DISCLAIMER: I do not support Jonochrome or his actions! At all! I am separating art from artist, and I will not be talking about his situation in this video. Thanks. :)
I like how when Flumpty comes out to play in the third game, almost all of the unique mechanics that each game had are used, it feels like a climax and send off to the series.
Here is why the "no color green" is so genius: While it can be considered more harmonious and better art to omit as many colors as possible and have as limited of a color palette as possible, this can work just as well by omitting only one or two colors and otherwise having total freedom. In contrast, limiting the green to only the buttons has the player subconsciously associate it with safety as it's the color of the mechanism keeping you safe and that the color does not exist within the characters or setting the player is to view as dangerous.
Fun fact: in flumpty's 2, when Blam turns his head around, you can safely turn the lights on and continue your duties, it's a very interesting little detail that the gameplay has, and does a good use of his character design. In any other fnaf game you would expect him to instantly kill you if you didn't waited for him to leave.
A cool thing about flumptys 3 hard boiled, is that until you beat it, you never actually reached 6 am, and instead flumpty would make the time some breakfast pun (ham, spam, salami). The night never ends until then, and it’s all been the same night up until then.

I don't think people take into consideration how special Flumpty's was at the time. Most early FNAF fan games were usually rather crude and ametuerish. Not to shame the people making those games, but Flumpty's was the first one that felt quality made, thanks to the amazing 2d art which added to the single night playthrough, helped differentiate the series from the other fan content.
@@HankJWimbleton-v1m It's funny because almost all fan games are a bunch of 2D images, they look like 3D because they're pre-rendered, like Ps1 Resident Evil games. Nice to see Flumpty's getting love, even after the whole creator controversy. Flumptys always been one of my favorites, so it's good to see it still being talked about!
Fun fact: jonochrome said during the cancellation of owaf and the beginning of onaf3 that he always wanted for some reason to end flumpty with the main antagonist (da egg) floating into space and basically "ending the joke that lasted for these years", which it's a nice way to end the series, flumpty understanding that the joke is over is something that it's both sad and understandable, because if you keep saying the same joke, it will become stale, and that's not what's flumpty's series is about.
You know despite after everything thing that has happened to Jonochrome it still is absolutely incredible that the ONAF series to this day still has such a very passionate and creative cult following. No matter what happens we shall all know that our lovable little comedic egg will never die in our hearts.

Flumpty’s is something else entirely. The first one, sure it’s another FNaF 1 clone, but it makes itself unique and is amazingly creative. Flumpty’s 2 is an absolutely amazing and fresh FNaF experience, especially when most other fangames were still just copying FNaF 1 or each other. Then we got 3 which is an absolute masterpiece with Flumpty Night being the most perfect end to the series. Also, Eleggtro Swing is an absolute bop
Flumpty saying “I’ll miss you” made my heart break a little bit more when I realized that he was literally talking to the player. This was the last time an official Flumpty’s game was made. And there won’t be any more ever again. We’ll all miss you, Flumpty.
I was more obsessed with this fan game probably more then the fnaf games at one point. It was extremely disappointing to hear what Jonochrome did but at least he handled it the best he could and just disappear from the internet unlike other internet groomers
@@tortoisethetortoise4536 tbh I kinda hope he returns having reformed himself, considering how well he's handled the situation I wouldn't mind welcoming him back for another chance once he's fixed himself up

I'm glad Flumpty's is getting more love. I see rarely anyone talk about it anymore. As someone who's a fan of Newgrounds humor. I'm so glad my two favorite things FNAF and Internet culture can be combined into something amazing
It was getting quite a bit of love around the game’s release, but quickly dwindled due to the elephant in the room. The games themselves are genuinely incredible fan games, it’s just hard to really talk about much anymore considering the creator itself
@@bluerious5475 I do feel like its a bit too harsh, considering how the creator actually responded like a mature person, and had already ended things and been seeing professional help before this came to light, instead of making excuses and trying to justify it like some other folks did. ONAF was an inspiration to me as a younger Scratch game dev when it came out. I hold many fond memories to it and the sequels challenged me to try even harder. My favorite game in the trilogy has to be ONAF 3 though-it had so many neat mechanics and holds a special place in my heart
I can appreciate that he at least made sure he could beat the game himself before releasing a hard mode. It's pure chance that anyone ever beat the all/20 modes in fnaf, because scott thought all of them to be impossible (still hiding easter eggs in the later games, knowing someone crazy enough would actually do it).
10:20 In the upper left corner, there is some green, but I'm pretty sure that's just a strange shade of yellow, but I think he definitely did a great job avoiding using any tones of green and green in general for anything other than the UI.
Flumptys will always be a game series that I come back to. Having demonic cartoony looking characters rather than (semi) realistic animatronics is super creative. While I do not support the creator anymore, I still have to give an A for creativity.
@@jdcarcosa_9393 Childish allegations don't help your cause. Jonochrome should come back if he so feels, we have no right to hold a grudge against him.
I absolutely love how the extra mechanics flumpty throws you during the 2nd night of 3 are clearly based on mechanics from 1 and 2, so if you've played them, you can immediately recognize them and work with them, like the doors and energy management from 1, the clown and patience/exposure meter from 2. But then as soon as you start getting comfortable with them, suddenly you get hit with curveballs, like the rooms switching and the flumpty trying to turn the door power off that throw you straight into panic mode, its just a masterful way to create chaos and panic while the player still feels like they got challenges over the course of the night they could tackle.
Another great thing in the ending of ONaF 3 is that when you beat Flumpty Night, the clock near the door- It's minute hand is on 12, and hour hand is on six... or at least where 6 is supposed to be. There's no 6 on the clock when you beat Flumpty Night. But when you beat Hard Boiled Mode, the clock is reading 6AM correctly with six back in place. You survived till the true 6AM and won.
It would be sick to see you cover the Five Nights at Wario's series. Despite the graphics, the gameplay gets really good in the later games. The dev even updated the older games and added new gameplay, new modes, everything! Basically content to fill dozens of different fangames, all compacted into six! Plus, the games do something that I have never seen in any other FNAF games ever. You'd just have to see it to believe it. All I need to say is that players need to have all of the games installed at the same time.
@@sunsetlover123-y7c which is probably why we rarely get "five nights at franchise" games anymore and instead just games based off of the FNAF series, so many people want to be in the fanverse.
I remember reading the Reddit post of Scott announcing the Fanverse, and I was ecstatic when he essentially announced One Night at Flumpty's 3. These games will always hold a special place in my heart, no matter how many other FNAF games, official or fan made, are made.
This is a really good video essay. I can't really say anything about the editing because I don't know anything about it, but the script flows perfectly between topics. You've earned a sub from me. Nice work on this.
one of my favorite things about onaf 3 is the fact that if you flash your camera while Grunkfus is in the hallway, his eyes can still be seen in the dark and you're given like one or two seconds to realize you screwed up before he attacks. another is that the pictures of each character at the end of the game is actually them right before they're killed by Flumpty between nights
People really never gave this game enough credit, especially after the controversy. At the time when the first game came out, it was genuinely the most intriguing fangame I'd ever seen at the time, and I grew even more obsessed with it as time went on and the second game came out. All the hard work and careful consideration put into both games formed my respect and my desire to become a creator myself, and to this day, I still dearly love the series. I'll still gladly call myself a Flumpty's fan, even if Jon himself has had his fall, and hopefully has moved mentally on to greener pastures at the time of this comment. The third game was something so special to me, signalling the last and greatest venture for my favourite FNAF standing. I hope other people appreciate what it is too. The greatest yolk of all.
Just as a headsup before you cover Five Night's at Warios, I just want you to know that the game does something that hasn't been done by any other game: Each entry into the series has things you can do that affect other entries in a fourth-wall breaking sort of way, so expect a LOT of jumping from one game to another and a MASSIVE time-sink in order to see everything and get the bigger picture of the story.
Something funny about Onaf 3, since time gets reversed back to 12 am its implied that each and every game takes place in a time loop, which is why even with multiple nights in one game its still just 1 technically And with the new hard mode in the first game, in total there are 7 nights, so there was indeed a week at flumpty’s
Wow! I've always love the games and the art style in them, but I never dove into what went on behind them, and honestly, seeing this made me love them even more. I'm always a sucker for games created as a tribute, and even the dropping of One Week at Flumpty's resonates with me, as I've recently come out of my shell of trying only to do what pleases people, so I know just how hard it can be, and it feels good to see people able to drop things that damage them like that. These games were truly amazing! :)
Flumpty's was always perfect in my mind. The song "The end" actually made me cry. It somewhat made me think of a "I've been with you long enough, you must continue on without me." Or a "I've taught you all you can know."
flumpty's is somhow even funnier when genuine horror elements are incorporated, i guess because of how they're juxtaposed with the memes and goofies also, i don't much care for jon after hearing about what he did, but i support him getting the help he needs which he's stated that he is doing.
I know what Jonochrome did is shitty, but at some point his creativity of Flumpty inspires me. To be honest, I never played any of those games, but after watching the video I learned how creativity can be used to its full potential.

There are a lot fewer of THEM than there are of the good ones- its just the obnoxious ones who tend to make a name for themselves while the rest who make an effort disappear in the background. @@wolfsongrising Society gets extremely touchy when it comes to the subject of kids. It stains you permanently to be outed as anything close to a pedophile. This is for very good reasons, as the children are more important than the offenders. People aren't willing to take chances, and potentially allow them to hurt another child, so eternal condemnation is almost always the response. In some cases though, this response is given too early, and before all the facts are established. Which, while awful, is still reasonable considering what's at stake if the allegations are true. On the flip side, there are people who ignore it, and make excuses for it, which inevitably results in people being even less willing to accept the idea said allegations might have been wrong, or overblown. Again though, I think it's much better for people to take it that seriously, as it really is that serious. You can't undo that kind of trauma on a kid, it will always follow them.
I've always believed One Night at Flumpty's was probably the best FNAF fangame, simply because it was so refined that it was practically strong enough to be considered separate from FNAF. Glad to continue to see people who agree!
It's a shame what the creator did, but considering the games are free there's really no reason to not play them because of that. Glad he is getting help though. EDIT: It's especially fair to separate art from artist here since the creator is doing that too. He hates the series, so it's basically not his series anymore. He's not involved and it's a free to play series.
I recently watched another drawn fnaf fan game called “five nights at peashooters” and it’s nice to know that game was HEAVILY inspired by five nights at flumptys from the drawn art style, to the exposure meter and I’d recommend checking it out :)
I dont know if anybody else has mentioned it, but when you flash Grunkfuss in ONAF 3 he starts off with his normal eyes and his head normal (as in hes seeing you upside down.) but the moment the flash registers in his brain, his head does a 180* rotation (as in rotating on the opposite axis it normally does) and his eyes go wide open as if to say "Did you not read the fucking sign, you little shit?" and the fact you see his eyes in the darkness shortly before getting jumpscared gives you enough time to register that you done fucked up before getting your head bitten off by a demon clown.
This is a literary masterpiece. The way it was phrased feels like a poem... I like this comment. It feels natural, with the username being "Airplanemaniacgaming7877" being a finishing touch.
flumpty night to me is like; a complete masterclass in tone - its creepy; its crazy; hectic and as it begins with turning back time and the characters all dead and more of the carton showing up with new mechanics and more rooms appear and rooms swap and the ui starts going crazy and the music starts up and the game is just throwing absolutely everything at you with the crazy faces and camera flipping and switching and just checking absolutely everything as fast as possible; it just all comes togehter so insanely well to make something that exudes pure chaos and i think its like; sort of beautiful how well it all comes together i never even watched the first two flumpty games until i heard onaf 3 came out and watching onaf 3 for the first time was like an insane discovery for me for how insanely good like every aspect of it looked and sounded
ONAF 2 definitely stands out to me as the best fnaf type game exactly because Chrome managed to do the two things that usually bugged me as you explained well - the enemies feeling samey and the cameras not mattering that much. Definitely think it's one of the most unique games in that genre. Same with the third one.
I don't know if anyone else noticed, but at 36:15 the clock is missing the 6 roman numeral, meaning Flumpty just deleted the sixth hour of the day entirely. This not only invalidates the entire challenge of the night, but also means you can never win, because you can never reach 6 am
I whole heartedly agree with your claims. Flumpty's was always my favorite of the fanverse series, and it sucked what had happened because now the entire series was tainted. I personally went through about a 6 month recovery period where I distanced myself from the Flumpty's series due what felt like a moral obligation, but found myself missing it near the end of that period. Since then, I've tried to make it a point that people should still be allowed to enjoy the series without others assuming this meant they supported the horrible actions, because obviously that's not true. I then made two more videos on the series. A compilation of my let's plays on the series re-edited to remove mentions of the controversial artist, and an art project I worked on with a friend where I incorporated Flumpty's crew into Special Delivery which I had released on the third game's birthday.
man, it's funny how when he realized he didn't want to make one week at flumpty's, in knowing that it could decrease his mental health, he just pulled a straight up "Oh no, anyway."
I love the narrative in your videos, the arrangement and the pacing. Almost Scruffy vibes, which is really strong. The idea to scroll back the ending of the night because of flumpty is so fucking awesome. The sheer terror of seeing the hours you just played fly away is such a nice mechanic. Damn.
I'm so glad this video exists, ONAf has always been my #1 fangame and it's heartwarming to see the dedicated fanbase that it has. The Riddle School series was def one of my favorite flash sagas as a kid, even though I couldn't beat them normally without walktroughs haha. Regardless of his actions, Jonochrome is an incredibly talented and inspirational fellow, and I seriosly hope he is doing well today in whatever new path he has taken in his life.
6:21 Wait... in the bathroom camera the beaver has normal feet but in the hall camera run animation he has knives? Apparently he can switch to real feet and knives
i never knew Jonochrome made my childhood game "riddle school" and made my 2nd childhood game "One night at flumpty's" it sucks hes accused of horrible actions as he's the main inspiration of most of my indie games nowadays (not my #1 inspiration but hes the inspiration that got me into making games)
One thing I find interesting is that when you start Flumpty Night and look at the characters Flumpty killed, it looks like Blam is crying. I mean, it makes sense. He's been there since the beginning, but he was attacked simply because he wasn't useful anymore
I was thinking that you forgot the secret ending for beating hard boiled mode, but at the end it was a perfect reference as a closure to the video and a eggtastic triology
I love him too, beacuse: 1. When you first meet him he looks cute, harmless and friendly. 2. He can change his body like: Having more eyes, stretching his cute little face, switching from binocular vision to monocular vision, changing the structure of his teeth, making a scary face. I think he never takes off his birthday hat, beacuse when he does it, he will die. Even taking the hat back, he will be still dead. (When he is killed, his hat isn't on his hat) and being immortal, until you destroy his hat. I'm sad when he's killed from Flumpty, beacuse he failed. He is Flumpty's first killed "friend". He is a gentleman. Blam was a human. He is an innocent creature. He is doing this to protect his life. But we are too good. I cried, when he died. Now he's in a better place...

I hope Jonochrome is getting the therapy and rehab he needs considering that he owned up to his actions I wouldn't mind that after 6 or 7 more years of him being absent, he would come back Like I would give him ONLY 1 chance of accepting him making a comeback (if he reoffended then I wouldn't give a chance) I really did like Jhon's stuff, not just the Onaf related content, he made some hilarious stuff like his April Fools Content, Riddle School, Can't Food and some pretty solid video essays like "Originality Is Overrated" so seeing him turning out to have groomed someone for six years saddened and angered me but I still have some kind respect for him because again, he did own up to his actions and admit that he was in the wrong
is and has been for a while, actually - something a lot of people missed, apparently. Owned up, has apparently been actively seeking help, and did not try to excuse or justify it unlike certain other unfortunate folks. I personally hope if he does try to come back people will be willing to see and recognize the effort to improve he seems to have made, because he actually responded to this situation like a decent person realizing they ducked up bad and trying to make amends.

The way flumpty nights was put together was incredible! Flumpty can control time, space, and reality but they really don’t show much of that in the 1st and second game. But it’s so much more seriously taken in ONAF flumpty night and he is so much scarier and more threatening than he ever was before.

I think what does it for me is how every enemy has both _clear_ and _distinct_ characteristics. The problem the FNAF games tend to have is that either the enemies' behavior is too vague (FNAF 3 is the biggest offender in this regard), or too many behave too similarly to one another, resulting in a monotonous challenge (the chief problem with FNAF 2 and FNAF 6 in particular). This isn't the case with ONAF - every enemy moves and attacks with completely unique mechanics, and they're clear enough that the average player can figure out the best way to deal with each one after only a few attempts. It results in a challenge that's still tough to be sure, but more importantly, is also _fun,_ and rarely feels like the player's success is determined by pure chance.
It really is unfortunate seeing what Jonochrome did, because goddamn this game was a good one. The 2-D cartoony visuals were especially creative, and the mechanics were always unique in each installment, even if a lot of them were borrowed from the initial FNaF games it stemmed from. Flumpty 3 especially sold me on how creative it could get. It really is a shame what happened though
Honestly, the controversy is over, and everything is alright. The whole thing was over by the time it was exposed, and it was exposed by an muckraker. What he did was wrong, but the girl forgave him, and does not want people to harass him. They are still friends to this day
I have only one complaint about all three games. That all the Flumpty Clones in 3 share the same jumpscare animation. I really think they each should have had their own.
19:03 Adding to this, Golden Flumpty gives you a lot less time to react to him. On Hard Boiled mode, if you accidentally see the owl in the open vent and Golden Flumpty is there when you lower the cameras, you usually die.

While it can be considered more harmonious and better art to omit as many colors as possible and have as limited of a color palette as possible, this can work just as well by omitting only one or two colors and otherwise having total freedom.
In contrast, limiting the green to only the buttons has the player subconsciously associate it with safety as it's the color of the mechanism keeping you safe and that the color does not exist within the characters or setting the player is to view as dangerous.

Fun fact: jonochrome said during the cancellation of owaf and the beginning of onaf3 that he always wanted for some reason to end flumpty with the main antagonist (da egg) floating into space and basically "ending the joke that lasted for these years", which it's a nice way to end the series, flumpty understanding that the joke is over is something that it's both sad and understandable, because if you keep saying the same joke, it will become stale, and that's not what's flumpty's series is about.
another thing ive seen from the owaf cancelation is that during that video that shadow bonnie theme plays just like onaf 3 hard boiled mode
well he actually did it
Heh. How funny would it be if that just resulted in a new game? Flumpty in Space.

All I need to say is that players need to have all of the games installed at the same time.

dude I rewatch the developer commentaries just about any time I'm feeling down about game development, even those are impeccable
one of my favorite things about onaf 3 is the fact that if you flash your camera while Grunkfus is in the hallway, his eyes can still be seen in the dark and you're given like one or two seconds to realize you screwed up before he attacks. another is that the pictures of each character at the end of the game is actually them right before they're killed by Flumpty between nights

Something funny about Onaf 3, since time gets reversed back to 12 am its implied that each and every game takes place in a time loop, which is why even with multiple nights in one game its still just 1 technically
And with the new hard mode in the first game, in total there are 7 nights, so there was indeed a week at flumpty’s

I think too many people forget that some people actually DO try and CAN grow out of their mistakes. Too quick to make their first judgement their only judgement. I won't lie seeing the ones that don't and refuse too sure can sour a person, but its important to keep perspective. There are a lot fewer of THEM than there are of the good ones- its just the obnoxious ones who tend to make a name for themselves while the rest who make an effort disappear in the background. I wish more people would commend them for trying to make amends, instead of punishing them further for it. Talk about kicking a dead horse.
I think you mean one night at flumptys lol
I dont know if anybody else has mentioned it, but when you flash Grunkfuss in ONAF 3 he starts off with his normal eyes and his head normal (as in hes seeing you upside down.) but the moment the flash registers in his brain, his head does a 180* rotation (as in rotating on the opposite axis it normally does) and his eyes go wide open as if to say "Did you not read the fucking sign, you little shit?" and the fact you see his eyes in the darkness shortly before getting jumpscared gives you enough time to register that you done fucked up before getting your head bitten off by a demon clown.

I've legitimately watched with video at least 10 times, it's so nice to just throw on in the background or if I don't know what I want to watch. Keep up the great content!
The moment you said the creator of Flumpty’s made RIDDLE SCHOOL I knew I was in for something incredible
The way flumpty nights was put together was incredible! Flumpty can control time, space, and reality but they really don’t show much of that in the 1st and second game. But it’s so much more seriously taken in ONAF flumpty night and he is so much scarier and more threatening than he ever was before.
I cant wait for the FNAW video, it holds a stupid sense of nostalgia in my brain and is one of those series where it's so bad, its good
i’ve come back now to do my annual watch of this video. how often is ‘annual’ you may ask? whenever i feel like it, which is often. i love this video so much it’s insane, great work as always. (even though this was posted 6mo ago 😭)
I just realised that Grunkfuss' body is a strawberry
Are we not going to talk about the fact that Jonochrome was receiving actual freaking visions!?!
They are still friends to this day
@@tristanrouse6150 oh wow that is a surprisingly wholesome end
@@tristanrouse6150 Kind of concerning they're still in contact tbh.
@@genericname2747 they’re friends in the sense that they’re on good terms. I don’t think he means that they’re still in contact.
@@callinater6133 ok that's less concerning
Crazy how the second game’s development was basically “it came to me in a dream”
