behind a tree or something, just in an open place! She said her 14-year-old daughter was mortified and asked "Is this something that people do?" 😂😂😂
    Nice place, though.

Bees wax Cuevas de los Verdes, not Jameos del Agua, the albino crabs you see there are unique to Lanzarote.
