    Currently on Vol 19 of Golden Kamuy and I'm about ready to crown it my favorite manga. It has EVERYTHING. I'm trying to convince my friend In Japan to go to a showing of the new live-action film and grab some merch to put into a care package for me lol
    Have the entire Soloist manga being delivered to me today. Sounds like I won't be let down.

      I honestly didn’t even know there was a live-action version of Golden Kamuy but that sounds super fun lol

    Wow! I'm surprised you read so little last month!! YAY for indie manga though! I felt A LOT of emotional whiplash going from Orange Future and Orange to you dear one! I LOVE Orange Future and always sob reading that one so I struggled a little bit going into To You Dear One, but I did enjoy it overall! I ended up sending the series to a friend who loves the series a lot more then I do! It's interesting to hear you share about Children of the Whales! Great video!

      If I hadn’t already sent my friend my old copies of Orange I would send these ones to her… maybe I’ll donate them to my library

    Finally someone that shares my opinion about Anti-Romance! The characters had no chemistry at all, I didn’t get the feeling of them being childhood friends in love with each other at all. They even felt like strangers at times.
    As someone who also bought all of Children of the Whales based on a few volumes (only 1 in my case) your review scared me. I hope our opinion differs on that one, or else I’ve wasted a lot of money lol :)

      @tonireadsmanga  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep, exactly. I struggled to believe they even liked each other at all.
      Sorry for scaring you lol, but I really hope you enjoy it! I have some friends who really like it so maybe my opinion is just unpopular.

    Yayayayay I loved GC and the ending a lot! I did not know anything and was reading ti completely blind from vol 1-to the end. Lets say it was very hinna hinna.

      The ending was definitely not osoma ;)

    I was not a big fan of Children of the Whales either. I really wanted to like it! I LOVE Shouji/Josei fantasy and the serious undertone with this artstyle looked perfect.
    I also did not like the fantasy names, but that is often the case for Japanese fantasy manga and most of the time I can neglect it and still enjoy the story. (For example these "German" city names in European style villainess stories. As a German, I cringe a lot because they sound German, but are not and just feel really weird for my brain. But German is hard and why should Japanese authors have use it - it's fantasy.) When the story/characters do not grasp my attention enough and you focus only on these words, then it becomes really painful.
    I think I just did not like the characters enough and when the "catastrophy" starts, I did not want to read further. With hard/depressing stories like that, I really need to like the characters to be able to get through the rough scenes.
    I stopped after Vol.2 and have sold my copies already.
    Everytime someone talks about Golden Kamuy, I tell myself to check it out. It sounds incredibely good with great characters. I've recently started my Seinen journey, and maybe that's the next series I need to pick up.
    Thank you so much for your thoughts!

      I’m really glad to hear I’m not the only one who disliked the naming scheme in Children of the Whales. I felt like I was being too critical but it really made it almost unreadable for me, especially when, as you said, the characters were not engaging.
      Hopefully you enjoy Golden Kamuy if you give it a try!

    I haven't read my copy of Panorama of Hell yet but I have read a decent amount of Hino stuff and your discussion of it makes me think you will enjoy his other stuff quite a bit. The talking to the reader and mixing of comedy and gore is prevalent in most of his work. Starfruit released The Town of Pigs last year which is great and then The Red Snake is due by them this summer (which means most likely it will come out in 2025 based on their previous release history). Too bad about Children of the Whales I plan on giving it a shot sometime in the next few months to see how I feel about it.

      I’ll have to grab the reprint for The Town of Pigs then. I actually ordered a copy during their original printing but it got lost in the mail and I never received a replacement. But either way, I’m very excited to read more from Hino. Hopefully you enjoy Children of the Whales a lot more than I did.

    No surprise there, that a Shoujo junkie like yourself would have romance and contemporary slice of life as the second most read in January.....😏 hehehe
    (Sorry, couldn't help myself lol)
    Does this mean February's Shoujo craze
    wasn't the best ever?😶
    Mind blown! 😆
    Oooo, Ive been wanting to try Soloist in a Cage. Unique premise for a manga.....wait, did you say....there's cults?😯
    Based 😎
    I'm so damn jealous of your Panorama of Hell. Ive looked but I could not find, in my area😞
    Noooo, poor Children of the Whales taking the hits.😭 But on a positive note, at least the covers are pretty enough you should be able to pass them on for someone to buy🤷🏻‍♀️,lol.
    As for myself, Id be interested in hearing about any horror novels you've enjoyed. I love horror which doesn't bode well for my manga collecting, seeing as it's not a popular genre for that medium. feel free to recommend any of those on your Instagram

      The only shojo manga I loved in February was the horror one, which should come as no surprise lol
      Have you tried Star Fruit Books’ website for Panorama of Hell? It doesn’t definitively say it on the website but I think they might ship to Canada if you go to the checkout page. I’m sure it’s probably expensive but it might be worth taking a look.

      @@tonireadsmanga I could grab it from their site but add shipping.... let's just say, even though I really want it, I don't think I want it bad enough to pay around $95 for it lol😬

    DNFing and unhauling is a good thing!!
    I started a re-read of Fushigi Yugi in February and I got 3 volumes in and DNFed it. It just doesn’t hold up.

      It’s really disappointing when a reread makes you realize that a series isn’t as good as you remember. Genuinely one of my biggest fears lol

    I'm harsher than you, then! 😅 I didn't much like Soloist in a Cage, and my niece hated the ending of Orange so I didn't continue reading it. 😂 Glad you enjoyed it though.

    • @tonireadsmanga
      @tonireadsmanga  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can actually understand why someone wouldn’t like the ending of Orange even though it’s a “happy” one. One of the characters is very self-sacrificing and it’s pretty unbelievable that a real person would act like that.

    • @queeniechandotcom
      @queeniechandotcom 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tonireadsmanga My niece argued that the ending of "Orange" rendered all that went before meaningless - she just thought it wasn't true to the first part of the story. I only read the first part so I don't know.
      And I liked Panorama of Hell too. Old-school horror manga had much more blatant anti-war messages, something that I think has been lost from more modern horror.
