i used to think that way. for me also it was strange why he’s popping up in my feed everyday so one day i started watching this anime and it was downright boring until this last scene in the above video. I became interested in his character. side cast was just trash to me. i just wanted to know more about the main character known as ayanokōji because he was so unique than all the other main characters. i watched the anime but it didn’t satisfied my curiosity so i read light novel. ln was also good. i have learned a lot from his character. i don’t know how to say it but this anime was very close to real world for me.
Trauma builds character by the way so that he has no redeeming qualities is a straight up lie. Did you ever read Berserk or Vinland Saga? Also he is not treating others like trash, just because he has a trauma. He is using everything in existence to win. If he needs to sacrifice other people for it he will do so. If you really have no boundaries when it comes to the things you are willing to do, you are not able to lose, because you will use everything to your advantage and i really mean EVERYTHING. The thing is that most people (myself included) have a moral compass that tells them what is right and what is wrong. Exactly like in your comment: You think it is wrong to treat others like trash and you are completly right. But at the same time thats also the reason why we sometimes fail. Technically its possible to win in every situation. You can be smarter, stronger, faster etc. then everyone else if you read every book, make every workout, use the abilitys of other people to get better (like coaches or teachers), use the emotions of people to manipulate them etc. literally everything you need to do to win in this specific scenario. At this point not even talent can save you from someone that used everything in existence to outskill you. But thats only a power fantasy that no one will really achive. We are beings driven by emotions. No one can become like the protagonist of this show and its a good thing. That makes us human. But back to your question. Why does everyone likes him? For me its exactly that power fantasy of an inhuman monster that fights other monsters in order to be the best. I also like gambling animes, so thats also something that appeals to me.
