I remember finishing this game as a child and feeling SUPER proud of it. I was 10 years old, learning my first steps on english (not my country's language) and used to write down the things I had to do, so that I would not forget what the next steps on the story were. Back in the day internet was not a thing - So it required pure patience and many months. To this day I'm afraid of trying to play it again just because I feel I will never again be THAT happy with the game... But watching your playthrough and hearing all the sound effects, the songs, the same evolutions I managed to get, submarimon and all the nuances of the story made my day! I remember beating this game as an actual child, after playing it for weeks, with a lvl 80 cannodramon in the end. I discovered the magic of counters, and managed to get the later parts of the game without problems, except getting lost a TON of times with drimogemon, which I guess led to a lot of extra grinding. And, because it was the 2003 version, when I beat the ''final boss'', I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to continue the ''main quest'' because the game didn't end, and I didn't know for like 15 years that I did in fact beat it and all that was left was the post-game.

I love DW3/2003 and I still do but I only ever played the PAL version because it's the only version available to me when I was young. Patamon is my favorite digimon in this game. He has high wisdom and highest MP growth rate that's perfect for spamming Soul Snatcher with little wisdom investment at the beginning when grinding levels because he can get Digitamamon fast. And he also has one of the fastest BlackWargreymon route. His Phoenixmon is quite fast too or might be the fastest tbh.
What a splendid run! Well done! I never finished this game as a child since the punishments for defeat were so severe, but I'd love to go back to it. Looking forward to seeing more DW3 content thanks to my new fancypants subscription to your channel!

Nice! I notice so far the one that consistently attract more viewer on this YT channel is the Final Fantasy 7 remake & this Digimon World 3 project, so maybe consider not to abandon this project but keep the variety game on twitch stream ofcourse, to prevent the viewer from boredom

This version doesn't have any post game content, but I am planning on doing something similar in which you beat the Super Boss Keith on the Japanese Version of the game. 100% also doesn't really exist as this game has no percentage counter. It's therefore 100% arbitrarily defined, depending on what you consider 100% it could range between 30 and 500 hours.
Almost correct! Purely equipping it doesn't have that effect, but if your Digimon Counters you Blast Gauge will not increase from the hit you initially took

also those crits in the admin center...i played trough the game several times and noticed more crits there every time...Gallantmon always blitzed trough those fights because of that At some Point i thought "maybe they have a higher critchance because you cant easily rest/save inbetween"
I can see why Patamon isn't people's first choice of Digimon when speedrunning this game. I've now seen a Kotemon Speedrun, Guilmon Speedrun, Kumamon Speedrun and Patamon Speedrun. I'm aware of an Agumon Speedrun and a Monmon Speedrun that I'd like to check out, but I'm not sure if there's a Renamon Speedrun.
Renamon is the only Digimon that has not been used in a full run yet. I think the furthest I've gotten was around 3 hours in, but I wasn't able to finish one just yet.
Because WarGrowlmon is oretty bad unfortunately. The skills he learns are weak. You also get MetalMamemon way earlier, he has Metal Attack, Mechanical bash and Energetic Bomb
For Renamon I would be training strength and speed just like wer ith almost everyone else. Only at the very beginning I train a little bit of Defense so Renamon doesn't die instantly. Renamons best Digivolution is Kabuterimon. You get Stingmon by leveling Kyubimon to Lv 40. Then level Stingmon to 20 I think and use Kabuterimon for Hammer Rush

Correct, because the bonus damage gets applied once per hand It might not actually be a glitch, but that would make it a big mess up in terms of balance
The problem is that attacking generally isn't the strongest option but countering is usually. The first good weapon for Monmon doesn't allow for counters which sucks a lot. Furthermore Monmon has no good skill it can use for Galacticmon
What do you mean exactly? Digivolutions are a bit convoluted in this game, there are evolution trees, but there is no specific evolution line you can go for
I've always wondered why no one chooses to crack the game on any mon by just training machine for extra HP and allowing counter crest to completely wreck everything bar the first amaterasu aoa leader's final mon...You can be as slow as you want to be doubled and take away armor to one round everyone which might help clear bosses quicker on things like patamon. You just have to spam heals.
Freeing up speed/strength training after south gym offers you machine training, allows you to train your wisdom up to evade nearly every spell and force physical hits while securing ohkos on everyone but bosses. This saves time on annoying bosses like persiamon since helter skelter will always miss. Still, that final mon for aoa 1st leader is a pain, but since hell mostly be auto attacking, every now and then you won't fall asleep (sleep accessory helps this a little bit) and counter may proc. American version I always just abuse HP and counter crest. If you lucked out with a search crest in dd factory, you can throw that on instead of elemental powers since you're not going to be auto attacking. Crits work on counters, tech, and attacks though obviously it's really annoying to obtain. This sort of strat works really well on agumon since he's so god damn slow with massive HP. Soaking up massive damage while dishing them out, healing him back up 2-5k whenever necessary.
For anyone just trying to use patamon in the maniac pack, just train it to angemon small heal and that's it until you get heals on veemon or something to replace him lol. Just saves a ton of money but its useful. I just give him all the extra gear I find like the bandana, shield, armor, and whatever extra shield I find since he's really just there to buy time to revive your carries. If you want him to survive against stronger bosses while being under leveled you can gear him up in the black market with the two most defensive shields they have along with better helm/armor. This mainly just keeps him alive for another turn to properly abuse the turn system.
@@ThaiNguyen-ng3wp The problem is that some attacks are not able to be countered so you have to have ways to damage those. Counter Crest is also not available until after Suzaku Leader. Lastly enemies will outspeed you easily. Machine doesn't give you enough HP to take 2 hits, especially with Patamon.
@@desa35 no no, you train speed normally like you did during the first prepped portion of your run, but then you opt for machine when you get to south sector with spare tp and future level ups. With shields equipped and machine training patamon can definitely survive 2 hits bar crits. Wisdom at high enough levels will have you dodge their spells, sometimes ai will just not cast because it is so high. Then you just ohko tech wild encounters with your high wisdom and counter crest bosses until you kill or blast. Being slow is actually an advantage on counters. You will counter twice and develop blast twice as fast. The tricky part is managing to give yourself enough speed to reliably hit while doing so. Patamon is going to struggle vs bosses no matter how you slice it but counter procs can get you very fast clears if you get lucky and manage to basically double them with their own move. Accuracy can be shaky but you can luck out with a crazy time if you land both in a single turn on all of their mons. Double shields, hat and armor in the BM will allow Patamon to live 2 strikes from physical bosses with average machine training results. You have to think of HP as more of an offensive stat and forgo the dependency on strength in exchange for reflective damage. You played pokemon, so the best analogy is wobuffet who has sat in ubers for generations on conception with this exact formula. Massive hp, reflect back. Building this way offers you to trade strength for health, and speed for wisdom. The wisdom is what will make those pesky techs you can't counter pretty worthless. Once you get it high enough, they won't even cast. They'll just auto because they see your defense stat is atrocious. Just make sure you can actually hit them.
Also, a lot of people don't seem to be aware, but if you succeed in a challenge attempt, you can't succeed in another challenge attempt for the same stat twice with the same mon. I wanted to make sure newer players would be sure to switch it up and not just try and train machine entirely. Generally this type of strat is for those who know the damage wisdom and speed thresholds. Example, go for 5 tp into machine as is, then 1 into wisdom or speed depending on what you need, then you can go back to 5 tp on machine with a refreshed success rate. You can prioritize whichever stat of course but thats how I refresh training. You can save time with 5 or 10 tp uses if you know exactly what you need and when but if you need specific hp thats how you fit more challenge sessions into the same stat without too many failures. As is, typically yields a bit more unless the training growth for that mons stat is great, then its worth trying a challenge which saves a bit of animation time.
I never understand why people bother to use Patamon, Kumamon and Agumon. Top 3 of the slowest to lvl up. Once I know that Monmon, Renamon and Veemon is top 3 fastest to lvl up, I never bother to use another digimon. Is the 3 slowest have better evolution paths or stats growth?
The best Digimon to use is actually Kotemon. If you look at my channel, I've already done runs with Kumamon, Patamon and Kotemon with Kotemon currently being the fastest Rookies available. Generally my goal is to do runs with all of them. Also Veemon does not level up quickly, it's Guilmon you're thinking of. Monmon has the best EXP curve, followed by Renamon and Guilmon with the second best.
Oh and yes, Kotemon is the best due to his evolution path, his ability to wield 2 handed swords (Just like Agumon, Veemon and Guilmon) ans having decent stats
@@desa35 I got back with a bit of research and got this: 1. Monmon 2. Renamon = Guilmon (ties) 3. Veemon = Kotemon (ties) 4. Patamon = Agumon 5. Kumamon True, you can say that the fastest 3 is Monmon, Renamon and Guilmon then. While Monmon has good main line evolution, his evolution branch sucks. So I can see why he's the fastest.
You mean for the post game content or for the nerfed Counter Crest? I do plan on doing a run with the post game content of DW2003, but I'm not planning on doing Any% with 2003 cause the reduced Counter Crest chance makes the run pretty stale, the strats would not change at all
Have you thought about resetting to save for good level 8 training a few times? It seems that good results in training help you early a lot. You might lose a minute or two, but considering you grind on Triceramon for minutes after, you might make up what you lost by better stats. Also, why don't you play on epsxe?
This route was a very basic version, I got lots of potential improvement in mind. However the problem is that training takes several minutes to go back and forth and grinding Triceramon is not that slow really. epsxe is an emulator so I'd rather not use it. It's slower than a console and playing on console is generally what I'm aiming for when doing my speedruns.
@@desa35 I understand, however going from Guardromon in Asuka and saving takes only a minute or so, so you could fit 1 or 2 resets to save before you do a full reset if you're not satisfied with training. Maybe trying to hit 200 strength would 2-shot Triceramon and one shot (some) South Sector digis? It would for sure one-shot Gekomon. Maybe even 3-shot Suzaku leader's Shogun? Oh and I recommended epsxe because I was convinced it runs faster. You always nag about bad performance due to the number of polygons, but I never noticed stutters on my emulator. I've watched the Monmon world record, which was done on an emulator, and the menus and selection are way more smooth than what you seem to be encountering in your speed runs. But reading on the internet now it seems epsxe 1.9.0 is actually slightly slower than PS1/2. TIL
@@Milecarful I was considering going a more Strength based route in the future once I return to this rookie / game so I'll keep it in mind, but you need to consider that survivability against MT needs to be present, I need to be able to kill him + resetting from a save is extremel, inefficient, I'd rather try and avoid that. And as you mentioned, 1.9 is the only legal emulator and it's slower. Speedrunning tries to stay as true to simplicity as possible, meaning Game + Console. Emulators, as they aren't official most of the time, are generally not allowed unless they are slower than the actual console.
Just happen to recommend this. I like digimon game. I remember digimon world 3 when i was a child didnt finish it because of a boss on the underground dont remember the name it a ball like digimon it was underground near asuka the normal digimin encounter is like a blob digimon like muk on pokemon, even if i got all party into mega he wipe me on the floor. When i grown older i came back by using my phone emu, i beat the game. Digimon 3 is good but the story become chaotic, a game like badge gathering like pokemon into sao like plot cant log out into end of the world all into one. Hope the story is a bit linear. I Like the sprite and the ost of this game but i still love digimon world 1 the most where im a masochist grind just let my digimon die at the end like monster rancher.

I love this game my team would be agumon veemon and patamon and I would start with the c team just to have 2 extra good exp fights eairly on for fighting paildramon and metalgreymon
I can still squeeze out quite a bit of time for Patamon, I imagine sub 8 is more than reasonable, if you go completely bonkers you could probably even hit sub 7:30 or better
No, I did the entire game. If you are talking about Card battles or the part after Galactimon none of them are required to beat the game Furthermore the american version stops after Galacticmon, there is nothing to do afterwards

2 handed weapons double your stats??? I need to remember this as I can't find ANY info about it anywhere
They don't double your stats, but two handed weapons apply their Attack Stat twice, once per hand. That's why they are this powerful.

Out of curiosity, how are you playing this game? Is it on PC with a emulator or have you got a specific PlayStation console with the actual disk?

Hi, auf welcher Konsole oder Emulator bzw. Einstellungen läuft das Spiel ohne diese Viereck-Nachlade Flächen? Ich Spiele es Momentan via Disk auf der PS3 und die Ladezeiten sind schon echt hart. Ich spiele Blind und finde dein Speedrun sehr hilfreich und unterhaltsam =)

Have you tried monmon? Seems OP since it needs much less exp to evolve and it has skills to counter every type of digimon, making 1hit/ko really easy.
Monmon is definitely not WR material, but he can definitely get into the 6:5x range I'd say
The problem is that attacking generally isn't the strongest option but countering is usually. The first good weapon for Monmon doesn't allow for counters which sucks a lot. Furthermore Monmon has no good skill it can use for Galacticmon

What do you mean exactly? Digivolutions are a bit convoluted in this game, there are evolution trees, but there is no specific evolution line you can go for

I've always wondered why no one chooses to crack the game on any mon by just training machine for extra HP and allowing counter crest to completely wreck everything bar the first amaterasu aoa leader's final mon...You can be as slow as you want to be doubled and take away armor to one round everyone which might help clear bosses quicker on things like patamon. You just have to spam heals.
Freeing up speed/strength training after south gym offers you machine training, allows you to train your wisdom up to evade nearly every spell and force physical hits while securing ohkos on everyone but bosses.
This saves time on annoying bosses like persiamon since helter skelter will always miss. Still, that final mon for aoa 1st leader is a pain, but since hell mostly be auto attacking, every now and then you won't fall asleep (sleep accessory helps this a little bit) and counter may proc.
American version I always just abuse HP and counter crest. If you lucked out with a search crest in dd factory, you can throw that on instead of elemental powers since you're not going to be auto attacking. Crits work on counters, tech, and attacks though obviously it's really annoying to obtain.
This sort of strat works really well on agumon since he's so god damn slow with massive HP. Soaking up massive damage while dishing them out, healing him back up 2-5k whenever necessary.
For anyone just trying to use patamon in the maniac pack, just train it to angemon small heal and that's it until you get heals on veemon or something to replace him lol. Just saves a ton of money but its useful. I just give him all the extra gear I find like the bandana, shield, armor, and whatever extra shield I find since he's really just there to buy time to revive your carries.
If you want him to survive against stronger bosses while being under leveled you can gear him up in the black market with the two most defensive shields they have along with better helm/armor. This mainly just keeps him alive for another turn to properly abuse the turn system.
@@ThaiNguyen-ng3wp The problem is that some attacks are not able to be countered so you have to have ways to damage those. Counter Crest is also not available until after Suzaku Leader.
Lastly enemies will outspeed you easily. Machine doesn't give you enough HP to take 2 hits, especially with Patamon.
@@desa35 no no, you train speed normally like you did during the first prepped portion of your run, but then you opt for machine when you get to south sector with spare tp and future level ups.
With shields equipped and machine training patamon can definitely survive 2 hits bar crits.
Wisdom at high enough levels will have you dodge their spells, sometimes ai will just not cast because it is so high.
Then you just ohko tech wild encounters with your high wisdom and counter crest bosses until you kill or blast.
Being slow is actually an advantage on counters. You will counter twice and develop blast twice as fast. The tricky part is managing to give yourself enough speed to reliably hit while doing so.
Patamon is going to struggle vs bosses no matter how you slice it but counter procs can get you very fast clears if you get lucky and manage to basically double them with their own move. Accuracy can be shaky but you can luck out with a crazy time if you land both in a single turn on all of their mons.
Double shields, hat and armor in the BM will allow Patamon to live 2 strikes from physical bosses with average machine training results.
You have to think of HP as more of an offensive stat and forgo the dependency on strength in exchange for reflective damage.
You played pokemon, so the best analogy is wobuffet who has sat in ubers for generations on conception with this exact formula. Massive hp, reflect back.
Building this way offers you to trade strength for health, and speed for wisdom. The wisdom is what will make those pesky techs you can't counter pretty worthless. Once you get it high enough, they won't even cast. They'll just auto because they see your defense stat is atrocious. Just make sure you can actually hit them.
Also, a lot of people don't seem to be aware, but if you succeed in a challenge attempt, you can't succeed in another challenge attempt for the same stat twice with the same mon.
I wanted to make sure newer players would be sure to switch it up and not just try and train machine entirely. Generally this type of strat is for those who know the damage wisdom and speed thresholds.
Example, go for 5 tp into machine as is, then 1 into wisdom or speed depending on what you need, then you can go back to 5 tp on machine with a refreshed success rate. You can prioritize whichever stat of course but thats how I refresh training.
You can save time with 5 or 10 tp uses if you know exactly what you need and when but if you need specific hp thats how you fit more challenge sessions into the same stat without too many failures.
As is, typically yields a bit more unless the training growth for that mons stat is great, then its worth trying a challenge which saves a bit of animation time.

I never understand why people bother to use Patamon, Kumamon and Agumon. Top 3 of the slowest to lvl up.
Once I know that Monmon, Renamon and Veemon is top 3 fastest to lvl up, I never bother to use another digimon.
Is the 3 slowest have better evolution paths or stats growth?
The best Digimon to use is actually Kotemon. If you look at my channel, I've already done runs with Kumamon, Patamon and Kotemon with Kotemon currently being the fastest Rookies available.
Generally my goal is to do runs with all of them.
Also Veemon does not level up quickly, it's Guilmon you're thinking of. Monmon has the best EXP curve, followed by Renamon and Guilmon with the second best.
Oh and yes, Kotemon is the best due to his evolution path, his ability to wield 2 handed swords (Just like Agumon, Veemon and Guilmon) ans having decent stats

1. Monmon
2. Renamon = Guilmon (ties)
3. Veemon = Kotemon (ties)
4. Patamon = Agumon
5. Kumamon
True, you can say that the fastest 3 is Monmon, Renamon and Guilmon then. While Monmon has good main line evolution, his evolution branch sucks. So I can see why he's the fastest.

I do plan on doing a run with the post game content of DW2003, but I'm not planning on doing Any% with 2003 cause the reduced Counter Crest chance makes the run pretty stale, the strats would not change at all

Have you thought about resetting to save for good level 8 training a few times? It seems that good results in training help you early a lot. You might lose a minute or two, but considering you grind on Triceramon for minutes after, you might make up what you lost by better stats.
Also, why don't you play on epsxe?
This route was a very basic version, I got lots of potential improvement in mind.
However the problem is that training takes several minutes to go back and forth and grinding Triceramon is not that slow really.
epsxe is an emulator so I'd rather not use it. It's slower than a console and playing on console is generally what I'm aiming for when doing my speedruns.
@@desa35 I understand, however going from Guardromon in Asuka and saving takes only a minute or so, so you could fit 1 or 2 resets to save before you do a full reset if you're not satisfied with training. Maybe trying to hit 200 strength would 2-shot Triceramon and one shot (some) South Sector digis? It would for sure one-shot Gekomon. Maybe even 3-shot Suzaku leader's Shogun?
Oh and I recommended epsxe because I was convinced it runs faster. You always nag about bad performance due to the number of polygons, but I never noticed stutters on my emulator. I've watched the Monmon world record, which was done on an emulator, and the menus and selection are way more smooth than what you seem to be encountering in your speed runs. But reading on the internet now it seems epsxe 1.9.0 is actually slightly slower than PS1/2. TIL
@@Milecarful I was considering going a more Strength based route in the future once I return to this rookie / game so I'll keep it in mind, but you need to consider that survivability against MT needs to be present, I need to be able to kill him + resetting from a save is extremel, inefficient, I'd rather try and avoid that.
And as you mentioned, 1.9 is the only legal emulator and it's slower. Speedrunning tries to stay as true to simplicity as possible, meaning Game + Console. Emulators, as they aren't official most of the time, are generally not allowed unless they are slower than the actual console.

Just happen to recommend this. I like digimon game. I remember digimon world 3 when i was a child didnt finish it because of a boss on the underground dont remember the name it a ball like digimon it was underground near asuka the normal digimin encounter is like a blob digimon like muk on pokemon, even if i got all party into mega he wipe me on the floor. When i grown older i came back by using my phone emu, i beat the game. Digimon 3 is good but the story become chaotic, a game like badge gathering like pokemon into sao like plot cant log out into end of the world all into one. Hope the story is a bit linear. I Like the sprite and the ost of this game but i still love digimon world 1 the most where im a masochist grind just let my digimon die at the end like monster rancher.
yo, i beat the game when i was 8 lmao, not even close to my teens, it took me hundreds if not thousands of hours tho xD, if i remember it correctly i had every evolution in 99 aswell, the only thing i didn't understand back then was how to play the cardgame :(
