    Actually I have been in this style for over 26 years and I taught it for a living. This is just a demonstration to show FORM and TECHNIQUE. Those kicks would be used as finishing techniques mostly if applicable. I have been a bouncer for 16 years and I use my Tang Soo Do training often. In a modern situation it does not always lend itself to be used in the "traditional" style but it works and well. If you practice enough it does often resemble a routine because the moves are now reflexive

      That is called a “kiyup” and it’s to help focus breathing for more effective striking and engage the solar plexus so if you’re struck in your body, less damage is done

    No matter how you see it ; the techniques are relevant and you can simplify the movements to make it more compact and dynamic.
    Include more dangerous strikes and kicks to the knee caps , shins , groin , inner thighs , lower abdomen , strikes to the nape of the neck , wrist breaks , finger breaks and arm breaks - grappling.

    woohoo, i love Tang Soo Do, i trained up to an orange belt(i wound up in the hospital during my pregnancy and spent to much time away and when i went to return the place we were using we couldn't afford anymore) i actually got shit for being in my 20s and did this all cause apparently martial arts is for kids. martial arts is for anyone who wishes to learn how to defend themselves through hard work and discipline. i even got shit for saying i was gonna put my children in it cause they said its wrong to force a child into something they could get hurt in. its not forcing if the child has always done it. the only way it would be forcing is if they didn't want to do it and i still made them, which i wouldn't. if they didn't want to do it later on i wouldn't mind. martial arts its a great way to learn self defense and i know one big rule is never use Ur martial arts to start a fight. only use it to defend yourself or loved ones. if u use it to show off and start fights that is dishonorable. TANG SOO DO!!!!!

    I have a background in Tang soo do, I also am a Muay Thai practitioner, and use a bit of boxing footwork to create my own style of MMA striking. Many of these forms are much more practical for self defense, and point sparring, than for combat sports(but like I go onto say, great base). Some of the self defense should be taken with a grain of salt, because many of the more kicks will end up badly for you if you don't execute them perfectly(on the street). Even then, you have a large arsenal to choose from, like simple throat strikes, and gouging tech. I am saying all this just to reinforce that Tang soo do is a practical form of karate that often times feels more like a mixed martial art, than standard karate. The use of throws, joint locks, and yes grappling really prepares any martial artist to take the BIG step toward a more aggressive combat sport, while incorporating practical defense techniques. 3 ways to stop a fight: Walking, Seeing, and Breathing.

    @1x93cm no Tang Soo Do is a combonation of Korean Arts (that did not really work that well hence your point is partly valid) and Chinese and Japanese Arts. After all Tang soo do is "T'ang Hand way" in reference to the T'ang dynesty of China.
    TANG SOO!

    @MackenzieMichael There's not really a lot of dfference between TKD and Tang soo do (TSD), though TSD has one or two hand techniques not generally seen in TSD (for example, ridge hand). They are very similar, to the point that when asked what TSD is, I ansver that TKD and TSD are almost the same marial art. Note that there are some small changed in forms as well.

  • @TSD972
    @TSD972 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Actually it is 2 different styles of Kung Fu , Korean martial art and Japanese karate mixed. Grand Master Hwang Kee developed it after he fled Korea during the Japanese occupation and traveled through China. Tang = Tang dynasty China. Soo or Soohn meaning hand Korean. Do meaning the way of Japanese. Literally translated Way of the China Hand. You learn hard style Japanese in the beginning which turns to Korean arts and Kung Fu as you progress

    I prefer to go to work in the morning without bruses and broken bones... though I still do! The more you practice self defense the more it becomes a reaction. You might not have a bayonet come at you, but these reactions will work for a knife, staff, maybe even a sword. I don't know them, but I can tell you they are good. I would bet on them in not only saving them selves in a fight, but also anyone else in danger from the punks who threatens them. They are athletic and have talent.

    00:38.. That was brutal. I love how he got leverage with his left foot to add power to the roundhouse kick. If this is Tang Soo Do it's clearly a self-defense artform with the purpose of utterly incapacitating your opponent. Definitely a style I'd be interested in pursuing.

    Just a little history here, Japan Occupied Korea during WW2. Japan brought their culture to Korea, and some would say forced it onto them... and others they occupied.
    Much of modern Karate links through styles like Shotokan which all have roots in Okinawa. There is many ancient stories of Chinese dignitaries traveling to Okinawa and bringing chinese culture and martial arts with them. Kong San Kun Hyung is a strong example of this. they probably shared more than stole from each other.

    Quite the opposite and for various reasons. You are most vulnerable when you strike, having no air prevents your opponent from knocking the air out of you or taking you by surprise. Releasing air will make your strikes stronger and much faster. Opposite of what you stated.

    @Mynameisellie100 Its a demonstration. Im pretty sure they slowed down their movements so that the croud could keep up and get the idea of what happening. If one of these guys saw somebody with a real bayonet trying to really kill them, they would strike much much harder and faster. If this was done in a real street fight, I would be to stunned by the blow to grab anything. Im pretty sure you also know what your talking about, so what style of martial arts do you take.

  • @brucenatelee
    @brucenatelee 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @akrocuba People seem to ignore the fact that everybody has strengths and weaknesses. Not every 10th degree black belt in anything is gonna fight the same, even in the same dojo under the same master. You can't do any flashy shit unless is the right time, which isn't gonna be common. What you see in stand up MMA is what a lot of styles, like tang soo do, tae kwon do, karate, and kung fu, are also taught similarly. It's not the style, it's the individual.

  • @undertakerofevil
    @undertakerofevil 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    My favorite had to be the second charge. I can't say I've a demonstration for a traditional style using a bayonet (that's what it appeared to be, could be mistaken though.) It makes me wonder just what the army guys would think of such techniques.

    Yes of course i know that,no one can go undefeated.I think even Rickson Gracie lost a few times before but I just think that you can't go winning streets fights flying around like what they did in this vid.I was into TSD when I was in Primary School,made it to Green belt.But when i got in a fight,all the moves i tried pretty much failed.Got pounded in Side Control(i didn't know how to escape that time).Then some time later,my friend introduced me to BJJ.

    When a man with a gun gets close enough to take it from.. do so. If you are well trained and practice he has a 50/50 chance of shooting you at close range. Also if you find a guy that 1st punch does not stun (and there are plenty of them out there).. do NOT try the spinning kick. ♥

    Actually, it would. The stuff here looks dumb because it's a tournament, meant to look good. However, the reason that I love Tang Soo Do so much is everything that we do has a practical application. We learn to defend against a whole host of common weapons in the ways that we would be attacked, but even the underlying philosophies and traditions of the art have real-world applications and meanings in fights and self-defense. Never underestimate a good martial art.

    That said, Tae Kwan Do was made the national SPORT of korea in the 50's i think. Tang Soo Do, legally fought to keep out of being clasified as TKD. There is some good traditional TKD, but most of it is adapted for points/olympics - which sticks.
    That all said, every demonstration is "fake" so is every movie. Even Enzo Gracie said once you apply rules the competition is not reality. So modern Ultimate fighting is the same. So they hit and get bloody, thats full contact... so what.

    Moreover, I 'll ask you one other question.
    If you want to learn about European castle , Which do you choose the real castle in Europe, or the fake imitation castle of the Disney Land in France?
    And
    ★Japanese and Chinese martial arts are equivalent to the real castle in Europe.
    ★Korean martial arts like Taekwondo are equivalent to the fake imitation castle of the Disney Land.
    That's the difference.
    Recently, Pro-Japan nation like France have noticed this. But Dutch seems not.

    @SamuraiTogo, @rammsteingod666 This argument is just silly. One of you thinks people don't care about where their martial arts come from, whilst saying that Tae-Kwon-Do is the biggest martial art in the world because its the most effective. The other one of you thinks that because a country used a martial art developed by another country as a base, that automatically means the new martial art is stupid or "copied", while what it really means is that something called possible improvements happens

  • @SamuraiTogo
    @SamuraiTogo 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    OK
    Then, I 'll ask you one question.
    If you want to learn something, Which do you chose the real traditional one, or the fake imitation one without any history?
    ★For instance, If you want to learn Ninjutsu(Ninja's martial art), Which do you chose the real Japanese one, or the copied something in other countries like Europe?
    ★European might not get a feeling of strangeness for Taekwondo,
    But many Asians are feeling Taekwondo is a transparent imitation, not a real thing.
