So glad Ashton is safe. Thank god for Brent** who sprang into action when needed the most. Most people would freeze up or wouldn't know what to do

@@i4gotall the bosun you are referring to had left the boat by this point, so to say I was taking that side would be pretty stupid as I am not sure anybody who wasn't on the boat would be responsible. If I was to take any side it would ALWAYS be with the captain, that way I would never be wrong. With that being said - at no time should the 3rd deckhand be running the boat, or their mouth.
@@i4gotall please let me say one more thing - my formative years were much like Captain Lee would advocate - "I don't expect to have to tell you what has to get done, I just expect it to be done." This statement certainly teaches proactivity.
This shed light on Rhylee who is always reminding everyone that she is a boat captain.....why didnt she react? Thankfuly Brent was there and was fast on his feet but Rhylee was closest to the lines and she just stood there and didn't immediately think to release the line to save Ashton. I'm in no way blaming Rhylee for what happened but I think going forward in the season, she needs to stop reminding us that she's a boat captain.

Chistie D I That Rhylee, the boat captain in Alaska, what was her reaction? To quietly say Man Overboard and STAND there as the rope snaring you got tighter and tighter. Someone should have immediately gotten in the jet ski and pulled you up to rush to create slack in that tender rope. A dive knife would have been a great thing to grab and as a matter of fact I think all the deck hands should wear one on a belt, because even on land you never know what. At sea the dangers are ten times greater. God bless you and you’d better thank Him every day.

i think in human nature most people freeze when confronted with an unexpected & scary situation. it takes an exceptional person who reacts instantly & properly. that makes them heroes. yes, i agree rhylee was useless.

First I wanna say, I literally cried when watching the episode of Below Deck of Ashton falling into the ocean. I cried again when Ryhlee explained what happened and when captain Lee showed the whole crew what happened on camera. I'm happy Ashton is alive and well. Its crazy what happened but intense. Regardless if it was a silly mistake Ashton shouldn't beat himself up over it. It's incredible that the crew helped out. And Brent saved his life, sorry but throwing that camera down to pull the rope off Ashton ankle is more important than catching all this on footage. Thank god they're all alright. His life is important and I can tell this accident still hurts Ross. And I'm happy Ross is a caring person who developed a good friend ship with Ashton.

Rhylee froze, but the anger she displayed this season is concerning, she has other unknown issues going on, we were reminded she was a boat captain all season yet she was unable to show her captain skills in an emergency.
she followed procedure straight up she called man down. stopping the boat is the whole reason that is what you do. both reacted like they should have. camera man for not caring about his job but dealing with real life
@@jugaloking69dope58 actually, she ONLY called man overboard, when the cameraman, or Tyler (who can be seen for a micro second standing next to cameraman) called Man Overboard, and Rhylee simply repeated what he said, on her radio, alerting the Cpt. She Froze initially. Season is in re-run in UK this week, it's clear, she repeated what one of the boys said.
She called man down she acted very quickly.

I literally cried watching this episode and watching Captain Lee go into Father Mode...Once Ashton got into his cabin and started to say how stupid he was for stepping on the lines, Captain Lee changed it to let's talk about how lucky you were instead and that is such a Dad thing...Captain was also present while the Dr. Examines Ashtons injury. This experience brought the concerned parent side out of Captain Lee to the surface...
As for Rhylee I saw so many bashing her that she didn't react...There are some people have the ability to react clearly in emergencies....The 🎥 camera man...I feel like initially Rhylee tries to stop Ashton from going into the water and that gets her adrenaline rushing..that inhibits her ability to think clearly as to what she needs to do next to save him..She is aware that she needs to call three man overboards but doesn't, she is more than likely not even aware that she is holding a life ring..Adrenaline has taken over clear thinking...However Camera man can think calmly for a solution to the problem in the emergency and act swiftly and quickly and save a life...Rhylee might be a boat captain but many many people react the same way in emergency situations...that's just body chemistry it's more common then not...The camera 🎥 mans Reaction is more unique....
On another note it's very endearing how each cast member came to check on Ashton..as much as we witness a certain amount of drama for the TV show I do feel like they do become like a boat family to a certain degree..
I think it was so ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE that Adrian when he went to check on him was the first one he asked him if he needed to be alone or neede to talk SO NICE VERY TOUCHING...Then told him how he would make him comfort food...lots of chocolate 🍫....so sweet..💙❤️..Thanking God That Ashton is Ok.
season in re-run this week in UK, your take is spot on. Ryhlee deffo froze, tho I am biase as her attitude stank her entire season. As the Cpt says She may be a Cpt on a dirty tug boat, but she aint a Cpt here..... he should have fired her. Lee lets things slide when its the gals, and throws the boys under the bus, from way back with Kelley in S2 and throughout the entire seasons. Kate could never do anything wrong. Today Lee and most crew have moved on. wonder what s10 will bring us next year. BD Down Under and Sailing franchises are ok too. Med, not so much.

I don't know about Kate, she is an awesome 1st stew but has a mean girl attitude! She did not look good blairing music in the hallway for the stew that left. Understand she is outstanding at her job with the guests but lacks a crucial human eliminent when it comes to her crew, the tapes don't lie I'm just saying. Its getting ready to happen to another stew this season, she's a mean girl who's great at her job!

I want to add Ross Is doing a Great job with his leadership skills and he also can defuse Rhylee with her temper...The compassion he showed with Ashton when he got back onto the boat was so genuine and it was like he was hugging his brother..True care and concern..there is not only a comradery, but a true unbroken bond.
That was so scary !!! Camera Man Brett is a Hero …Thank God Ashton was alright but it could of been a devastating ending. I think this happening will definitely change and review how things are done on Captains ship…

Captain Lee was so shook up that he didn’t want to come down and upset you further by crying. He immediately called a doctor for you and he NEVER died that. He was pulling himself together thinking, “I have children. What if I had to make the phone call to this great kid’s parents and tell them their son has died on my watch?” He had to leave the camera. Believe me, Captain Lee considers your horrible accident as the very worst moment of not just his yachting career but of his whole life. He cared deeply. And at this stage with crew and stews all sort of “Oh My God” not really thinking of their jobs but of you, someone had to stay at the helm of that boat. Someone had to be the steady. Believe me, he was crying in concern over you. His gratitude for your narrow escape from disaster was overwhelming and he knew it was just the luck of having one savvy cameraman nearby to loosen the rope and save your foot and most likely, your life. He knows that in seamanship, so LITTLE involves luck. Luck is a rare thing at sea. Ok maybe the weather gets lucky but saving lives? That’s someone thinking and acting FAST. He felt “The buck stops with me” and that ultimately what happened to you was his fault. He felt like a man given a reprieve he did not earn.
What's so sad is that after this incident Captain Lee had a son die.
re-run this week in UK, we're also told that Cpt Lee lost one of his sons to drug use overdose, so almost losing this crew mmber I guess caused all those memories flooding back.

Truth Inspector I agree!! She talked about I was a captain of another boat. Well all foul mouth should of done was jump in there and help him. Damn or go get the tender. People could of been hurt by that boat too. This crew was not a good crew. Don’t bring Rhylee back.

@@juliekeenan2868 I don't know what best practices is on this yacht, but usually entering the water is the last resort. Throwing a life ring and slacking/cutting that tow line is the priority without putting anybody else in the water and thus in danger of drowning.

Yeah good thing that cameraman was there and saved Ashon's life that Riley just stood there did nothing hope this puts her in check because that woman really has a mouth on her and very little action Ashton said watch the line watch that doesn't mean just look at it. Riley did nothing and they just stood their. Riley even said Ashtin own the cameraman his life because she just stood there.

And the last episode when they fought after being called to the wheel house, Ross admitted that he said one thing and meant another.....
Margaret, her standing there with this plastic life ring was just priceless....but the Captain feeling guilty, should. All of the Below Deck members, all should be made aware of safety measures and what to do each season for events like this. A simple release of the rope saved his life, something she should have done from the start.

as a deckhand i would have thought having a knife with you would have been standard practice,as it pretty much is on fishing boats in case of exactly what happened.

I have been on many boats. This was much more dangerous than it appeared on the show. I want to emphasize that. He was ok and everything fine but a rope wrapped around your foot and getting dragged off is normally fatal. Of the 5 times I have seen or heard it happen all 5 fishermen died.

The emotion to come and back on forth had the same thing happen something told me to hang on.
She's right the tinder trip felt like hell as a viewer too I kept thinking how shook up & trembling he must of been trying to keep it together by himself but he didn't have time to think about it and in those moments something else kicks in and you do what you have to do
Captain Lee should have sent someone to get the Tender, and Ashton... Then took Ashton to shore to go to the hospital...
Ashton could have easily went into shock that hour he was alone in that Tender with no help of any kind...
I love Ross, he's a good man.

These people claim that this is a dangerous job behind the scenes blah blah blah. So Captain why don’t you have a 10 min safety meeting every morning reminding the crew of the emergency protocols? The weakest link falls on the shoulders of the captain. It’s his responsibility to know how well informed and trained his staff are regardless of previous experience. All this could’ve been prevented if there was better communication between the captain and his crew. Even the interior should know what to do.
Even after all that happened they were still making mistakes. That’s a huge problem.
I dislike Riley because of her big foul mouth but she did say man overboard. Regardless if she whispered it I think the captain should’ve reacted or confirm. Instead he asked what happened so he had heard her...

1000% TRAING AND HIRING QUALIFIED PEOPLE. WHERE’S the defibrillator? Bandages? Why did no one call for a May Day? They got lucky. So many policy flaws. They were not trained. Why? CPR, EMT
The cameraman yelled “man overboard” first. Then rhylee did. She wasn’t sure if she should or not. WTF? Listen to the video. Everyone fell down on the job except Ashton. He even took the blame. Someone get his head on straight and minimize the PTSD please. It was captain lee’s fault. He barely reacted. OMG! He should have parked it and gone down there and helped. The previous comment was right. He did not assess the crew correctly prior to departure. NO PREPAREDNESS FOR AN EMERGENCY! No one was ready for this. The guests acted more appropriately. “Scared” and “very concerned. “ After all, remember chandler couldn’t even put a bandaid on the guest he dropped? The worst was the next day same accident ...Take the boat out of commission and train the staff already. It’s not safe on that boat. Capt lee knows it’s his fault. That’s why he can’t keep it together. All the crew is so selfish and concerned about their flirting. They are not focused at all. Capt lee should be evaluated for crew preparedness or lack thereof. Someone needs to be fired. My cards are on the captain and rhylee. Rhylee for creating a hostile workplace which is unsafe. RIGHT? Who is responsible for an unsafe workplace? Captain lee. Someone almost died! HELP THEM PLEASE.
Isn't it very like bravo to put people in ridiculous situations and then let the.take care of their own hides and deal with the fallout? This incident is partly caused by trying to hide the small workings of the boat from passengers who probly don't even belong on the water outside of a swmimg pool.

Ashton was Blessed that day w/ the camera Man’s actions ! It was horrific to watch and can’t even imagine what He ( Ashton was thinking ) although have heard his remarks since the incident .

I question the emergency 🚨 procedures on a boat such as this and if the crew has briefings or actions in the event of such a awful situation like this OR others .

This sounds ridiculously obnoxious but bless y’all. These Below Deck clips got me through my boyfriend being involuntarily held in hospital for psychiatric reasons. Seriously sat in his room while he was sedated on benzo’s watching these clips reminding myself “at least you’re not sea sick !!” Thank y’all so glad everyone is safe and ok❤️

Towing tenders this size comes with a huge amount of safety measures that should be in place, one of the most OBVIOUS ones should be a clear swim platform before engaging the engines. This guy got so lucky to walk away from this.

Why aren't all deckhands supplied knives on belts to make sure they can cut a rope quickly if a situation like this happens???? I am so glad you are ok, Ashton. Maybe now knives will be standard for every boat.

Because everyone reacts different in a situation like this. It's called flight or fight and you can't choose if you fight or flight. It's a natural reaction
I think Ashton had a wake up call after this incident because I didn't really see that player type Ashton afterwards. I could be wrong on that, but he definitely did get wiser.

Desperately trying to find out exactly what Brent’s actions were and what the possibilities were that didn’t happen. Rope tension relieved by Brent being able to undo the tow?
Everyone should understand, the ship had not completely gone into full throttle, and had Rilee been more aggressive in reporting man overboard, the Captain could have stopped moving moments earlier or not at all.

Apparently he unwound/uncleated the tow line from the cleat. Probably should have been Rhylee's first and instinctual move.

So basically the guy that when overboard step in a hole in the tow like and went overboard and the cameraman untied the line so the hole wouldn’t knot up and basically rip his foot off. Which would have caused him to bleed out and die because there would be no way for them to 1) get to him in time 2) get him treatment in time

Everyone is kind of ripping on Riley doing nothing, but can you imagine if Chandler and Caroline were on? Yeesh. Ashton survived for many reasons, Brent, Divine intervention, and because he keeps his body #1 priority strong and fit. Feel like we need to have a celebration of life party for him. He can all teach us a lesson of enjoying life because he knows how.

I thank God that Ashton was okay and he made it I love him and Ross together they remind me of brothers and I'm glad that they have an awesome relationship my heart went out to him when he fell in that boat one thing I have to say I enjoy watching these shows but I am so tickled and I pray God that Riley never hits back on this show I was so sick of hearing about her being a freaking Captain I'm a campin I had my own boat in Alaska I'm a captain that's all she did was run her mouth and darn turn people against her because of her damn attitude that woman is got the filthiest mouth I've ever heard on somebody she is a sick individual thank you

Elizabeth Dobson he said in his post- accident meeting that in the future any man overboard needs to be said loudly and clearly and at least 3 times- he said he barely heard it and that’s why it took him a second to process what rhylee said and stop the engines.
Something lacks seamanship about that whole procedure of dropping the tender back to the towline while simultaneously starting forward. And depending on radios instead of having the guy at the helm in visual control of the situation to accomplish it feels more like filming for dramatic effect than is necessary. Glad Ashton could take care of hself once it happened.
This whole deck crew was so unprofessional for people who supposedly have experience. The Deck crew last season was Green and had less serious mistakes than these supposed Veterans did. Then Ross Starts messing with Rhylee who is a subordinate and he should have been fired for that, I was disappointed because he had a good chance to be a good Bosun. I bet Lee wishes he still had Eddie as Bosun because all these guys are terrible and someone almost died because of it.
