      There was no tornado in this video and there was no funnel cloud he wasn't even in the right part of the storm. Nothing that took place in this video has anything remotely to do with a tornado. Even the color the storm has not one tiny thing to do with a tornado that's all about light refraction on the front edge of the storm and tornadoes are on the back.

    • @Avetho
      @Avetho 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@War1109 The idea of a tornado sounding like a train comes from the age of steam locomotives. It sounds like the whooshing hiss and thrum of good old mighty steam power, sometimes even the whistle, but most of all the sound of the wheels grinding as they roll under the heavy weight of hundreds of tons of steel that is also pushing a huge air mass out of the way on the flat front of the train, which coincidentally is true for modern locomotives as well (keep in mind a bullet train or aerodynamic maglev is not in the same class of train). Imagine millions of locusts buzzing or thousands of cannons cooking off in sequence, a dull but loud and constant roar of power and noise and sheer atmospheric majesty.

And then for a minute it was just deathly silent, then it sounded like I was laying on the train tracks as a train went by. It was deafeningly loud and grass and leaves and tree branches were flying all over the place. Probably the scariest experience of my life.

      Exactly what I was going to say... propane is heavier than air as well, so if there was a leak caused by the storm and debris blocked the exit so you were stuck down there, yall could easily asphyxiate and die due to air displacement... even if it didn't explode or catch fire. More than a few guys passed out or even died due to freon, which is also heavier than air, sinking to the floor of the shop and filling up the grease pit, displacing all the air and gassing whoever was working down in it at the time... (back in the old days when you could vent freon to the air...
      Not exactly like you can pick the thing up and move it, but I'd think twice about sheltering in there... I think you'd be better off in your basement of the house...
      Just throwing that you for yall to think about... Better to think about it before than have regrets afterwards...
      Later! OL J R :)

    I was in the 1967 tornado that hit Belvidere Illinois. A lot of people died. After the storm, what I remember most was huge oak trees sticking out root first from the 3rd and 4th stories of the hospital windows, a horse up in a tree impaled by lumber, dead cattle and debris everywhere, and the sirens. Lucky for us we just lost part of our roof and the car (didn't have a garage). Now THAT was scary!

    One of my favorite storm videos, probably. Feels pretty familiar as a Midwesterner, also a nice clear shot of the green sky approaching. My mom was super close to the 11/17/13 tornado in Kokomo, IN and said it sounded like a really deep roll of thunder that never stopped. In 2016 I was at her new place out in the country and one passed probably a mile in front of her house... there was just this giant group of black clouds rotating and it missed my old hometown by a few miles. It was rain-wrapped so the funnel wasn't very visible, but that giant vortex up in the sky was telling and scary enough.
    Anyway, glad it didn't hit you guys too badly (and I'm glad the kitty is okay!)

    That sound is the scariest sound I’ve ever heard. Even thought I live in Louisiana, believe it or not, I have been in a couple of tornados and wind storms before. One came up out of nowhere in the middle of the night. It was just quiet as could be. And my mom rushed to my room and told me get up there is a tornado right on top of the house. It wasn’t directly on top of us but it was in the pine plantation behind my house. We just got a little bit of wind off of it compared to what the people on the other side of the plantation. It destroyed the trees and their houses. I will never forget that noise.

    We got that supercell in Quebec in Napierville and St-Jean-sur-Richelieu. But you guys got the worst of it but it was still powerful when it got here! That tornado started 45miles away from you guys and continued on up to where I live!

      Jan Kotze you could survive a tornado in a field by laying down on the ground because the winds just fade when they hit the ground so i think its save

      @grubbykid7410 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Panda #44 there is a gap between the ground and the tornado, yes. But you must be stupid to think you're safe from a tornado by just ducking under it lmao. Never heard anything more ridiculous

      Grubby Kid I don’t think that i straight up pulled that from a book about natural disasters that i read and ofcourse it would be really stupid due to ruble but it may safe some one who is driving in the middle of nowhere and has the thing coming for him seeing a car is one of the most dangerous

    Being from New Hampshire where tornados are rare but almost every house has a cellarI don't understand. Why doesn't every house out there have a cellar for a storm shelter instead of having 1 that you have to run to out in the yard? just seems to me like having it inside the house would make it much easier and safer.

    First Tornado in my state, I was maybe younger than 8. And that sound will never leave me. We don’t have basements or cellars or even sirens in the Southeast (or at least my state in the SE). The houses down where I live are built for Sever Thunderstorms to Hurricanes...that is if the house is up to date.

    Another little tip, Down here we never park our Trucks inside. To much of a chance that the building will come down on them. We park our trucks out in our pasture where there are no trees. No damage so far after 15 Hurricanes.

    The roaring sound is very low level wind shear. The storm front is composed of cool air, so as it advances foward it is pressed down into the ground as the warm air mass climbs over it. This low level wind shear is what causes funnel clouds. The green color is caused by hail. The ice particles reflect energy with the wavelength that happens to be what our eyes perceive as green light, so it looks green to us.

    I'm glad it missed you, and I'm glad you didn't wait to get to your shelter. We have a very similar shelter at our house, but we can lock the door down from the inside and we have a beefy door at the bottom of the stairs that opens to the inside and can be double bolted shut { top and bottom } to seal the main area. Might be a couple things to consider adding to yours someday if you don't already have it.

    When I was about 13 my mom and I went to Nebraska from Florida to visit my brother and his family. On his birthday, July 5th, my mom, brother and his wife went to a lake and left me in a suburb of Lincoln to look after the little girls. The sky got very dark and the warning sirens went off! I herded the little girls into the cellar, and they were crying and screaming their heads off. A most unpleasant experience! I visited Xenia, Ohio after their big tornado in 1974, massive destruction. We couldn't find the building our company had built , so there was nothing to inspect. Thirty-two people died there. Half the town was wiped out. The whole rest of the world didn't send them relief, they rebuilt and went on.

    Several years ago, in the middle of the night, we got hit with a tornado that landed about 1/4 mile from our house. I had always heard that a tornado sounds like a freight train as it goes by but never experienced that before that night. The air was sucked out of our house and my open window became like a vacuum trying to suck the air, curtains and blinds out the window opening. It DID sound just like a freight train going by. (Thank God, damage to my town was minimal but one young teen was killed by it about four blocks from my house.) So, the freight train noise is TRUE.

    One thing that I noticed is you may want to put a hyd. jack in the shelter. If a storm threw a bunch of heavy crap on that door, you are trapped. When we went into Joplin after the tornado hit it, we found several people trapped in their shelter. One guy had a long jack and was able to free himself and his family.
    Pretty cheap insurance, a jack, and a large pry bar may make a lot of difference. You may want to put some water down there too. Just a couple of cases will help. We kind of lucked out having a cave on the property. We can keep food and water down there and it stays cool.
    Not trying to be a smartass or anything, it's just something people said they never thought about.
    I have been through 3 tornadoes, and have seen 5, and they are damm scary. The one in Joplin picked up railcars and threw them 1/4 mile. That is the first F-5 damage I've ever seen. You can't imagine the power of these things.
