I have watched this video a thousand times wishing one day I would be able to drive one of this magnificent piece of engineering. Nowadays i drive one of this that was given to me by my dad, it's not fast but is very very fun to drive, all works like factory and of course i don't use the turn signal (Just Kidding, When police there every thing legal my friend ). For everyone who is thinking to buy a e46 to be his first car I do encourage you to do it because you won't regret it .

If you're searching for an E46 try to buy an 320D because it's reliable, fast and cheap to drive. In my experience I have a 318i and it's slower and more expensive for maintenance than a 320D and you will see that the 320D is cheaper and more common to buy.@@andreastrimatis

yes, i drive one myself. At this high speeds, you definitely feel, that the car itself is made for a range of HP. Motor itselfs also runs perfect to the limits, it's a BMW after all. I love mine and would even keep it, if i'd get a newer car.
E36 is such a well-put-together car! The sound of the engine with the original exhaust is just like a jet engine sound!! Especially when decelerating/downshifting!! Such solid body (even the doors sound solid...when you close them!!) It looks, drives and feels like a very good, responsive, city vehicle!! My dream now is a convertible, manual box, E46! (And I'm kinda flexible of the color!!)
5:12 Oil Light pops up 🤣 But never knew the 318 were THAT slow. Used to have a e46 325xi (192 hp) which did 0-100 in about 8,7 secs...the 318 here did the same in close under 15 secs 😲
Yeah the I6's were great engines. Even the weakest 320i with 150HP was nice to listen to and rev up. But the 4 cylinders of Bmw were always garbage in terms of speed and acceleration.

@@tailgaters Mine wasn't mine was the exact same car but I had the ECU retuned so mine made 143hp instead of 118hp that increased the top speed quite a bit actually 230km/h on the speedometer.
Shuting ventilator off so maybe will go faster haha, remember having mine it can go 205 km/h, but always yellow oil light came on, it was slow but very nice looking, like brand new.
Great drive! It does take time to reach 200 but others BMWs you have shown reach pretty quick compare to this one. (I’m not talking about current BMWs)
thats because this is just a E46 318i with a 1.8 118HP engine, it is a bit under powered engine for this car. But i had one, it is still a very pleasant car to drive despite being a bit under powered. These get good fuel economy tho :)
@Lex Buren I own two cars , ome of them is a 2003 E46 318i , the N42 engine , but it puts more power , about 143 hp I think , and it tops 210 km on a straight with the AC off . Beautiful, smooth and fun to drive car . I gave it a face lift with a ZHP front bumper and an android head unit with Bluetooth and it looks fine
Wenn man die Gänge ständig bis zur Drehzahlgrenze ausdreht, den Motor stets am Begrenzer jaulen lässt, dann darf man sich nicht wundern, wenn dann irgendwann die Ölkontrollleuchte im Armaturenbrett aufleuchtet.
I have the e46 318i with 118hp and i am very Happy with it. For a Inline 4 cylinder it Sounds very Well and speed ist good either. I dont know why, but the 318i in the Video ist slower than mine. For mine it is no problem to reach 210km/h. But nice Video👍

Fahre ihn momentan knapp unter 9 Liter, wenn man jedoch sportlich fährt ist man auch gut und gerne bei knapp 9,5 - 10 Liter :D Natürlich ist das für 118PS schon recht viel, jedoch finde ich fährt er sich auch viel sportlicher wie andere Wagen anderer Marken mit 122PS oder ähnliches (Bsp Mercedes C180, E200 etc.). Also ich bin enorm glücklich mit meinem E46 mit M43 Motor :)

Kilometer runter und läuft perfekt. Lediglich die Kurbelgehäuseentlüftung (KGE) musste getauscht werden. Aber im allgemeinen gilt der M43 Motor als Eisenschwein. Der ist kaum kaputt zu bekommen, im Gegensatz zum Facelift, und läuft gut und gerne bis zu 500Tsd. Kilometer. Der Motor mag vielleicht für den ein oder anderen etwas schwach sein, was ich nicht bestätigen kann, jedoch ist er mehr als Robust und die Ersatzteile sind auch noch halbwegs erschwinglich. LG

I thought it would be a little Bit faster, my a4 B5 does pretty similar with an 1.6 Liter and only 101 HP. + I also gained around 10-15kmh without AC 😅

Many people said bmw I4 engine is trash. But, these days most of bmw car is 4cylinder and its great engine. BMW makes legendary I6 engine, that means, they can make great I4 engine too. + I4 engine is better for motor sports. Thats why people use it for track car(E36 318is etc.) E30 M3 engine is the proof

uh, I've got similar car (316ti - compact) - the AC makes it that REALLY slower! Even at city speeds always turn off AC if you want to be fast

Yes, due to the VVT and Vanos system, more power n torque too, but the downside is they're extremely unreliable
