I was at Alabama in '87. Everyone looked forward to this game every year. The Penn State fans were great and were always welcome on the Strip.

As a PSU fan, we loved watching this game every year. My family and friend's tailgate always enjoyed socializing with Bama fans every year in Happy Valley. Bama fans were class acts. Wish this game could be played every year.

I don't know if there's another series in college football that typically had as much mutual respect between the fans. I grew up a Penn State fan though I don't like the current program. Last time I met an Alabama fan was at a random bar - just happened to be a Bama fan next to me. We talked a good deal about how much we respected each other's football histories.

Humphrey’s long touchdown run was a thing of beauty.
Alabama quarterback, David Smith, is now an SEC football referee…. I see him every Saturday calling a game on TV.

Good one. Bobby Humphrey puts on a show in this one. 1988 game between these two used to be on youtube. Derrick Thomas in the 88 game had probably the greatest defensive performance of the century. He had sacks, safeties, blocked kicks and punts. Guy was an animal that season and that year. I think he had 28 sacks that season.

    Derrick Thomas was a monster!

He was Michael Myers, Leatherface and Jason all rolled into one a year later in the '88 game when he had 6-7 sacks and the safety. Greatest single game defensive performance by a college player I ever saw.

It's a shame cool, regularly scheduled cross conference games like this rarely happen thanks to modern scheduling.

The 1987 season was one of my favorite ever. Thanks @steelbuck! Anything you can upload from '87 is great by me. Lots of talent at RB in this game. Thomas and Humphrey were excellent. And D Thomas is one of the biggest LB ever. Much appreciated, SteelBuck.

Holy crap. I was at that game. Freshman year. Kind of a disappointing season, but everyone talked about the 4 year plan (every four years a natty contender). But, we haven't had elite qb play since Kerry Collins.

Kerry Goode might have been one of the best to ever play at Alabama is he had not injured his knee vs BC in 1984. He had almost 300 all purpose yards through 2 1/2 quarters. This was back when teams were still allowed to play defense.

these are the games I grew on as a college football 🏈 fan it’s rare to see games like 👍 this in the morden era because it’s all about money 💵

I liked Coach Curry...but his teams were so inconsistent. Alabama looked like National Champions vs Penn State, LSU and Tennessee but looked terrible in upset losses to Florida and Memphis State. They were never in the game vs Notre Dame and played well vs Auburn, but played too conservative. It was like that in 1988 and 1989 too. But this was an amazing night for Alabama.

Thanks! 1:00: This may be the first Paterno PSU game I've seen where Penn State elected to receive the kickoff.

'87 was an up and down year for Bama. They beat Penn State ,Tennessee and LSU, but lost to Memphis State etc . Finished 7-5.

great win over the defending champion Penn State lions however Bill Curry went on to be just a mediocre to above average coach mostly mediocre but still one of the great ones in Alabama history beating a Penn State national title team that was basically intact from the year before
