Thanks for watching! Yup, ROTS Anakin is off the table (thankfully)! Any further updates to him now have a modern definitive base to work with that would necessities minimal new tooling (if any) outside a new non-Sith head and potentially a plastic skirt piece.
Just to chime in on your conversation at 37:14, March Madness is the biggest opportunity for the community to voice what they want in the line and I love that it puts the focus on the top 64 characters, placing them before the collecting community. I look at my own list and know that Theron Nett is mostly there tooling wise, but he's also one I've wanted for years, so how else will Hasbro know that he needs making? Many of my Top25 could be kitbashed with some new parts, but I still want them more than an all new sculpted Smylo Ren.
Hi Chris, want to address your question. The rules for March Madness have been consistent for 5 years and are not going to change now. We do not expect everyone to be tooling experts, but we do expect people to adhere to the rules and spirit of the tournament as closely as possible. The request every year is that people do their best to list ALL NEW figure requests. Thus, very obvious retools like Stormtrooopers, Clones Troopers (with the exception of specific sculpts like a Republic Commando or Galactic Marine, as examples), imperial officers, and yes, X-wing pilots - will not be permitted. Because the vast majority of the tooling already exists, and this does not adhere to the spirit of the tournament. Last Figure Standing has no such requirements, so the place to campaign for Theron Nett is there - not March Madness. You will be wasting a slot on your list asking for a minor retool of brand new tooling that already exists, to be perfectly honest, because obvious retools like that will not be permitted. There are going to be cases where it’s not so clear cut, but in this character’s case, it is. - Tyler
@SWTVC thank you for clarification, looks like it'll be a while before he receives the spotlight. That said, a new Shoretrooper will be on my list for this year, the current sculpt just doesn't have enough mobility. Thanks again for running the poll, it is a highlight of the collecting calendar.
@SWTVC who’s going to do the tooling vetting on the thousands of character entries you will receive? Technically, you will not have the time to do a proper detailed analysis of every submitted character. And how will each submitter prove their individualized cases? I think you should suggest submitters focus on new tooling, but ultimately not make it a requirement as you will lose fidelity with the fan and collector base.
That’s basically how we will do it. Not everyone is a tooling expert (myself included) so while we’d prefer all-new figures, there is a great tooling library being built up lately, which makes this trickier than previous years.
I'm not a tooling expert so I just submit my list and hope for the best. I don't include obvious retools like clones, imperial officers, mandalorians etc but it's too hard to know every piece of tooling and how it could be used.
From my point of view if we put a character debut on our list it will be okey in any case because basically the tooling does not exist. Then if hasbro finds a way to kitbash it’s on them . For an already existing character if a modern version exist (last 4-5 years) we should check if the other attire used can be leveraged on the primal version. Typically à Mandalorian , an imperial officer, à clone trooper… those exist, for the rest I think we can be okey with putting anything we want

If I am understanding correctly had Pellaeon not already been announced I couldn't have nominated him because he uses existing tooling?

The basic gist is: please TRY and focus on new tooling (like, no obvious easy reuses like imperial officers, clones, and Mandos), but we don’t have a hardline stance or expectation of everyone to be tooling experts, ourselves included! The goal is to encourage Hasbro to further expand the tooling library, but at the end of the day, we want y’all to have fun and ask for what you want!
Evan here: which armor are we talking? If it’s the Tartakovsky one from his jousting match with Durge, that’d be a no since they’d basically be able to use the entirety/majority of the new clone sculpt with a new Obi-Wan head and soft goods. If it’s the early seasons (1-3) of The Clone Wars, the answer is a little less clear since they could use the clone trooper lower legs and feet, and maybe upper arms? But the majority of the figure would likely need to be all-new in order to be an acceptable and definitive version.
I’ll chat some more with the guys about it. Personally, I’m an Obi-Wan lover so I’m biased in wanting to keep him in, but trying to be a little more dispassionate about it, the use of existing biceps, lower legs, and feet MAY disqualify him… we’ll see! :)
