@Harry Prager I'm not sure how/why someone would rank pianists, but Yuja is definitely not 31 and she definitely isn't the wealthiest pianist in the world. Your fanaticism might have gotten the better of you there :D

Harry Prager Again, who/why/how do people rank pianists? On what basis? Speed? Virtuosity? Lyricism? Cuteness?
Also, not that net worth has anything to do with how good you are as a pianist (rock pianists are, on average, much richer than classical musicians), but a quick google search will show that she really doesn’t have the highest net worth and that she’s not 31. I’m sorry if this upsets you, but try to remember that net worth and age have nothing to do with how well pianists play unless that’s how you choose to value pianists.

@@markfowlermusic I think of them not really as mistakes, but the stray notes that have to happen when executing passages at that tempo which kind of adds to the cacophany of it all, which is what you're going for when you decide to play at that tempo. That said, I just heard Prokofiev's own version of it, and he plays it much slower, and he really brings out the melodies and lyricism present in the Toccata. He also doesn't play it in a typewriter fashion, either, adding a little bit of light swing but also tightening up as necessary, and he doesn't particularly bash it, either. I want to hear more people attempt it that way.

Every time there's a student recital and Yuja was participating, the school made sure there is a piano tuner on standby because when she plays, she breaks a string or two. Tragic story about this piece: in another life, I was a videographer and had the duty of shooting this beauty pageant in the South. They had a talent competition, and one of the contestants played this piece. Not as flawlessly as Yuja (of course!), but pretty well. While we were setting up, she was practicing in the hall, going over various passages, trying to warm up and get her technique as polished as possible for the big moment. She was the only one who showed up to practice for the competition.
Now - this was the American South. The judges were local business leaders and minor politicians, not people who knew anything about music. During her performance, I could see them grimace and shake their heads at what they probably regarded as the cacophony of the piece. No consideration for what it took to even attempt it, much less do it passably. Only disgust that she wasn't playing "real" music. Something by Hank Williams, maybe.
She didn't even place. The f***ing baton twirler won. God Bless America.

Riochii Yes, exactly! A hundred years ago it was self explanatory that musicians also compose, or can you think of anybody in the 19th century who got famous just for playing?
I’m not saying Yuya isnt musical, she has to be so to play like the way she did here.
All I’m saying is that composing is the higher art and being an interpreter like her is a thousand times easier than being a composer.

Extraordinairement bien joue, rapide, clair,,rythmé, percutant.
