While the combat is somewhat satisfactory i think that the dungeon part is not really strong. No real decisions to make on the map.

this is the most SCRAMBLED ive ever seen nl. from beginning to end he just couldn't wrap his head around magic missile or the fixed rolls. at 36:50 he just cracked, why have a guaranteed use of magic spear on all odd turns, when you could just not and wish you did.
I like your rational for not starting with magic spear right before the boss. 'Hear me out we can turn the dice into 2 3s and get magic spear' it reminded me of The Simpsons episode where Homer gets called to the police station and they tell him to either pick the box or a boat, and he goes with the box because 'the box could have anything, even a boat'
Every time NL puts his last die straight into infliction and not bumpblade to get another die anyway I feel personally attacked.

It took him 19 minutes to realize he rolls dice in descending order... after reading it out loud on the pre-game rules.
Not putting magic spear in the prepared slot with guaranteed turn-one 6's hurts

HE COULD JUST BE DOING 10 DAMAGE EVERY FIRST TURN!! I've never been annoyed by misplays but that one hurt. But sure, keep duping 4s on turn one so you can throw them
Nl. Why would you not just start with the magic spear and always do 10 damage. Egg boy you did 3 damage on each turn 1 just to get magic

Egg can be infuriating at times
It could be related to how he kept "hoping" for sixes. I think he may have forgotten the mechanic that the dice were in order for this episode and none of them were random.

I think he played more of the Witch off camera and might be referring to the times he lost when he took Hall of Mirrors.
That was crazy, you have 3 dice max and you start every match with a 6, but no, hall of mirrors is too slow I guess.
I've really been liking this series. One of the things that I love about a let's play is seeing that process of discovery and exploration of the rules, and Dicey Dungeons has that in pretty much every episode, because the rules are constantly changing in different ways. That *does* lead to more misplays, because you're usually feeling things out and generating a new flowchart on the fly, but I don't mind.

Literally start with bump and magic spear and you have a free 10/14 damage every turn.

No, you do not overrate Hall of Mirrors. You SEVERLY underrate it.
He literally said that Hall of Mirrors is simply not necessary and while it allows you to setup for incredible turn the game is balanced without it and it's simply not required... And he is right. Hall of Mirrors is bad because it set you up for better late turns while you could simply do more damage early and kill the ennemies faster. 66 hp (and that's the big boss) is only 2 or 3 turns of damages even with 3 to 5 dices, why wasting 6 to get more dices later when those turns would never even come if you just burst the boss down?
I skipped hall of mirrors most of the time and almost finished the game entirely without losing much at all. Hall of mirrors is a win more spell/ability. It allows you to be stronger later by wasting 6s early. If you can survive early while wasting 6s until halls of mirror is worth it, then 99% you didn't need halls of mirror to win anyway.
I think it's overrated because it's boring
NL keeps saying the game is easy, yet I recall him being 1 turn from death on both the Robot and Inventor.
Yea, but having a 80-90% success rate per run is very high compared to similar games. Even if he lost those runs, he still has a much higher success rate in this than other games.
I've been watching yours and Baer's playthroughs of this. It seems like Baer is getting too frustrated to continue so I hope you stick with this until you "finish" it.
Egg doesn't get frustrated because the gods will him to win no matter what

@@grapesoftime Baer was/is better at understanding the fundamentals of the game but the more frustrated he's gotten at the higher episodes the more mistakes he's made which just frustrates him further.

And I'm not talking some weird fanangling to get the second use of Magic Shield, he straight up had the dice right there to do it and instead didn't.
Loved the video, but it was so uncomfortable to watch the aging boomer bumble his way around getting magic spear out instead of just preparing it.
Yeah, but that dopamine hit when you use a wild combination silver culdron, bumpblade, duplicate, and 2 prepared and 2 upgraded slots to get magic spear out.

Magic spear or Hall of mirrors would have been a great pull. It's a bunch of damage or an extra dice every other turn. Way more useful than nudge.
Tossing Magic Spear in your prepared slot allows you to get around the double dice cost to invoke. You always start with a 6 in this episode, 10 guaranteed damage out the gate. Carried me through the episode.

Burning Light was highly under-utilized.
This episode lets you use Hall of Mirrors or Magic Spear on the first turn, every turn. I was hoping he'd do something cool like that, but he barely took advantage of how there's no rng for his rolls. Fun to watch like always, but kinda frustrating too.

Oh man, egg, Witch never gets more dice. That's one of the key things that makes it hard, and that's the key thing that makes Hall of Mirrors extremely good. It's a slight economy hit early to be able to constantly grow your dice pool every turn after.
I don't think there's anything more "NL" then almost putting the magic spear in the prepared slot, only to put a second duplicate instead and then spending his entire first turn fishing for two threes via an upgraded silver cauldron so he can try and cast magic spear turn 1.

I feel that if the game was any harder then it would end up being too reliant on chance to win, which would suck. I think its the perfect balance

a game with no time limit and the enemies don't have limit breaks like the player is easy... NL figured it out. it's a simple game, doing banter and playing the game is much harder.

Each dice throw would make him take 2 damage from thorns. I've made that mistake before
