    I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well th-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

    Way i cast. Tip to lead drop about 5-6ft, slight swing away from me to get the weight outside the rod tip giving the ability to start the cast with the rod at a lower start point, giving more time to load energy into the rod which helps to load the rod.
    I feel myself that starting with bent elbows and the push pull being equal if not slightly more energy put into the pulling with the left hand on the rod butt, and i pull the left hand down more towards my hip than the middle of my stomach.
    Then again ive come over to freshwater from beach fishing, casting 6oz leads on 80lb leaders with 13ft fast action rods and multipliers filled with 15lb mono, using a pendulum cast lol.

    Terry, here I am in TX. and wanting to know how to cast further, as I fish for catfish from the bank. The big ones seem to be out deeper and I Need to reach them. This was a very informative video on just what I needed. Most here talk about a long cast for bass or small cats and I'm talking way less than 75 yds. I need 150 + to get to the big boys laying around. Thanks so much for the video and the help!! Kirk n TX.

    I have 3.75tc rods and wanting to cast bags about 80-100yards. What diameter line and lead would you think I need please ?

    • @markmason13
      @markmason13 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Eric I use .32 line so its about 12lbs and then add a 50lbs braided leader to take the force of the cast and eliminate any stretch in the line. With a good casting technique you should hit 100 yards with .35 line (about 15lbs). If the lake you are fishing as a leader ban then look at the Fox Exocet Double Tapered Mainline or the korda tapered subline, you will lose a bit of distance with the tapered line as they still have a bit of streth in them. I would say with a 3.75 tc rod you would need a 3.5oz lead in the bag to make up a the weight to compress the rod properly but you would have to experiment with different sized leads. Also ples keep in mind that wind, line lay and reels can affect how far you can cast as well as the action of the rod. Also try not to use mono leaders as the knot is very big and can make some rigs unsafe.

    @stephenrobinson7500 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have to say the torrix 12 te special 3.6oz is also great for playing fish too. I would deffo not call it out and out caster. I've the FMJ and Trebuchets now they are out and out casters. I've hit 200y with them many times but not so clever for playing fish...

    Im struggling to cast a solid bag (korda S) with 2OZ lead more than 15 wraps accurate. I use 3lb 10ft Nash scopes. How far can people reading this get to as i really dont like fishing long stiff rods?

    • @AnglingDirectTV
      @AnglingDirectTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Simon, lots of practice is the key, also technique. Hopefully watching this video will help with your technique.
      Having a distance casting mono can help too, keeping your solid bags as tight and neat as possible will help them cast straighter and further as well.
      You should be able to cast a small solid bag 80 yards with your scopes once you get the hang of it.
      If you are really struggling maybe a days casting tuition with Terry is a good option.
      Any fishing over 80 yards you will probably need to step up your gear.

      Terry Edmonds is a casting record holder/professional casting coach so knows a little bit about long range casting. Obviously more to catching fish than just long range fishing, but its a great skill to add to your armoury 🎣💪
