as someone with different beliefs than most people(not atheist, my beliefs are just confusing to most people) in a christian family that would probably disown me if i told them, mothwing is one of my favorite cats. and this line just really cemented that.
It just doesn’t make sense that some characters are everybody’s favorite while some are just hated. Mothwing is a good character, she doesn’t deserve to be called stupid

Mothwing is the proof that people don't need to be religious to have morals. That's why it's so important to have a character like her in a universe where almost everyone else is religious. I like to imagine that Mothwing does know that StarClan exists, but still refuses to have contact with them because she knows that she can be a perfectly good cat without them.
Mothwing definetily deserves more recognition. She's one of the very few cats who don't believe in Starclan. But are just as wise and respectful as the other warriors are.

And I know she doesn't know this, but Pinestar lives in kittypet StarClan but is allowed to visit regular StarClan apparently so I'm sure she and Sasha will see each other either way. Also Jayfeather had a period in which he was a bit rebellion against StarClan but still believe in its exists. I don't know. For me, Mothwing's thin denial becomes annoying at times. It's fine if she doesn't want to listen to StarClan and think for herself, but at least have her develop to the point where she knows they exist.
When he came into the Clans, he didn’t believe in Starclan, and a somewhat-crazy Bluestar simply encouraged Cloudtail’s lack of belief due to Bluestar’s own disconnection from Starclan at the time. Firestar came into the Clans when Bluestar was still fully sane. Cloudtail’s beliefs are completely logical if your explore the first six books. Firestar believing in Starclan is also logical- all because of when Cloudtail and Firestar joined and how old both cats were when they joined.
I actually believe tu at mothwing said that she can no longer deny that starclan exists but she doesn’t think that it is as powerful or needed as cats make it out to be. So she does believe in starclan but doesn’t beleive about the influence starclan has on living cats.
This is not a cry for attention. I don't love him in a romantic way, just he is a great TH-camR. You can dislike the comment if you disagree, but I do not love him in that way.

Few other things to add: It has been confirmed that if Cloudtail dies, someone will drag him into Starclan. If Leafpool dies before Mothwing, you can bet that she'll do it. In the BnN extra chapters of River of fire, Willowshine asks Mothwing why doesn't she believe in Starclan, to which Mothwing replies that she does realize that there is something, but she still isn't into Starclan. She says that she doesn't understand why is there so much suffering if Starclan wants them to be happy. Willowshine says that maybe it's because they are trying to teach the cats, to which Mothwing replies that it's a nice thought. This scene proves the point of this video, though it has a slight hint that Mothwing might be converting, which.... I hope that they don't do that.

I was kind of disappointed when i learned about Mothwing not believing in Starclan at first, because of my beliefs, i always actually didn't really have a strong connection with people who didn't believe the same things as me, because of other people who had the same beliefs, they said to always try to show them they're wrong, and while it would be nice to change them, its better to accept them for who they are, and reading about Mothwing really made me change, and i realized that with my belief, its actually stupid and bad to judge someone for not having the same beliefs
Actually, since Sasha was part of riverclan once, so even if she didn't care for any part of the clan, she would be part of the rogue place wherever they go when they die, and starclan. Like Pinestar. He was clan leader, then a kittypet. But gave bluestar a life.
Reminds me of an OC of mine, Salmonear/Hareear. He's for Warrior Cats: Ultimate Edition, so there's always one dominant Clan that takes up about half the server, while the others are near nonexistent. I use that in his backstory, where he believes StarClan has a vendetta against him and will "kill him just like they did his old Clan when they get a chance". It's interesting to see how the leader apprentices him (he starts as 6-moon-old Harekit/Salmonkit). Often, he's treated like a normal warrior apprentice, but there were a few times where he was given the medicine cat as his mentor. It goes one of two ways: 1. He snaps at the medicine cat about "not wanting to work with murderers", and the medicine cat tells the leader to make him a warrior apprentice as to not tick him off so hard he just snaps completely, or 2. He snaps at the medicine cat about "not wanting to work with murderers", and the medicine cat literally disputes his entire backstory as just an unlucky coincidence that most of his whole Clan died in one greencough outbreak. Salmonpaw snaps completely and tries all in his power to get exiled. If he's outside the Clans, he's out of StarClan's reach: and he wants the Clan to know his opinion on their beliefs. The first is more common, but it says something.
I think the main reason I like Mothwing so much is because I used to be religious, but now I'm atheist, so I can relate. Difference is, I'm not surrounded by religious people who would probably have my head or call me stupid and ignorant if they knew I was atheist. But I actually believe there is someone up there waiting to take us to a place where we can rest our souls for eternity after death, I just don't know who. I also believe that StarClan exists. It's in the books. You're more trustworthy if you have someone close to you as a medicine cat. That means that it seems that you have a close connection to Starclan and thus a better choice as deputy.
Mothwing has lost her belief in Starclan because she wanted to become a medcince Cat to be with starclan, she though Starclan chose her but Hawkfrost, or hawk paw faked the omen. So she thought Starclan is debuted. Like you said. I thought this a log time I’m glad someone else know this.

I recently started reading dawn of the clans (spoilers btw fair warning) and I got to the first battle and it was so similar to the great battle. With all the fallen cats rising up and going with the cats who were already dead and how all cats could see them and speak with them. What was sad tho was how they said they never wanted that to happen again but after so many generations that battle basically happened again just more dramatically and between the dead and living

It is interesting that both TigerStar's daughters are very strong in character whereas his sons are more iffy. Even BrambleClaw trains with him in the Dark forest for a while. TawnyPelt flat told him no.

personally, i absolutely ADORE mothwing. i can relate to her of not believing in a popular and supported belief even though you are surrounded by people who grew up with religion, especially in your family. even though she doesnt believe in starclan, it doesnt affect her intelligence, skills a a medicine cat, and it isnt annoying. in my most likely overused words, you do not need religion or spiritual beliefs to have morals and/or purpose.
p.s i never even KNEW mothwing was called stupid, i guess i understand her better at my age because i personally know where her paws are.

Well, Mothwing might she her mother again it really depends I mean Leafdapple of SkyClan saw her mother that had already died in her leadership ceremony and the clan had just restarted so her mother would have likely never heard of the clans in the first place.

I wonder why Hawkfrost made Mothwing a medicine cat in the first place. Was it so that if she didn’t believe in StarClan she wouldn’t be able to get signs from StarClan to help her clan?
It's in the books. You're more trustworthy if you have someone close to you as a medicine cat. That means that it seems that you have a close connection to Starclan and thus a better choice as deputy.

I recently started reading dawn of the clans (spoilers btw fair warning) and I got to the first battle and it was so similar to the great battle. With all the fallen cats rising up and going with the cats who were already dead and how all cats could see them and speak with them. What was sad tho was how they said they never wanted that to happen again but after so many generations that battle basically happened again just more dramatically and between the dead and living
