Finally someone who says that even the 316i is a drivers car. It may lack power but even in its compact incarnation, it is a great, balanced car to drive. Everyone thinks that a BMW must have a 6 cylinder up front but that is not always right. The 4 cylinder engines are great too. Cheers!
Funny enough, i just bought an E36 compact, and i'm throwing an m50B25 engine in it with a turbo etc. It's gonna have the power alright.

Is there a big difference in driving between the 1.6 and the 1.9?
yes, you can feel the torque. easyer overtaking manoeuvre. The engine sounds better and is more silent/smoother.
I kinda like this old cars but my dad is against me buying one. My decision is final but he says that since they are old they break often. How true is that for 316 coupe version that i was interested in? I know it depends how car was maintained, but how reliable is this car?
Your dad is right, but if you paying for maintenance then buy it.
Well this 1,6 liter engine in this car is very reliable. (I have one.)
Yeah well i got a Compact of '99 nearly 2 Years and all of that time only the cylinder head gasket was troubling. Some months ago the MTL and Hardyscheibe. The 1.6 is a Engine that can survive anything. That car was by far the cheapest in maintenance but you need a good eye and check everything. Most of all no rust or deformation with a mostly nice Montrealblue shine 🥰
Was my best choice to that time.

the name "316ti" doesn't exists for the e36 compact models, it's 316i compact.
316ti refers to e46 compacts

cormac james And that is exactly the annoying thing here in the Netherlands, because we have the most expensive road tax in all of Europe! Road taxes here can amount to € 4000 per year!👀😬🤦♂️
@@jellesnaterse6709 hmm that does.sound pretty ridiculous, still tho the 316 shouldn't be that terrible on tax as it's not that high in the tax band in the UK the most is around £550 I think and the BMW is £220. For me thought I own it when I'm 18 and im not sure how insurance is for you over there but I pay almost £3000 a year for mine but that's because it's also on coilovers, race breaks, has a welded differential and some.custom bits on the inside
