Great advice here. Now I properly understand how IP addresses work. Spent hours yesterday trying to get my new Hikvision camera set up. Watched this video and then realised that the ISP gateway IP must be compatible with the IP address of the camera. I changed the IP address of the camera toi make sure the router could see it, and bingo - it worked! Thanks so much for this video :-)
so the thing is you somehow guessed or knew what you camera range is and changed your ipv4 according to, but what if we had no idea about the camera ip ? can it be done by MCadress?
Really good tutorial, thanks! I have a HikVision NVR and a few Chinese cameras. The image quality is superb, but I can't configure it's functionality. Those cameras has face recognition, human recognition, tripwire, intrusion area, etc, but I can't trigger the recording on those events. What do you suggest? Thanks a lot!
Thanks for this excellent and clear video. My challenge right now is locating an older ip camera on my network. I can see video from the camera via a P2P app but cannot talk to the camera to confirm its settings nor locate the camera via an ip address.
Looking at the tutorial, its quite clear you are demonstrating how to make the cam discoverable on your network assuming you know its default static ip add. But the video was supposed to demonstrate to us how to find a camera that its ip address is unknown to you,so the video doesn't seem to address that problem.
The title is actually “locating an IP camera ON YOUR NETWORK”. That means on the same gateway. So the video is exactly what we said it is. That said, The method for finding a camera not in DHCP (off your network) is dependent on manufacturer. For Hikvision SADP Tool will do it. For Dahua it’s their config tool. I have videos on both of them.
Sir how can I get cameras reactivated if new router but cameras show video loss.Certain internet providers like Charter and Spectrum are not much help and BunkerHill has no support staff.Any suggestions!
Hi, thank you for thus, but I'm still stumped. I've got a Dahua NVR with one camera hard wired into the NVR....and when I run the Dahua config tool, it only shows the NVR and not the associated camera?
Thank you very much. You are best teacher in the world. I learned a lot from this video. I wonder why my IP camera worked first set up, and next day never work(shown camera off line). So I only used first day, and can not use from 2nd day. But you gave me a great way of solve my problem. I will follow your instructions later on. Again thank you very much and May God Blessed for you and your family.
It depends on who manufactured the camera. Do you know the OEM? We would have to start there to determine if you can use it. It may be Honeywell, is there a name on the cameras other than Xfinity?
Hello. Can you please help me as to how I can use my icam2 which was through my cable acct. It is manufactured by Serrcom. It was only 1 cord which is directly wired from the back of the camera and the other end is Ethernet that plugs into power block. I can't fid any info on this configuration. I would greatly appreciate your help
The camera may have changed it’s IP address if it’s in DHCP in network setting. When you plug into NVR, it is plug and play so NVR programs it. But when it’s not plugged directly in to NVR it is manually added. So I would plug a laptop into PoE switch and do a SADP scan to locate its IP addresses. Make sure they are the same in NVR channel settings.
what if im trying to find a camera on my network that i dont know about in my own home...there is four ip6 adresss and in the video onivif d/ev manager doesnt say its a camera would i just use advanced ip scanner on each ip address
Thats all fine and good but like you said you already know the default IP address the camera comes with but what if you have a used PoE camera and you don't have a clue as to what the IP address is then what do you do?
What can I do if all cameras experience video loss and several months ago internet provider changed router.Would any ports be affected and need changed?
I have a VNS camera that I cannot find using it’s default IP , I think it’s IP has changed and it doesn’t show up in VNS viewer; how can I locate it ? I appreciate your help!
By using the manufacturers configuration tool. Hikvision is SADP and Dahua has Config Tool. Use those to locate your cameras ip address and gateway. Hikvision is generally 192.168.1.64 and Dahua 192.168.1.108 although many new cameras are starting to be shipped in DHCP.

There are many manufacturers so unfortunately many different ways to locate a camera so the video is pretty thorough. Thanks for taking the time to comment though.
That is the first time I have heard that one. If you have a router, you can do an air survey and see anything with a wireless card and look for cameras. Of course, it could be a neighbor with a perfectly legit camera in their yard or in their home. Hard to determine if it is watching you. Could go old school and look for the red IR illuminators at night.
If the IP camera is in DHCP in network settings, the IP address may be changing when you have a power failure. Change the IP to static and see what happens.
If you don’t have a router, you would have to locate the camera by SADP for Hikvision cameras or Dahuas Config Tool for Dahua. Each manufacturer has its own scanning tool.
If I had the IP of the three cam I have. I could find them also. Like most I don't have them and they don't show up on any scan. OK They are static. Now we are back to guessing. Really need to rename this video. Sure you can find it if you have it. It's still a good video.
Your video did show me how to change the IP. I just can't remmeber how to get the wifi part to work now. Your video did help find the IP of the cam. So Hats off good video.
