It’s the first time I use and knowing about the epoxy resin . I follow your video with your friend bouquet and I had my daughter wedding bouquet and decide to do the same . The results is absolutely outstanding !!!!! Clear like Chrystal , I am so proud of myself I had purchase all the ingredient and mold that you use . I sand it all sides few days ago and today I pour the lower layer on all sides , tape and tapped first , when dry I tape the bottom and pour the top and side . It come out just gorgeous !!!!!!! Not even one bubbles !!!!!! Thank you .
Just so you know... florists, good ones, will spray the bouquet ( or certain flowers depending on fragility and dryness) with crowning glory, which is a waxy coating. It’s a preservative for fresh flowers, prevents drying out. That may have been the issue for some of the flowers.
Thank you for this very clear, detailed and informative video. I found it very helpful. My first wedding bouquet is drying 🤞, but I feel more confident now 💕
Not sure if I’ll still Get an answer on this , but how much cups would “one layer” be ? I know you mentioned one layer and then let it set for a day. Would that be about 4 cups ? Let it sit , repeat , etc.
So i want to preserve my friends flowers. If I put her flowers in silica gel and once they're done drying can I set some aside? I want to try to do one mold first to make sure I have the technique down before doing her larger mold. Will it be okay if some of the flowers sit out once they have been dried with silica gel?
Hi you did a magnificent job with your friends wedding flowers!! She is blessed to have as a friend! Q- did you wait a day between cup pours? How long after did each pour did you remove the bubbles? What tool did you use? After the resin was set and you removed it from the mould it looked to me your were trimming the edges. Could you Please explain 🙏 also could you please send details of what you ordered exactly and from which company? Trying to organise my daughters wedding bouquet but will need to practice somewhat on smaller moulds first. Really appreciate you sharing your skill. Thank you from Sydney Australia! 🐨🦘🙏
how do u keep the flowers from reacting to the resin? it looks pretty.when its out the silica samd but once that resin is poured next day it turns brown..help!!!
Is your resin heating up too much? That could be the issue, it might be burning your flowers. Maybe try doing an initial coat of resin or UV resin on the flower and then incase it in your project.
make sure your flowers a dried properly with the silica gel... then use a casting resin... 1-1 ratio or 2-1 ratio ... Pour in stages... dont pour over the flowers.. do it in stages... let the resin just seal whatever layer it is up too... in stages.. till all the flowers are covered with the resin and allowing a thin layer to surpass the last coat.
This was so beautiful! I do have a question with drying out the flowers. I have some roses from my dad's funeral which was 3 weeks ago and they still have their shape and color for the most part. I wanted to try this but not sure if I still need to do the drying process?? What would your advice be here in this case?
3 weeks of drying time is exactly what I try to aim for, as a minimum when I'm wanting to get started on them. It can really vary, though, and I have to use some judgement to make sure that there isn't still too much moisture in the centre.
WOW this is so beautiful! Thank you for the tutorial! You mention that it take a day for each layer to dry. Therefore, did you pause between each layer? If so, how many days did this take you?
You can pour as soon as the resin sets - but since this is slow curing resin it will take a while to set and can depend on lots of factors including room temperature, how much you mixed at one time, etc so there is no correct answer. I would poke a inconspicuous part of it with a popsicle stick or something to test and if it's still liquid then wait until it's more solid.
Beautiful! Can I ask you why you bought too much resins. All of them are the same types or there is 2 parts one part ( 2 containers ) you use for your own bouquet and the other 2 containers you use for your friend bouquet? Please let me know it . Thanks
What a beautiful result 😍 I wish I had friends like you! 😂 Please can you give me some advice? I need to make a patio table top, which needs to be weatherproof because it'll fix to a wall and not be mobile. First I thought of a resin pour but since it has to be about the size of a dining table, that'll cost the earth. Now I'm thinking of getting a cheap laminate worktop, painting it black, covering it with potpourri and then pouring resin on it. My questions are: 1. Will this be weatherproof? I'm in the UK so we don't get a lot of sun but we do get rain. 2. Is the resin going to yellow? 3. Will the potpourri rot? 4. Will the resin make it too heavy to mount on the wall? 5. In your opinion is this the best way to create an affordable table top? Any tips and comments so so appreciated. Thank you 💖
Hi! I'm not sure to be honest.... I know there are some resins that are used for boats and surfboards but not sure how thick of a layer they recommend. All resins yellow over time and can absorb the dye if the potpourri is dyed. I would recommend using a blue or purple tinted resin to avoid yellowing and do a small test swatch to see if you need to seal the organic material. Resin will get really heavy fast so be aware of that. You can always use plastic or clear marbles to use as a cheaper "filler" for the volume of the resin but you might be able to see them through the resin. Good luck!
Thanks for sharing. Trying to do this same process for my wife. I have dried the flowers but was hoping you might be able to share the dimensions of your mold (or a link) & the amount of slow curing resin it took to fill (without too much left over (over ordering)). Also, how did you manage to keep the last few layers from not being rounded out on the top? Did you do anything to level it off perfect like the bottom side would be from the pressure of gravity against the mold? Thanks!!
Yeah good questions. And thats beautiful that are doing this for your wife. So thoughtful. I too would like to try this as a project...but need to know the amount. I noticed she didn't use a heat tool for the bubbles. Or a sander at the end. I'm also intrigued as to how the resin gets behind the foliage as she arranged them in the dry mold then poured. Is it because they float slightly so will get underneath okay? Excellent result though 😍
I've seen white flowers dried turn brown or like an "antique" yellow. With white flowers how much does the color change when it's put in resin? Do they continue to change color in the resin? Anyone in the comments who has had white ones for a few years how has it held up?
Do you have to dry the flowers when doing this? I want to do this with my valentines bouquet but I want my roses to be red and not brown and dried up? How would I do this
May I ask if it has yellowed at all? I'm about to cast dried flowers that were blooming on the day that my first grandchild was born and I am so unsure which resin to use. Please, please get back to me hun, many thanks ❤
So beautiful! Did you not have to seal the flowers before casting them? Everything I’ve read says seal them first but I didn’t know if using the eco friendly resin you did made that step obsolete. Thanks so much!
So did you mix all the resin at once and in what kind of container did you use to mix it? did you wait a day in between pouring each layer? How long did it take to fill the mold? How long do you have to leave the resin to cure?
You mention pouring in layers and waiting to prevent intense exothermic reactions. How long do you wait between layers to pour a new one and how many cups is one layer? In the video, it sounds like you mixed all the resin up at once but if that were the case you would need to pour layers relatively quickly I’d assume. Lastly, if you let one layer sit a day and then pour another layer, will you see the layers in the finished product?
So something happened and my wedding flower bouquet literally got rotten But then found one flower in the freezer (my little sister put it there) it’s been 5 months but it still looks good and had not changed colors so much yet but I really wanted to find a way to preserve it, is it too late? Can I still use resin even tho it’s been in the freezer for so long I’m afraid I’ll ruin it since it’s the last piece I have 😭🥺
Can you leave the flowers in the silica for longer than a few days? Was planning on putting them in before my honeymoon and then doing the resin after we get back two weeks later....
Hi! The final product went to my friend who commissioned me for it so I’m too sure how she is displaying it. you can find the video where I explain my resin choice here: th-cam.com/video/5Oyv32KdAlI/w-d-xo.html
Please tell me how you got the white roses to NOT turn transparent. I bought the exact same epoxy. Made sure they were dry and they had large parts of the rose lose all the color and you could see right through them. What am I doing wrong? Please help! Keep up the great work!
I think the thinner the flowers, the worse they do? In all the videos I've watched, it looks like hydrangea petals never do well. Roses should so I'd assume its burning from the resin heat like streamer said

How long does it take to set? How do you pour in the mixture? do have to do the pouring day by day until the whole flowers are covered?
What a lovely present to give to the happy couple.
Wow! This came out so good. Super clear and rarely any bubbles. The process looks so tiring. You are very patient.

All that money and time u spent and she was just like…”oh that’s cool”. Wow. It looks great! Really good job
Incredible job, you’re super patient. I bet she loved it

How did it go?

I think any resin will yellow some extent. One way to combat it for a while is to add a tiny bit of clear blue dye to preemptively color correct!
@@Squidlicks Thank you so much for the advice 🥰

Yes. 1000 times, yes.
gorgeous!
thank you! i got the same mold and didnt knw how to do it to my engagement flowers
how much total would you say this project cost?
Would a food dehydrator work ?
I think it would really deform the flowers. The benefit of the silica is it keeps the petals in place as they dry so the flowers hold their shape!

I saw from another youtuber that leaving them in too long can over dry them and they can fall apart!
Did you let each layer dry completely before moving to the next?
Yes hun. Let the layers dry before pouring next layer.
Wow
Does that epoxy yellow over time?
Not sure but a good way to make sure your epoxy is yellow-proof is if it has a blue tint in it - this will counter-act the yellow.
did you get a stand to hold it after? amd also what's the brand of resin?

Hello! So you would poor a thin layer and then wait 24 hours before pouring the next one?
Yes however thick the resin brand recommends. You can go deeper for slow-curing resins.

Hi! I used a soap slab mold and it worked out perfectly! This is the mold that I used: www.amazon.com/shop/squidlicks?listId=EC1GRSKDUMIH&ref=idea_share_inf
There are a ton on Etsy, but the larger you want, the more expensive.
What resin did you use
Stunningly beautiful 😍 ❤ 💖
I'm curious if the flowers come out dry enough? I'm afraid over time if not they will start to mold or discolor.
Yes! If you use the silica gel or air dry you can actually feel that the flowers are dry because they will feel like paper.
How long did you let each layer set before pouring the next layer . Did you leave it over night or just poured them with minutes in between????
It was about a day until the last layer was solidified.
Awesome video! Answered so many important questions and it was so helpful to see your process! I did have a question, you mentioned softening the edges….how exactly did you achieve that? Do you use a small metal file?
soft grit sandpaper buffer of some sort. For small pieces i use the block nail buffers/files
Love your video! I would like to try resin and I’ve heard it can be harmful to your health. Is there any insight you could give me on how you use resin safety , or what I should do to be safe when I try it? Thank you!
Do I necessarily need to dry the flowers before? I like it when they look fresh, I’m going to be married soon and I want to do this HELP!
Definitely dry your flowers before putting them in resin or they will go mouldy and lose their colour. Resin doesn’t work well with moisture
So I have been holding on to my wedding bouquet and it’s been almost a year. (Not knowing what to do with them but not wanting to throw them away.) Is it too late to preserve them in resin?
No not at all! In fact by now you know that they are super dry and very ready for resin.
What do you bake your silica in? ( the sand part )
And at what temperature
This is so lovely, could this be done with a casting resin and where do you buy the silicon mold from? Thank you for sharing 👍
Yes I use slow curing resin, you can find a similar resin here: amzn.to/3LJK4Oe

So I tried this before and my flowers turned muddy but I did not use silica to dry out I’m guessing that was the main reason? Thanks!
More than likely. You must dry most flowers first. Flowers hold a lot of moisture and that water will be encapsulated in your resin and it will not cure properly and eventually they kind of rot inside the resin.

HI. Excellent video. Did you wait a day before pouring each layer?
How much resin did you use in all what size should i buy and you used the slow resin right not the fast 1 gallon one?
Correct! The slow resin will ensure that the resin does not overheat. I used the 3 quart kit from Entropy Resin and it filled it just below the top.
I’m about to do this for my friend as well. (First time) I’m wondering why you bought two different Resins? Also how deep did you pour each layer?
