    You could always save old blankets and make covers for the windows as well. Also, small tents will help ypu stay warm inside as well if the power goes out. They will hold heat in for you to stay warm. Everyone prepares differently and at least youre doing what you can. Good job Mama. 😊

      I have heard of the tent indoors. I’m not opposed to doing that. But ours is set up in the garage as a chicken hospital in case we have a sickness or injury and need somewhere to quarantine somebody. Or in this case should they get too cold out there I can at least move them to the garage for a day or two.

    I’m confused about why you need to drip your faucets? Do you not have central heating ? I live in Upstate NY, way upstate. It’s been 9- 15 degrees without windchill here but we never have to do that. Also, your gas fireplace should not smell at all something is wrong if it does.

    • @Homemade_with_love
      @Homemade_with_love 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We do have central heating. However, we have known pipes to burst even with outdoor faucets covered. So we take every precaution. As annoying as a dripping faucet is, I just tell myself it is a temporary minor thing instead of a major headache and expense of a burst pipe. 😬

    It’s always good to be prepared at all times. I live in the cold North East and our #1 thing is to have our generator ready to go. W dare going through what’s called The Grand Solar Minimum which is a cycle our earth goes through every 400 plus years. Which is why our weather is so out of whack all over the world, places that aren’t normally cold or get snow will be more frequent..I learned back in 2012 when we lost power for a week even though we had the generator we had recycled all the dvr movies we had prerecorded- made sure we invested in a DVD player since we had kept at least a 100 DVDs for the kids portable dvd players. I invested in a Lug A Loo so we had a toilet as our generator wasn’t powerful enough to run water to flush toilets -. I had several clean recycled 2-liter bottles and filled them with water to be able to flush the toilet before we bought the lug a loo plus give my chickens water and Fill the sink with water for the dishes -learned to always have disposable plates, bowls, plastic silverware, cups , paper towels, napkins and garbage bags. A big one was having lots of wipes for the bathroom to clean our hands. Invested in a safe indoor propane single burner to cook on..We normally had a heads up if we might lose power so I made a huge pot of soup, cookies, had sandwich meat and bread, chips, drinks made up or cases of drinks. I learned to crochet so that was such a relaxing time. HTH ..

    • @Homemade_with_love
      @Homemade_with_love 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I wish we had a generator. Yes, I made soup for supper tonight and plan get things tomorrow at the store for sandwiches. Plan to make muffins and if time permits maybe a pan of cinnamon rolls or cookies. Now they are saying we should get all snow and no ice. However whatever melts will refreeze on the streets overnight so it could still be treacherous. Being prepared never hurts!
