There was a time when every Jools series included at least one, sometimes several performances which I would replay over and over, louder and louder - even back when that meant rewinding the VHS tape! This is the first one for a long time; fabulous.
Did you catch her quick wink at the end? She definitely knows they are good, which is great. Love how at last there’s something fresh. Perhaps there needs to be broader music history lessons for budding youngsters to avoid the derivative trap; these guys and this gal clearly know their history and how to embrace it without being derivative.
Just listened to the album after watching this. Oh my! They are extremely talented songwriters with a lot of genius harmonic twists and turns with great lyrics. “You blister my paint” is such a brilliant metaphor…damn! It’s all extremely musical and actually something quite new. Not that it matters but I’m a 72 year old composer and it’s extremely inspiring to hear something that rises above the generic. Great stuff!!!!
Definitely. One of the few bands that have pricked my interest recently. Great musicianship and Lily is charismatic (and a cutie but that's a personal opinion)
I'm in my 60s and I don't think I've been quite as enamoured with a new band as I am with them. They are without a doubt, something special. Fantastic musicians and Lily Fontaine is an absolute star. 🖤😎
Discovered this last night. Love it. Also discovered they were playing an hour down the road from me. Dang. Coolest looking guitarist in aeons. Absolute sass up front. Love everything about the lead singer.
Saw these guys supporting Yeah Yeah Yeahs last year and have been keeping an eye on them ever since. Really great band with one of those singers you just can't take your eyes off (no hetero). Looking forward to seeing what's next with them
Same. I downloaded this track over a year ago I'd say and thought it was brill then. Glad to see it's getting the attention it deserves now even if it took longer than it should have.
The best new track I've heard this year... Fantastico! Shades of 1980...Au Pairs etc, but these days no bad thing. They have their own unique energy :-)
I love how they ride those influences into the modern day. I'd love to understand more what makes their vibe so modern. I know I'm missing a lot because I'm not up with recent (last twenty years!) music. That a band can make me want to discover more contemporary music is quite the feat!
Getting a bit carried away there . When brilliant artists like The National, Low, London Grammar, Suede, PJ Harvey and LP have all been on JH in the last 10 years !
@@jackjude This band are nothing special imo. But I can see why someone might like them . I think say Savages are similar to these but better. But hey music is all about opinions.
@@keithbate9405 Savages, yeah I like 'em, very under-appreciated - _veeery_ Siouxsie-esque. Not seeing too much similarity here with ET though. Black Country New Road spring to mind for me. As you say opinions.
Nah. It's perfect. JUST enough there to open it up and then restore the attention, which isn't just great structure, it also brings you back to listen again.
Extraordinary. Only just found out about them this afternoon & instantly tried to find a gig & bagged a ticket for their November O2 Shepherds Bush Empire gig xx
Can't wait for the album next year and will 100% hope to catch them live at a gig or festival. Love that Lily is from a local town to me as well...excellent keep up the amazing work.
Wow! I’ve heard the studio version hundreds of times playing FIFA but this is HEAPS better. Amazing stuff. Also loving the Jefferson airplane influence.
Tip of the iceberg for ET. Seen them twice live now and they are just ace - lovely folk - top musicians across the board and Lily Fontaine is set to be the world biggest smallest celebrity as they build to debut album release next year. See you in Bedford (twinned with Leeds, ask Yard Act) in Feb😎🤘🏼
ET! 😂 Are they? Yes they are. From this "universe". And from other parallel universe... From every (where... all our melomaniac ears delight!) This is brilliant!!!! ET is brilliant!!!❤❤❤
This band are SOMETHING ELSE. Its so so so rare to hear a band for the first time and be blown away. The last time it happened for me was 20 years ago with Interpol. But this English teacher are making beautiful beautiful music and deserve all the acolades that are sure to come. ❤
I've not watched Jools Holland regularly for a few years and this is the sort of band I liked to see on there but thought didn't get on any more, more variety in general is a good thing
This came up on my feed and even with no sound I was intrigued by the bass player. These are great. Seems to be some good bands coming through at the minute with genuinely talented musicians, rather than just cool posers.
Oh almost forgot. They indeed have a "glitch"... somehow... Which is, where's the album??? No, just trolling... Actually I'm really really really hooked on them ET 😊 I'm sure their stunt isn't like that at all... They are actually going to pull it time and time again... Sorry for repeating myself. Where were you all of my life???? Shhhh don't answer! I'm hushing now... You're here already!!! ❤
the Kubrick of pop music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That chorus is one of the greatest hooks I've heard in years.
yet i can't even work out which bit the chorus is...

Heard this song for the first time yesterday, I was busy grooving to the main riff and I lost my shit when that first angelic chorus dropped
@@robf1970 the shoegaze-y parts.
Lmao stop glazing for likes 😂

Amen to that Brother !!!
JH has become obsessed with a woke/PC agenda for some time now. Just like the Mercury music prize .
I love the fact that she can’t stop smiling coz she knows how bloody good they are. Not even arrogant just a fact.
probably just having fun

Yes the wink was great.
Brilliant. The cheeky little wink Lily does right at the end ;)

Language Timothy! lol
Congrats on winning the 2024 Mercury Music Prize 🎉🎵🎶🎸
Definitely. One of the few bands that have pricked my interest recently. Great musicianship and Lily is charismatic (and a cutie but that's a personal opinion)
This is the sorta music we were lovin back in the day!!!
Great riff and attitude.
Love it!
Wow. I love this. The backing sounds like "Drums & Wires" era XTC.
What a performance. Got high hopes for their debut album 🔥

Bleeding confidence. They are scary being this cool. Scary scary scary. A force to be reckoned with
Perfect timing, structure & sass!
Phenomenal... don't let ANYBODY tell you that there is "no good music nowadays...", simply show them this video!
Loving this band.just bought tickets to see them
which venue mate ? I can't find any...😡....great band...
Swx in bristol in autumn
A riff Ricky Wilson (B52s not the kaiser chief ) himself would have been proud of
Yes, it was reminding me of "Give me back my Man" 👍👍
Great spot, dude
I just thought it could be any classic 80s post punk bank - you could turn that riff into a Killing Joke or Gang of Four song.
At the first time I heard that song on FC24 I've felt love. This music was literally the top 1 on my Spotify last year.
Italo, from Brazil 🇧🇷
espanco demais, quando toca depois de um clubs é insanso
What a chorus!....love her voice ❤
Brilliant, one of the best performances of this series by some distance
Saw these guys supporting Yeah Yeah Yeahs last year and have been keeping an eye on them ever since. Really great band with one of those singers you just can't take your eyes off (no hetero). Looking forward to seeing what's next with them
The little wink on the last beat of the last bar says it all.
Been on my radar for a while now.. Still yet to see them live.. This performance is 🔥
Same. I downloaded this track over a year ago I'd say and thought it was brill then. Glad to see it's getting the attention it deserves now even if it took longer than it should have.
I definitely want to catch them live
Not to take anything away at all ... that chorus is soooo Steven Wilson. That's how good it is. TOP STUFF!
So good on so many different levels!
Love it Great post punk inspired sound. Will definitely check out more of their music.
Mind-pulverizingly great
Wow..Up The Colne Dynamos!! Got to see these play live.. Loving this❤❤

Very tight, very nice melody. Great voice.
BOOM best song of the year..Punk poets
That's that early 90's sound, love it. Should ride that dreamy chorus a bit longer though.

You're in for a treat. Saw them in Nottingham earlier this year and they were phenomenal.
@owenbrown8173 excellent!
What an amazing song
Great tune. Props to Ian Beale on drums..Ciiiiindy!!
lol good spot
Can't wait for the album next year and will 100% hope to catch them live at a gig or festival. Love that Lily is from a local town to me as well...excellent keep up the amazing work.
Her voice is really good. Reminds me a little of Grace Slick, especially in that chorus.
Thought the same. White rabbits ...
Awesome. Amazing energy. Great song!

thats a great song. Thoughtful and getting it. Dont Stop.
This series of Jools has been especially great - tons of great new stuff to listen too.
Stoked for the album.
Hooooooly f*ck. They're gonna be superstars, I'm just honored to be on board early
Countless people are also happy about this.
Thank you
.
They've been around for 3 years, man.
@@redadamearth It's all relative! They're super underrated still. They're gonna be playing the biggest arenas in a couple of years

Best song, best lyrics, best band, anthemic daughter of the moors
The Kitchens of Distinction live !!!
Francis Bourgeois nailing it on bass.
Finally a band who's not the copy of a copy.

Fantastic.

Amazing. Riff reminds me of Do the Evolution - Pearl Jam and Rocks - Caetano Veloso. Good band, I'm following them now.
Superb!
Wow, love it ❤
Sounds great, even more exciting that bit higher and faster. 👍
I love you
There is a massive paving slab right outside Colne Town Hall In Lancashire....
These guys give me asmr
Brilliant
Remember JJ72 - love them - has that vibe which I miss. Cool band.
I do remember them some catchy tunes but wan try-hard miserabilists, not getting that vibe at here at all.
Literal chills
Seen it all before, and executed far better.
I am 69 so often think that but l like these, despite disliking almost all indie. So who do you rate better than these?
What's with all the white, middle-aged, miserable bald men in this comments section? Have these ended up on the EDL hate page or something 😂
Should have added with a F-in weird profile pic 😂
Hey guys, I just wanted to say you all smashed it!!!!..Hopefully, I'll see you all soon, guy!! and you nicky at Christmas x.
his voice like mazzy
love
This is the only band that I don't despise spoken word in music. They make it sound so interesting and not cringe.
Interesting comment. Try _Whipping Boy_ - "(We Don't Need) Anybody Else," from waaay back on Jools.
Great song from a great debut album. That could be Texas.
I think I might like this 😊
In france we have patrick bruel
yeah!
Smashed it 🔥
Here after hearing in FC 24 😆
Oh almost forgot.
