Eggman, you used to love the zane. I feel like the inventor is dicey dungeon's version of the zane.
Maybe zane is a young man's game.
Once he turned 30 his Boomer Brain just couldn't keep up with the zane anymore
Honestly I beat this episode by using the lock pick gadget to turn into a bear and I have no regrets.
I wonder if NL will ever get to experience being the bear at least once during this playthough.

@@Dan-Simms You can play as a bear by drinking a bear potion. You stay as a bear for the rest of the run.
@@Dan-Simms if you fight the Alchemist enemy with a character that can steal equipment (basically the Thief or Inventor with the right gadget) you can steal her Bear Potion and if you use it to become a bear you stay a bear for the rest of the run. There's even Bear specific cards, Bear specific level up rewards, and Bear specific dialogue that the NPCs have only when you're the bear.
Every turn egg boy passes without putting extra dice into staff for next turn kills me a little on the inside.
Or split to use spike for extra damage...
Dicey Dungeons has a hard mode (now called the "Elimination Round" episode) which is a "classic rules" episode with stronger enemies, meant to be infinitely replayable like a classic roguelike. The "Parallel Universe" episode is also an infinitely replayable, alternate version of the hard mode.
Bonus Round is the infinitely replayable mode IMHO. It even has its own Hard Mode within it and it combines most of the elements and all the equipment from Parallel Universe and standard play. Elimination Round is basically just a preview mode for the Hard Mode of Bonus Round and Parallel Universe is just an equipment introduction with gimmicky special abilities and a preview on the alternate status effects modifier.
That said, a few gimmick runs would be fun to run over and over again just to see what you could do in them. Stuff like Finders Keepers has a ton of variance. Kinda wish the Devs would let you select or randomize challenge modifiers like that at the start of Bonus Rounds once you'd cleared Hard Mode. I doubt it'd be balanced, but it'd be fun.
The problem isn't the difficulty. Its the amount of items to play around with. There's so few in the game that calling this game a 'roguelike' doesn't matter. You runs are going to feel really samey after a couple of hours. Just because there really isn't much variety.
The worst part about NL's daily uploads is seeing that this video was posted 13 hours ago, which means I have to wait for another episode

This issue with Silence bugged the heck out of me too and got me super salted when I was playing. I have no idea why it doesn't work right.
Had it happen to me recently, I seemed to have better luck putting my dice on the text for silence instead of in the boxes. Might be worth a try if you see it again
Yeah it's a glitch. It's happened to me too.
a recent patch was supposed to fix this issue, but hasn't gotten all of the cases yet. So it is on the dev's radar at least

I've had luck by putting the die near a die location then clicking in the nearby area. That pulls one die into location, so you have to repeat the process for the second die. Overall, it seemed like an easy work around.
That shit at 20:30 happened to me too several times. This is a fantastic game concept, but holy hell is it a buggy mess. I've had 2 game-breaking bugs/hard locks, and just countless random bugs of duplicated dice/items, unusable equipment, etc. Incredibly frustrating.
Is Loud Bird guaranteed to appear in this episode? I got him in both of my attempts at this episode too, and he's such a problem for the ruleset that I wouldn't be surprised if it was designed that way

Trevor Stillson I hate this episode for the inventor because you can softlock yourself by using all your damage equipment up and I'm maybe still salty that I lost this episode by having that happen.
Think I found the gamebreaker here. Shop on second floor had Keyblade. NL was running with Focus as his gadget and Grindstone in inventory. Each turn; Focus all dice into 6s. Keyblade, 3 damage, get the dice back. Repeat twice more. Put 6s into Grindstone to recharge. As you get more dice you do more dpt.
I wonder if he could break the mode by upgrading then doubling grindstone+ with the blueprint?
I tried this run the other day and had a similar thought when I discovered grindstone. It does not work on itself, even with multiple copies. However, I did discover that upgrading refreshes durability, which was a lifesaver.

Just wondering, can you use your gadget multiple times in a turn until it breaks? Because if so I feel it would be a rather easy episode

Die Möre he does do well thinking this though it just very annoying when he’s so busy min maxing he ends he turns with out using the ray gun.

This upgrade ONLY increases durability, therefore we should do this upgrade that actually does LITERALLY nothing instead.
It did increase the damage by 2, to be fair. I agree that two handed sword was the way to go, but it did actually do something to upgrade

@@OhNoTheFace He still made some solid choices along with his mistakes. Overall, how entertaining did you find the episode? You see, ennelle *is* an entertainer after all. In my opinion, he delivered exceptional entertainment value last episode. Solid gameplay is not this man's ultimate goal.

I beat this episode from a glitch that made one equipment not lose durability. It gave me enough to sustain myself. Not sure what I did but I took it because I found this episode to be too challenging.

It's not a rogue-like, NL. It's a puzzle game.
Rogue-likes have more less complex systems; puzzle games have fewer more complex ones. That last part varies though. DD has few systems, and they're all very simple.
If you listen closely NL uses the term roguelite. Not roguelike. Of course he also uses it for Isaac and Spire. Which is a bit unfair to them after all the updates they've had. Dicey Dungeon on the other hand....

Love watching this game, but oddly enough not compelled to buy it. Doesn’t look very replayable.
MehYam2112 it's very replayable if you're bad at it and have to keep playing the same episodes over and over like me
NL said it this episode (one of the few times he's 100% correct): This game is not meant to be an infinitely playable roguelike like BoI and StS (despite false advertising). There are 36+6+1 (43) episodes, and there is a story / ending. If you like the gameplay, you play to finish all episodes & beat the game, which will take at least 50 hours if you stick to it. For a game with this price? It's a no-brainer buy for me.
Not all games need to be infinitely replayable, to be fair. How many hours of entertainment is "worth" $15?
@@TheSemicolon7 Honestly, that's very subjective. To me, $15 is close to a movie ticket. I'll buy a $15 game if (1) I find it interesting (so I know I'll make time to play it), (2) I know I'll get at least a few hours of enjoyment out of it, & (3) I want to support the dev (especially applicable to indie devs).

It depends on what gear you get from chests and shops. One too many spanners and 3 coin equipment you're done if you don't play carefully. Frankly, NL's been getting really lucky not having to play to the challenges. If his luck stops holding out and he hasn't learned to play to these characters he's gonna have a bad time in later challenges.

I beat it on my third try by not hitting max level.
In regards to least favorite characters I feel like I'm alone in this but the robot is probably mine.
Mine is Warrior (too easy), but Robot is down there. He constantly forces you to use your dice prematurely/suboptimally. For me, the draw of the game is not "the thrill of blackjack/RNG", it's using your turns optimally and doing clever plays to mitigate RNG.

Yo Canadianlion, a friend from Brazil(which is me :P) have a msg for you. When you are playing with the inventor the key for your "solid" runs are the gadgets, you are an smart guy so I hope this tip helps, because with the inventor you, yes, have to spend and change your equipment, but for what gadgets? I would wish you good luck, but lady is controlling the game sooo... yeah.

In any challenge you will see almost everything you COULD see in that challenge. It's less about adapting to what you happen to find on a run and more about adapting to the general rules of the challenge.
There's no mode in the game where every piece of equipment is shuffled into a big pile and handed out at random (probably because it'd be really hard to balance), every challenge is a procured set of equips that all generally make sense given the challenge at hand. If you know how to get somewhere you will almost certainly get the tools to do so.
Weird as it sound I'd call this a puzzle game.

I legitimately disliked this episode when I played through it.
So many wasted dice. You're going to use up the equipment anyway, it's just a matter of how fast? Will it be before or after you let the opponent have a turn. Clearly NL chose to give the enemy free hits on himself.
I disagree. Since leveling up heals you, getting lots of value out of each item use in this challenge is often more important than avoiding damage. If you toss 1's into hammer for example, you'll break it while having accomplished very little.
The gadget only works once per turn. Repeatedly using equipment pieces will make them break and override your gadget before you can get full value from the old one. The challenge lies in careful management of your resources, and your hp is an expendable resource as well.
I get that this is an oversimplification, but maybe it'll get the point as to why that's not the case across.
Say you have an item that deals damage equal to the dice value you put in. If you roll low values, say 4 1's, and just use them all because you don't want to waste dice, that equipment will break having only dealt 4 damage, whereas if you waited till you had only 6s it would deal 24 damage before it broke.
Part of the challenge of this is finding a balance between when to use and went to discard dice as to maximise your equipment's usefulness/damage output. Use every dice and you'll run out of equipment, wait till only the most optimal dice show up, you'll die before you use all your equipment. You have to find a middle ground, and that's exactly what NL did.

unpopular opinion: the inventor is the worst dice and needs a rework. sacrificing an item for a gadget just feels awful as there is no solidarity to a build. it's like being in a job for a week and at the end of the week one has to wonder where the next check is going to come from.

I don't think that's an unpopular opinion. She's just so antithetical to what makes the genre fun.
It's exacerbated by the way you fully heal each time you level up. It makes the early floors pretty inconsequential, because regardless of whether you dominate or barely succeed, you end up in the same place. Combine that with the way the Inventor can barely retain anything, and it makes most of the game feel like a pointless chore.
The whining is actually getting really annoying. I get it, it's your least favorite, but there's actually a ton of interesting strategy that you're not even trying to figure out.
Yeah, I’m starting to dislike this game quite a bit. It’s barely a roguelike, not a lot of items in the pool. Replayability is incredibly low, a ton of RNG involved (See that one robot episode which is literally just pure luck if you’ll win or lose.) Not a lot of characters, basically no constant theming with the enemies, (Just Lady Luck and the dice.) a soundtrack that gets very repetitive, and a high asking price when $15 can get you more engaging games (Even flash Isaac has way more depth)
It’s fun to watch Egg play it, but in my opinion this game doesn’t seem very fun.
Edit: Forgot to mention difficulty. It looks pathetically easy.

It's fine if you don't like the style of game, but it's not trying to be a rougelike. The point of the game is to go through the challenges, have fun with the mechanics, then beat the game and move on. It's not trying to be slay the spire, so don't hate on it for not being slay the spire.
The main draw of the game is the unique take on card games, where the rng is done through rolls rather than draw order, as well as the characters designs and how they expand on that base mechanic. And yeah, there's a good amount of rng, but it's a card/dice game, that's the point.
Also, challenges 4/5 are effectively hard and harder mode for the game, so egg will hopefully get punished for his misplays and have the non-rng factors of winning/losing get highlighted.
As for the difficulty, I hear that the challenge comes from episodes 4-6, and that 1-3 are easy.
As for the roguelike elements, the game is "barely a roguelike" because it isn't trying to be a roguelike. Just because it has some random elements doesn't necessarily mean it's a roguelike. Would you call Borderlands a roguelike?
All of your issues with the game are valid concerns, but they aren't to be unexpected from the game. This style of game simply isn't what you _expected_ it to be, and that's why you're disliking it so much. NL is right when he says the episodes are the content, not the roguelike elements.
