I worked at a Ford Motor Company assembly plant. The substance that was mistakenly referred to as “rust” is an orange-ish colour compound used to inhibit rust and lubricate joints. It’s applied with a gun by the workers on the line who use it very liberally. It is beneficial to your metal do don’t remove it!❤😅
I worked at Honda Manufacturing and I was going to say the same thing.

hi Dorothy! thanks for the suggestion, it's a good one, but I have items planned to be located right on that area so that's won't work. I will be accessing that area from the front, with things I rarely need access too, but it will be accessible!! Lulu
Love the high tech terminology. Gotta love me a snakiedoodle. And there is definitely a difference between gunk and rust. 🤣 You both made my day. Reminds me of the zany things that happen with my sisters and me or my daughter and granddaughters and me. We all share that common thread... and isn't life just grand?! A-a-a-and...NO RUST!!!

Eve though there's no rust shouldn't you still spray paint anyway? You made me feel so good when you opened your new toys. I feel the same way ordering my camping equipment. I don't have a travelling vehicle yet, so I am camping in the state parks for now and tent camping. A very nice young man taught me how to build a teepee campfire last weekend and I cooked my first meal outside, a rib eye steak. This weekend I am waiting on my Deluxe Camp Kitchen, 2 rugs, string lights, an outdoor horseshoe game, and more. It's like Christmas in Spring in Ohio too Lulu.

Thisvwas so crazy because I received my rain guards and blackout/reflectix panels today also. I am thinking that our products were most likely friends at the factory! They will be so excited should we happen to be at a meet up together. Much ❤️ to you!

Yay! Not rust but a rust prevention, lol. What a comedy show, it brightened my very crappy day at work and made me smile and laugh to myself. Lu Lu, if you don't have any luck with body shops concerning your passenger seat... try to find a "custom van conversions" in your area. They do amazing things!
I called a few of those places too, no go!! but I think I may have found an auto body guy that will do it, stay tuned!! Lulu

You must watch Lady Bug Out. Her newest build out for her Ford transit connect she took her seat out and put a sort of folding chair and had storage underneath to make the floor level. It's really cool how she fixed her van.

@Lulu’s Way the seat usually has four bolts. Unless it has nuts underneath the car as well. I'm lucky I guess, I have an impact wrench and my seat is easy to remove. Then u just unhook the wires. You have a cargo van, I don't see what the problem is.

hey Kissy!! thanks for your note!! I'm so glad you are here! Lulu (oh yeah, trust me, I just wanted to paint over it too, LOL . . . reminds me when I was younger and when the car would make a funny sound, instead of going to mechanic to check it out, I'd just turn up the radio louder!! LOL)
I realize you can’t put in a swivel seat in that van, just like I couldn’t in the one I used to have, but you mentioned mechanics and body shops to remove the seat and they absolutely should do it. Can you believe my DEALER’s body shop put in a swivel seat base for me in my Promaster 1500? I couldn’t believe they would do that for me. It’s not typical, and I didn’t buy it from them of course. So if mine can do that, I’m absolutely sure that even the dealer’s body shop would remove a seat, and especially a regular body shop. The difference is mine they plug the wires back in when putting on a swivel base, where a removal requires some mechanical magic that the van doesn’t throw error codes from the plugs not being plugged back in.

How will you have access to the new found storage areas?
from the front, pull driver's seat forward and I'll have about 6" of space to put my hand to get things (only things I need seldom access to) and, if I can get the gosh darn passenger seat taken out, that whole space will be opened up and I will be able to access. I don't plan on keeping anything there that I use all the time. kinda like putting things in the attic! Lulu

Hi Lulu, you didn't register the "rust" because it wasn't rust. Cleaning the rust resembling gunk made it better. Even though it was hidden, having it cleaned makes it all better.
Dealerships and autobody shops etc will all worry about liability. You need to find someone you can pay cash to take your seat out most likely.

Bob Wells and HOWA can do it when you get to Quartsite Arizona.
Maybe a lot of investigative work but a fabricator might be able to change the bolts as needed if you wanted to turn it around. Hopefully the dealership is able to greenlight the situation. In my opinion if the car has no lien you should be able to what you want in your own vehicle. Heck we grew up without seatbelts, airbags, and sat on our moms lap IN the front seat 🤣... We made out A-OK.
