I’m glad you’re trying fermenting your chickens feed. I recently found out and excuse me if I had mention this to you before is that chickens only need a 1-cup of feed per day. 50lb bag is close to 200 cups- 6-chickens equals would equal 33-days if my math is right. You can also supplement with rice, oatmeal to stretch even more -fermenting stretches even further. Plant a Peach Tree or 2- they will bear fruit the first year, only a few but within the 3rd year you will get a nice little harvest-plant around the base -oregano, mints, lavender, chives, dill, nasturtiums, comfrey, marigolds-all help your tree to ward off bad insects, fertilizer, pollinators, as well as all are medicinal, mint is what I use all summer for my water, the herbs I dehydrate for my spices, all are edible/drinks other then comfrey. Chickens benefit greatly from oregano..all are perennial plants in your zone.. HTH. 🙌🏻
@@Fritz0616 yes my girls love oatmeal and corn, kitchen scraps, etc. it’s to the point that when I walk out the door with something in my hands they all run to me because they think I have treats. Haha Stay tubed for my ‘garden’ plans I have been working on. 🤞🏻 Hopefully it will work this year. I am NOT someone that this sort of thing comes easily/naturally to. My thumb is def not green! But, I have been doing a TON of homework and research and I think I am ready to try using what I have learned and see what happens. 😬 But I have to try…
@@Homemade_with_love ~Awe..I love chickens..lol..I lost my puppy a few years ago (he was 13 yrs old) I have had chickens for 16 yrs. My very first batch of 6-baby chicks bought from Tractor Supply was raised in the house for their first 3-weeks of life-they were held constantly so when they were out outside in their new home I was so worried..lol..the next week was for them to adjust to their new home and their chicken run which was pretty good size- after the week was over we let them out of the coop to experience fresh grass, opened a whole new world to them but-they were so use to me they followed me (have a good size lawn) and talked away-if I sat on the deck steps they came and sat on our laps..oh how I loved them..when we got out puppy (we call all dogs puppies) he wasn’t havent it so any baby chicks we got after we got him weren’t tame. Now that my beloved puppy has passed I asked my hubby if we could get another batch of babies (I have 2-coops and 1-is empty) he gave me the ok so now I will have tame chickens again ..I spend a lot of time outside in the spring and summer since I’m a gardener. I can’t wait as there is nothing like tame chickens. Gardening is our future..you will do fine I’m sure. Earthboxes is something that you might want to check into-they are expensive but once you purchase them you have them for life. Just know that chickens will mess up a garden bed in minutes. I had put a fenced around my raised beds..planting raspberry and blackberry bushes gives back in so many ways in food and medicine but chickens love to hide in them, they feel safe and protected-we have hawks and lots of wild life that will take out chickens pretty quickly. I see your backyard is fenced in - hawks would be your predator.
Lesleigh, I love watching you, Bayleigh and Colson going grocery shopping. They are growing up so fast. Love you all and Jason too!!!
