    At this point the craziest challenge would be to see them tackle writing a song without a ridiculous limitation.

    • @kitsune630
      @kitsune630 2 ปีที่แล้ว +206

      I think the limitation is what brings out the creativity, without that time limit theres no room to to be too nitpicky with everything and pump out songs.

    • @davenelson8592
      @davenelson8592 2 ปีที่แล้ว +69

      @@kitsune630 Definitely get that but sometimes it feels like it's also a crutch. It never needs to be finished or be everything it could be because, "Hey we had to do xyz, what can you expect?"

    • @kitsune630
      @kitsune630 2 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      @@davenelson8592 yeah i guess so, maybe the best formula would be to pump out the songs with a time limit and refine them later on.

      I think instead of a First of October 2023 album, they should go into the studio for a week or so and try to expand on the best tracks from every album. In an earlier interview with Rob, he said that he wished songs like Vallerie had more time put in because he liked it a lot, but it just wasnt finished.

    Guys pay attention to the techniques and approach Andrew has when he is not thinking too hard. Lots of chromatic three note movement and the recurring shapes. Every riff has building blocks like this. Find your building blocks and mix and match! Many riffs are just like 8 tiny riffs strung together in different orders.

      Which one of those would be the fuzz that he uses most of the time, like on bike pile?

    • @lgrcallum
      @lgrcallum 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@julienlewis347 I would say listening to that specific track it’s probably the tone reaper side of the hoof reaper, with the volume backed off. But I think a lot of the time he’s stacking multiple gain stages given the amount of fuzz pedals on the board.
      In case you don’t know which are drive/distortion/fuzz pedals here’s a rundown of them (not in order obviously):
      EQD Hoof Reaper: it’s a three in one pedal made up of the Tone Reaper (a 3 knob tone bender style pedal), the tentacle (a green ringer octave up, definitely gets used for the sludgier/doomier sounding songs along with the Hoof) and the Hoof (which is a big muff style pedal, a lot bassier than the tone reaper).
      JHS Muffuletta: similar to the hoof, it’s a big muff style pedal, so quite bass heavy, it fills out a mix. This pedal has a selection of styles of muff to choose from too. It’s hard to tell when he is using this versus the hoof.
      Chase Bliss Preamp MkII: its a big all in one kind of drive/fuzz/preamp/distortion pedal, can do a lot of different styles so this could be used for a lot of the fuzzier sounds, and I imagine the other fuzzes are probably being stacked before or after it as it’s the only pedal capable of decent EQ sculpting on the board, and lighter drive tones. Any time there’s a more gated sound it’s likely this though as it’s the only fuzz capable of gating on here - it is also a contender for what’s heard in Bike Pile, as I know it has a vintage germanium voice which could be what I’m hearing there.

      @@julienlewis347 I will say probably best way to get similar sounds is with the EQD Hoof Reaper just because it does a lot of what the Muffuletta does, and far more with clangy octave up sounds and more vintage tone bender tones, plus there are cheaper alternatives to the rather pricey chase bliss preamp - not to knock that pedal obviously, it’s just expensive.

      #3 # air bud xD
      gives me such a ton Morello, rage vibe. Like, when you're doing dishes and throw a plate through a window.
      #4 #funkie chicken
      Instant James brown banger
      When Andrew gives his perfect giggle laugh over a "boop" @13:00

    Every riff sounded like a fusion of Smashing Pumpkins and ZZ Top. Loved every bit of it

      The whole video reminds me of pastichio medley from the pumpkins with it being a bunch of riffs back to back as well

    So amped for First of October! Also please use your favorite riffs and turn them into songs in another video. Maybe another sort of timed challenge but swap roles? Andrew on drums and Rob on guitars?
