So just a quick question on rules references. Is there not an appendix in the back of the book that covers the subject matter alphabetically? e.g. Moral check pg 31, 32 and 46. I mean the appendix is my go to for information reference as it is more detailed than the chapter listing at the front of the book. Then use those little coloured tags to mark out the pages for the more contentious rules or issues.
There is a rules Summary section in the back of the main Hardback rulebook... and whilst not alphabetical, its easy to flick through and find the section youre looking for. I'm not sure if that summary is in the small softback rulebook that comes in the boxed set. I think it is but don't have it on me to check right now.
Hi, good question... They are plastic models, not metal, which makes them a lot easier for a beginner to deal with. You will need some hobby snips to remove the pieces from the plastic sprues, a hobby scalpel type knife which will allow you to carefully scrape away any mold lines, and some plastic glue to glue the parts together. I prefer the liquid type with brush in the cap. It's not a difficult process, but will take some time, as there are a good amount of miniatures in this set, so some patience will help!
Thanks for the query, the softback rules books are usually slightly trimmed down, though the core rules will all be there. But I'll double check and get back to you here.
Had a bit more time to look this over. The softback book is 140 pages in size, the Hb book is 236 pages. The sections NOT in the softback book are the detailed sections on ALL the troops types in the game, army lists, detail on Later Medieval Battles, and the Siege and Assault rules. So as said the small softback book in the starter set gets you totally into the game with forces provided therein. Which I guess wets your appetite to explore more the game can offer in other periods, and settings. If you already have models for the period, then the Hb books is probably your best bet. If you're starting Ancients for the first time and have an interest in Rome and her Gallic adversaries , then this set is definitely for you. I hope this helps?
