Tornado Damage Assessment

  • The sun comes up and shows what has gone down. At least 3 farms were damaged on March 28, 2020 in the EF-1 Tornado confirmed by The National Weather Service. Thankfully, no one was hurt in the storm, with the exception of some livestock. The storm tracked almost 7 miles across mostly rural countryside, right down the middle of the proposed Grant County Solar Energy Center.

    Winter Schedule
Our schedule may vary, but expect a new video every Wednesday and Saturday at 11AM Central!
How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a TH-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

That was my thought too. So many people are so selfish in their day to day lived anymore but to see a community come together like they did here brings joy and restores faith in one another.

The wonderful thing about rural America is that most if not all of those people doing the cleanup volunteered, many of them just showed up to help. That's why I'll never live anywhere but a flyover state. God bless you all.

Brother...love watching you and Hannah...in ‘59 when I was 11 yrs lived had bad tornado...took down all barns around house...the worst damage in one of the barns was it broke off steering wheel of my ‘42 John Deere D model that pulled 3bottom 14 in plow....our black angus herd was all over the place...took us over a year to clean up...rebuild..I was 11 yrs old and was a traumatic experience...I now just cash rent my 400 acre farm but still involved with wild food plots to nourish my deer and 200 bird flock of wild turkeys..when I saw this my heart and soul went out to the people with damage..my family been on this farm in KY now 230 yrs...keep up the hard work...there is no better...will be watching your success and rejoicing that our country still has fine young people like you to carry on in the best occupation that exists. Be safe, love you all!

What you said shows the character of the people that live around you. While one would presume that the one family would have much higher priorities they saw to it that the debris on your farm and presumably others got cleaned up. It's good to see a community pull together in a time of need.

I was working on a small dairy when I was young. A tornado passed by the barn right after we started milking. I opened the door and let all the cows into the milking stable. There was 20 cows in the stanchions and 25 more in the walk ways. We were lucky.

I am a farmer in the Texas panhandle and the wildfires in 2017 burned down our entire property a flood of support came in from all over the country, we never would have recovered if it had not of been for everyones generosity, those of us in agriculture need to look out for each other

It is wonderful to see your community pull together like this in support of your relatives and neighbors. So often in city life, we barely know the people who live less than 20 yards from our front doors. People have an outstanding record of digging deep when things happen to get each other back on their feet. In rural America, where life is supposedly insulated, backward, and solitary, the sense of community is just as strong, if not stronger than other places. Helping out just comes naturally because it's what you do practically every day. The damage from this storm was severe, but even a few days later, it is being cleaned up. Buildings will be replaced, the equipment can be fixed, but the livelihood of these people will take a good bit longer to mend. Thank goodness no one was injured! Thank you for posting this footage.

You always think it will never be you, until it is you. I got hit by one in summer 2018. House took a little damage but was still standing and livable. But my garage that was 12’ from the house was destroyed and an antique vehicle, my pride and joy at the time, in my garage had some damage. Quite minor considering the fact the garage was just literally gone. My pregnant wife was luckily at work. I was home but left before it hit because I knew it was coming. I watched it unfold from about 1/4-1/2 mile away.
Its hard to put into words how it feels seeing something you worked that hard for be that damaged/destroyed by something out of your control.
But the good news is, everything can be rebuilt. We had family, neighbors and even strangers help us those first few days. Ive never asked for anything from anybody, and probably wouldnt have either. I didnt expect help from anyone, but man did I appreciate it when they showed up. It happened on a friday. That sunday morning, a local church picked my house to be the one they would help clean up instead of their having their normal church service. I didnt know they were coming until they pulled in. Theres no way my wife and I could ever thank them enough, or anyone else enough for what they did for us.
I can report that within a few days the mess was cleaned up and within a year, my house was repaired and the garage rebuilt.
Like Mr. Roger’s mother said, look for the helpers, there are always people helping.
It may not seem like it now, but a year or so from now, itll be just a memory.

Where I'm at in KS, we see storms coming through, we start watching for tornado's, we get them almost daily like OK does. Really not much one can do. Only good thing from this is, no one got hurt. I've lived through 2, seen many, most dangerous ones are, "sidewinders" and "rain wrapped". They can move in any direction quicker than one might think they can. Damage done will be felt for a good number of yrs. Cheers :)

We kinda kept an eye on the storm only because this time of year from west and south, storms dont normally go to well, and phone went off about tornado in iowa, decent day and it started to get really humid around 8 or so. And im in south central wi so it sucked a lot of warm moist air to feed it. We stayed in t shirts until about 11 or so.
