  • Major Storm Damage 5-12-22 If the over abundance of rain wasn't bad enough this wind storm/tornado damage has got us stressed out! Thankfully we're all safe and everything on the farm can be replaced. We lost our cold storage shed and at least 1 grain bin. Mostly all of the equipment stored in the shed was also damaged.

Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

Zach, when you see a news report of tornado damage, although your heart still goes out to the people involved, you feel a certain detachment. Watching this video made me feel like a catastrophe happened to a family member, even though we've never met. I know it must've been difficult to film all of the devastation when all you probably wanted to do is wish it all away. You have always said that your purpose in having this TH-cam channel is to share all aspects of farm life with non-farmers so that we can see what it's really like. Part of that is sharing the heartbreak along with the joy. Thank you and God bless you.

A late summer hail storm (golf ball sized hail, which was amazing as a kid) destroyed all the crops. We had insurance, but it put us behind. My grandpa and dad called it quits a few years later because of many compounding issues, but those 15 minutes of hail put us in a place where we just couldn't recover. So very Sad to see.... I am not a farmer but I grew up and worked on my Dads farm til 1965 when I joined the Air Force.
My heart goes out to you and your family and I am SO glad you are all safe!! I've been watching you for several years and it's almost like you are part of the family now....
I wish you and your neighbors and friends all the best. May you continue to persevere....

The most important thing to be thankful for is that everyone (Becky, you, the kids, dogs, and hopefully all the cats) are safe. I'm sorry you are getting setback after setback, but insurance will help ease the pain with lost items. I grew up in tornado alley (midwest) so I understand the damage it causes. Again, really happy everyone is okay :)

We live in the uk near Scotland and in November 2021 we had 135 mph wind and caused devastation and took roofs off the houses and static caravans into the North Sea. Feel for you hope everything is ok and remember metal can be replaced lives can’t. Stay safe

Zach, so sorry about your losses in the storm. Farming can be cruel as you know, from the terrible drought last summer to this excess moisture now. I appreciate your grace and humor on the video. A good example of just taking it as it comes and moving on.

There's a farmer around where I live in SD, he was in his pretty newly built shop. Concrete walls. As he was in there, that same storm came through and blew off the roof and slid his quadtrac with him underneath hanging on for dear life.

Absolutely heartbreaking stuff! When you went live afterwards and gave all the profits to your charity speaks volumes of what a first class family farm you have! Your right insurance will cover the losses and glad your family and you are ok! Your farm will recover and it will take time but when it’s all said and done your farm will all be better and stronger than it was before the storm!

With all the damage you guys took, the best part is you and your family are uninjured and were safe from that storm. Everything else can be replaced/ repaired.
I was in Valley City, ND that day. Was supposed to leave the Loves truck stop about 6:30 that evening. Looked at the weather apps I have and decided to sit another two hours and am glad I did. There were two tractor trailers that were rolled into the median within 20 miles of each other. I would have also been rolled as I was empty. We've been getting some violent winds and storms this year. You all stay safe, I know some hard work is about to happen to clean up.

Its been terrible. Just up to a week ago there were places that still had snow in the northern part of the state. Now we have so much water in the ground its not even soaking in. Its going to be a very late planting season for us. Luckily I missed out on the really bad storms last week so no damage but everything is so wet we still cant do anything. We will be cutting hay before we are done planting.
