You may know Scott Hatteberg from the Oscar-nominated baseball movie Moneyball from 2011. Chris Pratt portrays the unlikely hero of the real-life 2002 Oakland A's winning streak. But what you may not know is the real Scott Hatteberg had a much better career than just that one memorable moment...

I can’t believe you guys are finally giving us a look at the baseball career of Chris Pratt.
I know right. Thank god chris pratts shoulder didn't hinder him at first Base like it did when he was catching
😂 💀
He also worked in politics, trained some dinos & flew in space
Makes you wonder if Chris applied data science to pick his 2nd wife to get it right this time.
Its so crazy to see how identical the real footage and the movie footage looks cause Pratt copied the exact moves Scott did
Twins fan here. An interesting footnote to the A's Twins back and forth in '02 is that the Twins also were the team that stopped the A's win streak.
…and both teams had some amazing pitching too. That was a lot of fun as a fan.
Also, as a Twins fan, Brad Radke deserves a look in an upcoming video. He was an ace-level workhorse who stuck it out with some awful teams (his 20 win season in 1997 accounted for almost a third of the team's wins that year) and pitched hurt in the final two months of his career to get the Twins to another playoff berth.
Radke deserves so much more love than he's ever gotten outside of Minnesota.
Every pitch he threw caused pain, didn't they? It seemed very odd to send him out there instead of using someone who....wasn't in terrible pain.
@@randallwong7196 I forget exactly what the ailment was that affected him in '06. But yeah the options were for him to 1) pitch in pain or 2) to have surgery and try to come back from it the following season. But he was in his walk year and I think he decided he was done. He kept running himself out there to pitch at his insistence, and Gardy was in the "let the dogs run loose" portion of his managerial career.
A video on Shane Victorino would SLAP. Dude was a solid, speedy outfielder with a great arm, clutch bat, and was part of multiple championship teams in the AL and NL
Not to mention injury forced him to abandon switch hitting but was still an instrumental part of the 2013 Red Sox championship.
dodgers legend
Okay fine I’ll watch Moneyball again
Prolly cuz u a races boyyy!!
"its not that hard, scott"
Really he's right. If you can play catcher at the major league level you can probably play first base successfully without a whole lot of adjustment. I've seen yadier Molina move over to first base a few times over his career without issue even though he was certainly a full time catcher
“It’s incredibly hard”
@@dailyright "Hey, anything worth doing is."
Picking machine~~~
"tell him Ron"
great video! i would KILL to see a career analysis of paul konerko. one of the most consistent, likable players i’ve ever had the joy of watching as a white sox fan.
If he didn't get caught beating them dawgs there'd be a tone more videos both mature and PG rated son.
@@jennyanydots2389 I don’t know about a video of beating dogs, and quite frankly, I don’t care. Pauly was the freaking man.
@@johnobrien1759 He also gRaped them on tape as well.
It's a shame that the Oakland Coliseum is dead. That place is one of the best home-field advantages, when full.
I mean yeah, flooding sewage into the opponents dugout really gives you an edge on the field.
The rats should the A’s mascot could be like baseballs chucky cheese
Those 17 games when the Coliseum was full in the last 20 years were amazing.
Big shoutouts to y'all making me care about the outcome of a now-non-existent team from 2002. Again. These channels are so great. All of you. Much love.
Underrated player that deserves a video.. Michael Young
2 for 2....another great video. I can't wait to watch those Barry Bonds videos you have grouped.
Very cool you pointing out one of my favorite trivia questions: Who hit into a triple play and in his next at bat, hit a grand slam? Scott Hatteberg, August 6th, 2001. I was at this game at Fenway with my sister and her friend. Don't you love it when historic stuff happens in front of you?
Giants fan here. I know I shouldn’t care as much for the A’s but them possibly leaving the Bay Area just wouldn’t feel right. You can’t talk about the A’s right now without highlighting all the bad and ugly, so thank you for highlighting some good in the storied and historic franchise. Hope they stay.
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
Great story!! Very well told!❤
None of these events were "infamous" (which is negative)...just famous. Scott Hatteberg's home run wasn't the attack of Pearl Harbor. It's one of the most exhilarating and joyful moments in the history of the Oakland A's (RIP).
as shown in moneyball, the oakland A's were the pariahs at the time due to using the statistics and ideas of Bill james whereas the traditionalists kept believing in the same bs they had been taught by their coaches and trainers and GMs. in the end the oakland A's and the redsox after them proved that math can be frustrating but never wrong
Fun fact Chris Pratt actually used to play baseball, and was drafted by the Yankees in the 4th round of the 1998 draft! Dude was a stud at lake Stevens.
You're saying that Mario used to be a baseball player?
Thanks. I just wasted 5 minutes of my life googling that just to find out it wasn't true 😂
@@decker528 he was drafted, however he turned it down to move to Maui to peruse acting. It’s a really niche fact, he talked about it in comic con in 2022 when I went. I don’t think it was published unfortunately
@@RyanMariners Why yes, he did very well in the Superstar Baseball and Super Sluggers leagues.
Another fun fact, some time after playing Scott Hatteberg, Chris managed to blow out his right elbow in almost the exact same injury.
Its actually pretty amazing that oakland even had a team, let alone three.
The story that should be put together is how a city with millions of people surrounding it lost 3 winning sports franchises. How could the city of Oakland lose these opportunities over and over?
Underrated player for u to do a video on: Mike Lowell. His 2007 season set records for the Red Sox and he was the 2007 World Series mvp batting 400 in that series after 325 for the season
Do one on Lance Berkman! It looks at the time the Astros were in the NL Central
Man those old Bill King and Ray Fosse calls just take me there. We A's fans were spoiled in the booth for decades.
As a Red Sox fan please make a video on Steve Pearce bro was the reason we won the World Series in 2018
No matter what. CAN NEVER TAKE THAT MOMENT FROM HATTEBURG!
what’s the song at 11:49
How about an episode on my favorite player growing up - Shawn Green. I still remember where I was as a little kid watching the Sportscenter highlights of his four home run game in Milwaukee
Feel like jason werth and hunter pence are 2 guys that are underrated but were really important to their teams.
Vida blue had an incredible streak was an incredible pitcher and he’s a great A’s story.
Trading Giambi also had a lot to do with his significant off field issues, which unfortunately claimed his life
What issues did he have?
That 2002 division was LOADED!
93 wins got the Mariners 3rd place. Craziness!!
I feel like a Derek turnbow video could end up being entertaining
How about an episode on the heart&soul of the 2007 Red Sox team 3B MikeFarrell?
Would love to see a video on Dan Johnson. A player who only hit clutch home runs for the Rays
I think an in depth look at Edgar Martinez or Mike Cameron would be cool especially considering how no one knows them
id like to hear your thoughts on my personal baseball hero
travis fryman, the tigers version, not the indians
Can you cover Brett gardener
Great vid I think a vid about Chooch (Carlos Ruiz) such an underrated catcher ever
Its a channel run by met fans so im shocked we havent gotten it, but id love to see a Wilmer Flores video!
Why no one makes a video about Miguel Tejada? he won the MVP that year.
I have many of these players MLB SportsClix figures. It’s great to learn about their careers, BUT….
Lance Johnson! The One Dog.
The triples machine.
Very well done
I remember Hatteberg and Haselman were the Red Sox battery at catcher before the emergence of Jason Varitek and it was a pretty well balanced platoon.
gotta do a vid on donnie kelly, tigers legend
Cardinals fan here, I believe that lance Berkman gets overlooked by David freese in that game six, but he was the one who kept the game alive multiple times, extended the innings, drove in runs, etc. If he’s not on that team we don’t get anywhere close to the championship.
You should cover brad wilkerson, rondell white, cliff Floyd, josh willingham etc
Nyjer Morgan had a nice little run in Milwaukee that could be fun to look at
An in depth video on Joey Votto would be much appreciated.
Pokey Reese. Somehow after 100 yrs. Baseball names still exist.
reds legend scott hatteberg, also if you could make a brandon phillips video i would be extremely grateful
A Brandon Crawford video would make my life!
travis ishikawa please, giants legend
The Athletics franchise as a whole has been associated with a lot of franchise as whole dating back to when they moved from Philadelphia to KC
Jesus is so sad to see this a city so rich in sports history to lose 3 of the most iconcic teams ever is heartbreaking
Can you make a video on former mariners 3rd baseman Kyle seager. He was my favorite player and holds a very special place in ms fans hearts with his loyalty even throughout all of our bad years.
1:05 infamous? Do you know what that word means?
A video on the illustrious career of Juan Uribe would be awesome
I don't think the word Infamous means what you think it means
I think a good video would be about Travis Ishikawa and the 2014 Giants
That dude is a hiroshima denier
Not an A's fan but, I have a Hattiesburg jersey. he is the icon of blue collar work.
Hatteberg: You want me to take Giambi's spot? What about the fans?
It’d be really crazy and out there but let’s get a Troy Tulo video out there! What a legacy he left behind that’s really been forgotten by most as left with a lot of questions
I have a good idea for a video on an unsung player! The Seattle mariners had a shortstop named Brendan Ryan in the early 2010s. Great defense but not great with the bat. I was 14 years old and I watched almost every game of the 2012 summer, and when King Felix threw his perfect game they won 1-0 and the only run to score was Brendan Ryan from 2nd. I believe this could bring up a hypothetical argument that if that was the most important game in Seattle history that Brendan Ryan (commonly forgotten or thought of as very bad) is actually one of the most important players in franchise history.
Ryan was more deserving of some of those AL shortstop Gold Gloves than Jeter. But who's gonna vote for a guy hitting .220, unless he's named Ozzie Smith?
Rick Ankiel, I would love to see you do a video on him
Do Adam Jones
The A's literally changed the game the statistics now are a core topic of the game and how is understand is damn crazy
What the movie left out, is that the A's WERE A GOOD TEAM aside from losing those 3. 30 teams would have killed to have Zito and Hudson in the rotation. They also had Chavez and Tejada on the side of the infield. On another note, as a lifelong Yankee fan, I still think Giambi was safe at the plate. Jeter got that call on his reputation.
How about a video about Mark Grace?
alfonso soriano as a cubs fan was absolutely insane
Suggestion: Brock Holt on the 2018 Red Sox
Would like to see a video on Ted Simmons.
As a rangers fan I would love a Ian Kinler vid pleaseeee.
How about Mickey Tettleton please? Cheers to All from Hines, Oregon 🍻👋🇺🇲
No mention of Canseco???
After baseball, Hatteburg became a raptor wrangler.
Would love a Nick Swisher video!
Magglio Ordonez vid?
Scott "Chris Pratt" Hatteberg
We need to talk about Eric Chavez super slept on as a kid he was my idol
You should do one on Bernie Williams
Curt Flood is a completely underappreciated icon. Not just off the field (he helped lay the foundation for the MLBPA) but I’d argue underrated when he was ON the field. For a few years his fielding in CF was compared with his contemporary: WILLIE FUCKING MAYS.
Ben zobrist his time on the rays isn’t talked about enough enough as well as his cubs resurgence. With a messy ending to his career.
A's have been in Oakland longer than they have been in Philadelphia, making it a shame they are leaving.
How about a late 90s Omar Vizquel in CLE?
I remember in the 80's and 90's the Buffalo Bills games were televised Nationally but blacked out locally because they didn't sell enough tickets. That's punishment to the fans for not buying enough tickets. It's the franchises way of saying if you want this team in your city then support it by going to the game. If not, it might leave the city entirely! Then a broadcast blackout is the least of your concerns. Hard to envision that today but in the 80's and 90's and 2000's for that matter the Bills didn't have Bills Mafia which is without question today the strongest fanbase for any NFL team.
Boris Diaw on the San Antonio Spurs most recent championship win
wait you mean 'experts' on a baseball subreddit were wrong?!?! Shocker
PLEASE do a video on Ryan Freel, his imaginary friend Farney, and the hustle, joy, and sadness that would lead up to his premature death (as well as his post-humous diagnoses as the first baseball player accredited with CTE)
can you cover joe panik?
Tigers Fan. You should do Brandon Inge. An odd career.
They call it patience but it's discipline
12:40 "infamous" is not a synonym for "famous"
It wasn't even mentioned that Hatteberg learned to play first base. That saved his career. There also weren't any jokes involving Chris Pratt and scenes from Moneyball. Incomplete video IMO
Playing 180 odd games, and then to have a ONE game playoff for the Wildcard makes absolutely no sense. Should be a full 5 game series.
EASILY the BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION about Moneyball is that these ideas began in 2002.
All those pitchers, Chavez, Giambi, Tejada, etc. Were all acquired using the talents and evaluations of the Moneyball method WELL before 2002. Drives me nuts whenever people use that misconception as a criticism of Moneyball.
Howe went off his gut down the stretch and away from analytics game plan in playoffs its well documented. They came up with math formula before season on that they needed 99 wins to get into the playoffs they were right on. It would have been interesting if they started Hattiesburg from the beginning of season.
This is why we should discontinue the 162 game season and multiply the VALUABLE GAMES (like win or go home games) found in the playoffs. Say half the teams get in the “playoffs” but you reward the best teams with one or even two byes.
First two rounds best of three
Next round best of five
AL and NL championship round and would series best of seven.
This way games in August will have greater meaning as the 14-20 ranked teams will be battling it out for the final
Spots.
Talk about Ryan Robert’s one breakout year with the dbacks in 2011 where he had a walkoff grand slam against the dodgers
Scotty H Pickin Machine 🎉🎉🎉
Todd Helton for a video please! Great work!
Shoot sorry it looks like you already did my bad
I think Chris Pratt would make the Oakland A’s team now 😂 I say this with a tinge of anger as an A’s fan
