GSD's are ridiculously active and athletic. I got mine for a running partner, 4 miles is the standard and a 12 mile run was our max. Upside is they are great accountability partners, downside is they do not appreciate stopping due to weather or if I need a week off lol.

Yeah ours current black female GSD Eva can play fetch for hours and hours no joke either. One time I started frisbie with her and 3 hours later she still wanted to play. Never had a dog that could not get wore out or tired like this even my other male german shepherd Luger RIP would eventually get wore out from it. Not this new female puppy Eva we have she wants to work for you. She moves big branches even really big ones that weigh as much as her and piles them in her special corner off yard (she was 10 weeks old when she stated doing that and still does it at 10 months). Maybey cause she is female but she is determined to show us she can work non stop. She is my third GSD. I had a very over protective female one Venus when I was a kid she was very protective of my family and a work horse too. If you take care of them they can live a while too. The male I had just recently Luger had to put him to sleep had canine leukemia. Even then he was 13 and if it wasn't for the cancer would of lived a couple more years.I have 2 other rescues 1 half Lab half GSD Venus (named after my first dog) cause she is very protective of me and wife like my childhood dog was and Sunday the black Lab the couch potatoe who always want to snuggle with you who I cherish also . There something about the GSD breed that always amazes me though

Yup and I miss mine she was funny and loving of her family and I enjoyed taking her out for a good 2 hours every day, her specialty was singing to the ice-cream vans music 😂 it's just a shame she passed away in her sleep at 15 years old but she will always be in my heart.

I just turned 18 a few weeks ago along with getting my first job and ever since our childhood dog died this past October me and my little sister came up with a plan that she'll get a summer job and I'll have my job and we will save up to get another dog. We're going to save up a lot of money and we're going to tell our dad before we start the process of getting the dog but after we're done saving up.
Our other dog was named Daisy and she was a Boston terrier half beagle and when we got her she wasn't really growing because she was already fully grown and I've always liked that Daisy being our first dog wasn't too big like a golden retriever or small like a chihuahua. This time we want to get a dog that will be big (doesn't have to be great dane big) and we want to get it while it's still growing so we can watch that.
I'm thinking of getting a German Shepherd and I want it to be my best friend and take it everywhere also I heard there protective and that's always a plus.

I got a 1 yr old GSD Husky mix. He gets out daily and while he can have 3 young kids petting and hugging him he certainly shows his guarding side when anyone tries walking down the alley behind my home. His obedient nature makes me look good. He listens to commands better than any dog I have yet owned.

I just love your Vids Will! My two girls( a rescue GSDxMastiffx kelpie and a pure bred english Lab ) are now 15 and in great condition but I know the time is coming where i will have to consider which dog to get next. Ive done so much research on so many breeds and have been put off my GSD because everyone is afraid of them.. I dont want a dog that everyone is afraid of. But after watching this vid, Im convinced this is the breed i need. I have had 3 large to giant breed dogs which i have trained 100% off lead to a very high standard, only one a GSD X Rottweiler and he was just the best. Thanks for your knowledge.

First of all, love your videos, just discovered you on TH-cam in the last couple of days and have already watched several of your training videos in preparation for hopefully getting a dog in the near future. You say German shepherds are probably better suited to families with older children; I have a daughter who is 9 but has disabilities and learning difficulties so while she doesn’t take a huge interest in most dogs or our cats, she may sometimes grab a tail or an ear etc. Or may accidentally sit on them (I have to supervise her anyway as much as possible so only leave the room for a couple of minutes at a time at most for cooking etc). I think German shepherds are a beautiful breed and would love to add one to the family but I’m a little concerned in case my daughter suddenly grabbed them for a tight cuddle or something and they bite. I know each dog is an individual but you think this would be likely for the breed or would growing up with her help to prevent this sort of thing happening? The other thought is to get a Labrador as they seem to have a higher tolerance with children from what I’ve seen

Very good video. I am going to share this a lot with potential puppy buyers. I have American show lines, which are good at herding and that's about it. I have one West German showline that could do a lot more though. Mine love kids more than adults.

Sadly we're unable to give specific advice on which breed is best for an individual and there are so many personal factors. However we do have a number of videos that look at what you need to think through when selecting a breed, top breed for first time owners (th-cam.com/video/spbmiHbLvVk/w-d-xo.html), top guard dog breeds for first time owners (th-cam.com/video/argXOrwOLWk/w-d-xo.html) and which dogs aren't good for first time owners (th-cam.com/video/gc0_Jy_vId0/w-d-xo.html). Hopefully, from using our content this will help you make an informed decision.

Not very clear. Once there paws could not touch bottom. Thats is far as they wanted me to go. Both fantastic with any child. Natural baby sitters. Kodie and I were at the gulf coast. He immediately made friends with the people next to us. There toddler started walking towards the water. Kodie stayed put until he believed the child was to close. Then just ran over and put his body in front of the child. He was side ways. Not aggressive. Just a thats far enough kind of body position. Everyone was cool but the little one
