    bro im so glad your channel exists. im relatively new to the longboard/skate community and finding information for my first board was a nightmare. But you just tell it how it is, I definitely envy all the newcomers who get to make a more informed choice than I was able to.

    I think one of the coolest things you guys do in terms of video production is that even the "fluff" intro with the really cool artsy shots is still informational. If someone comes in and doesn't know what the video's title means, those first few seconds of clips show you A: what kind of riding this is for and B: what the product looks like. Really cool way to keep the entire video focused while still showing off your amazing filming and editing skills.

    Ya I recently got one of these with the rail adapter and the height was super shocking at first but I eventually got used to it.

    • @concrete-waves
      @concrete-waves  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah that's something I think people don't think about

  • @nat-lj8kt
    @nat-lj8kt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You should have mentioned the rail adapter. That's where the real game changer lies I think with Waterborne. Besides that, with a urethane system, rather than a spring, there will be much less pull/rebound which means you can stay in the turn longer. The rail adapter also helps with wheel lift in the deep turns and the board will tilt sideways a lot more than other surfskate solutions.
    Since it tilts so much, it will feel very unstable. On the otherhand since you need all that tilt to initiate the turn, it feels like a low degree front truck where if you keep control of your front foot you will be stable for the most part. Surely a unique feeling and one which I enjoy.

    Putting one of these on a mini cruiser was so much fun that when mine got stolen I immediately replaced it with the same exact setup. When my friends get on it they think it's sketchy as hell and almost immediately step off but there's just a learning curve as well as a mental hurdle to get over before you get used to it.

    • @concrete-waves
      @concrete-waves  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I love my waterborne. I pretty much did what you suggested. I bought it (and the rear adapter too, makes a huge difference!) and tossed it on my popsicle deck. Loved the ride so much I built around it, going old school Peralta deck 10" wide, 31" long and 17" wheel base provides a great surf feel. While I would love a smoothstar, surf adapter and rail adapter can be bought for the shipping charges on a smoothstar. Heck, my deck and a pair of Indies cost only a little more than shipping on smoothstar.

  • @symposiumpferde7135
    @symposiumpferde7135 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    On point analysis. Just buy a 2nd hand Cruiser and mount the waterboard. Make sure the wheelbase is at least around 17" and you're good to go for a small price. For beginners sticky wheels 78a are strongly recommended, it is snappy :-) Genious engineering w/o Spring Issues. Bravo #Waterborne !

    This is my all time favorite surprise purchases. All I wanted was a setup that would allow me to chase my three year old on her push bike while pushing my one year old son around in his little car. It’s how I play with my kids when the pool get too cold. Fast forward three months later and the three of us are hitting the skatepark early morning before the “big kids” (or any kids) show up. If you surf, like I do, you absolutely need one of these and if you skate, find a driveway or a bridge!! and do some power slides but keep your real setup handy. This is my third skateboard in my skate quiver. If you’re on the fence, it’s a no brainer, get it but here’s a tip, get a cruiser board with a loooong wheelbase. 16” plus. Customer service is the best too!

    I only ride e-skate and only for transport -- I use the eskate to get around to avoid driving and all the parking and ticket issues attached to it in a busy (pre-COVID) city like San Francisco. This waterborne adapter IS A MUST. The reasons are: 1.) being able to execute deeper turns and carving while maintaining current fast speed (like a bike) 2.) NO SPEED BUMPS.

    Speed wobbles happen on the rear truck (I mean in general). With the rail adapter the rear truck doesn’t really turn anymore, so I can see how this setup can in theory reduce risk of wobbles at high speeds. But uhhh I’ll let others test out the theory. I mean downhill skaters use lower angle rear trucks and 0° isn’t unheard of so... 🤷‍♂️

      @WATERBORNESKATEBOARDS 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Watching those oldschool videos of the z boys ripping on super narrow boards and doing super smooth sharp turns is extremely impressive! Sounds like you were riding something like that. Our Surf Adapters let you bring that kind of performance to a much wider and/or longer board. nothing is a replacement for skill, but it goes without saying that the Surf Adapter open doors for an otherwise conventionally set up cruiser or longboard. I think you'd be impressed with the improvements that have come in just the last 10 years

Because I was thinking about just purchasing a waterborne adapter for my cut out sector nine long board and I feel that maybe they aren’t comparable? Idkkkk thanks too anyone who answers

    I’ve been debating on getting one for my backfire board for a while now and still not sure if it is worth it. It will make the deck really really high up but also will help with tight turns as lower speeds. :/ I wish this included a test on an esk8 board but maybe that’s for another video or a different youtuber that focuses more on that side of the community. Great video overall and I would definitely get one if I had a secondary non esk8 longboard where I didn’t have to take it on and off frequently.

      I have a Riptide e board and I’ve had them for over a year and they are amazing. I would recommend them to anyone. Also when it’s higher off the ground it protects the battery case for when you go over bumps, off curbs, (idk if you have the backfire mini) and just overall protection. You feel like your surfing as well because the front trucks are what lead the rest of the board so it can do super tight turns. I have a short board with a kick tail but it would be super nice on a long board as well because once you get used to it, I at least have noticed that I get more control of my board. If you have the backfire mini(or just any backfire board), can you tell me how it feels because I’ve been wanting to upgrade, and I’m wondering how the carbon fiber feels overall, and how overall durable you would say the board is.

    Appreciate that you give examples of different situations even though it is personal preference. It helps me understand it more and make the decision based on what I would like. I want to try this on my drop down longboard.
    Do we have to get one for the front and the back?
    Do we tighten the thing that makes the wheel turn more on a regular board now that it turns because of the adapter?

  • @rickroth2188

    Think this would be good for someone just wanting to cruise on a longboard with a lightly more snowboard/surfboard feel. Just for a fun and lax carving experience and taking in the view/not too rough or fast of a ride, but just for a fun cruise?

  • @lukeswilley6391
    @lukeswilley6391 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been considering a Magneto mini cruiser for this adapter just to get my feet wet but I've heard a lot of people say to put it on a longer deck and wheelbase.
    What is it about your choice of smaller deck and wheelbase that you love so much?, Snappier, Better at Carving, Better pump efficiency? A man must know

    • @WATERBORNESKATEBOARDS
      @WATERBORNESKATEBOARDS 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically a long wheelbase will be slower to accelerate, but have a high top pumping speed. A shorter deck will be very fast to accelerate from a standstill, but have a less efficient pumping action once you get going fast. So if you are going for distance around town go smaller, and if you are just carving in a driveway, go shorter.
