Voice Recognition identifies the voice that is speaking (authentication)
What you're talking about is Speech Recognition that extracts the words that are spoken.

I'm watching this with automatically generated subtitles on and Google has really improved their voice recognition since 2 years ago. The voice recognition in 2:33 - 2:40 is bad, but now the subtitles on TH-cam were perfect for that segment at least (haven't checked the entire video). Of course Linus articulates very well. Some other TH-camrs don't, so TH-cam doesn't understand them as well.

I remember spending hours on end trying to IBM Via Voice, and Dragon Naturally Speaking to work back in the 90's for my late uncle who was a quad in a wheel chair, and even after hours of training it with his voice, it would either still get stuff wrong a lot, or pick up background noise making it useless with the Parrot mic. So I'm really glad we have things now like Google Now.

+Techquickie Could you do Chromebooks as fast as possible? I feel like people get some misconceptions of what they are. I'd also love you to do more reviews of them or just suggest which one is your favorite. I just ordered the Acer 11 inch kind of hastily because it was so cheap and you didn't do too many reviews of them. I custom built a desktop with a lot of help from Linus tech tips and felt like I needed a little laptop to help with easy day to day tasks at school like typing papers on the go. Keep up the good work and thanks!

Good overview. Voice recognition very useful for dictation, just don't turn the fan on. Less so in the cockpit due to voice stress. When I switched to Windows 10 I tried both Cortana and voice recognition and found that they didn't really improve things for me and it wasn't worth the privacy tradeoff so I disabled them. On the other hand I have a friend who is profoundly visually impaired who finds it and reading programs essential.
