Superb. Wurtz is an engaging, elegant performer. She gets the spirit and music just right. The part at 22 is magic. It is Mozart at his surprising best and perfectly played.

Hands down the best performance I've ever heard of this piece. Every note has the perfect amount of space around it.

Klara Wurtz is a superb pianist and I followed her in all piano compositions of Mozart. As a lover and a mozartian I think she is an excellent and very talented pianist. The Larghetto of Piano Quintet is dreamy and the combination of the wind instruments in this piece is unique since Mozart is an unrepeatable genius.

I honestly never thought I'd hear a recording of this I preferred to the classic Phillips recording with Alfred Brendel, Heinz Holliger, Hermann Baumann, Klaus Thunemann, and Eduard Brunner. I was wrong. What a brilliant peformance. Ms Würtz, you have a clarity of phrasing and touch that is truly breathtaking.

Immer wieder begeisternd diese Aufnahme von KV 452. Köchel nennt das Stück den Triumph reinsten Wohlklanges. Danke dafür.

My only complaint with the Philips recording is that Heinz Holliger's tone doesn't blend well with the other and he always sticks out. His musicality is, as always, impeccable but I wish he could blend with his colleagues as well as Mr Meyer does here.

It is amazing how different sets of ensembles/orchestras can have a different impact on the flavour of a piece of music. I dare not say who is better than others, but I know this piece well, and it is played at a pace and cohesion, which gives it unusually sweet listening. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Thank you for the posting -- one of my favorite pieces, and such a performance, nicely shot too!
"...to help obtain for the za2ju4 [ 雜劇 ] its rightful place of esteem among the permanent achievements that lighten the record of mankind." Those are the final 21 words in a dissertation entitled 'Chinese Aria Studies' (E. Bruce Brooks, 1968, University of Washington). I've been carrying that volume around with me ever since 1971; today I finally had a look at page 177, where that concluding sentence made quite an impression on me. And now, having come across this posting, I felt it would go nicely with your perfect performance (but not with Mozart himself -- he wasn't from around here).

So right you are. This piece has so many elements of an 18th century comic opera. ".....lighten the record of mankind."" 原文是啥?I prefer the old German performance with Hermann Tottcher playing oboe? 您觉得怎么样?

    • @Verschlungen

@@chinalib57 Thank you for responding to the weird comment I posted 3 years ago. (I don't know why I went off on the tangent about Chinese arias.) Anyway, listening again to this incredible ensemble of Würtz + Netherlands Wind Soloists, what I noticed this time is that the horn player (van de Merwe) achieves what I think of as "the Dennis Brain snarl," for lack of a better term (e.g., at 14:02 and 14:10); it's a delicious sound that most horn players don't even know exists (nor could they probably achieve it even if they did know about it). All five of those musicians seem to be 'channeling' Mozart himself in that performance. I cannot imagine a better rendition of K452. Even when compared against the Gieseking recording circa 1955, which has Brain on French horn, these Netherlands Wind musicians and Würtz are just phenomenal I think -- creating a new 'gold standard' for K452 that is not likely to be surpassed anytime soon.
(As for the recording with Töttcher on oboe, in response to your query [您觉得怎么样?] I tried a bit of it, but I have to say I found it literally unlistenable. I'd like to give Helmut, Töttcher, Geuser, Blank and Fugmann the benefit of the doubt for an adequate performance maybe [?], but the sound engineer ruined whatever it was they did, making the four wind instrument sonorities unrecognizable as such.)

Lovely performance! To complement the fantastic wind sound the recording could have done with a better piano with a better sound though...Poor Klara, truly through no fault of her own, sounds a bit like she is drumming on a tin bathtub.... :(

@@curtcarlson8312Wow!...that is a long time ago (my comment that is). Thank you for your reaction...Listened to the recording again just now to see if I was mistaken or too harsh... But, nope. Still stand by my original comment. This is also strengthened by my experiences of playing this piece myself (as a pianist); I feel the recording balance between piano and wind-ensemble is slightly off in this recording resulting in the piano being pushed to the background to such an extent that certain question-and-answer elements - specifically those intended by Mozart in this piece to be between piano and the ensemble-as-a-whole - fall flat and become less interesting, almost glossed over...the piano - in my opinion - has a bigger role in this piece than it is allowed in this recording...You clearly see (hear) that differently than me, so I would be interested to hear your view on it...

@@piusottovoce I can see your point. Maybe having them all sitting in one line across, who knows. But the balance is definitely out of whack.
