Mr. Brownlee is without a doubt the most beautiful tenor voice of today. He is the heir of Luciano Pavarotti IMO. I just weep to hear the beauty of his voice. I hope he has a great career and makes many records.
This is the most beautiful voice I have heard since I fell in love with Pavarotti. I'm only a fan but I feel the emotions, the warmth, the perfect legato, the ease of his phrasing, the purity of his notes, the beautiful tone...all perfect to my ears and to my heart. On top of being technically second to none, Brownlee performs this aria with such emotional intensity, it feels genuine. What really stands out for me in this particular performance is the dynamic range and the exquisite phrasing, especially around 4:21-4:45. That having been said, it's really awesome to see so many new recent performances of LB's pop up. Every time I hear this guy, and think that it couldn't get any better, he keeps raising the bar.

I agree completely. If a person feels he has reason to critisize a performance, base it on the flaws of the actual performance, not on the merits of the performance of another artist.
Florez is a phenomenal artist. Brownlee, too, is a phenomenal artist. After hearing them both sing this aria, I must say that I prefer hearing Brownlee sing it. Although Florez sings it beautifully, Brownlee brings the aria to life with his warmer, richer tone. I also love Brownlee's pianissimo singing. It's very touching. What I'd like from Brownee, at this point, is a more ornate cadenza. That standard cadenza could use some extra notes and maybe a trill or two. Let's mix things up. It's 2012!
Lawrence Brownlee has definitely the richer voice than J.D.F. Personally, I think Lawrence performed best for "Una furtiva largrima" than anybody else!!
