    Good reminder that I’ve only scratched the surface on my HXFX. Best bit of gear (pedal wise) that I’ve ever bought!

    I consider the HXFX to be the digital brain of my analog pedalboard. I am able to route my pedals through it, change my signal path, and generally cover a lot of bases with a small footprint. After your Andy Timmons video the other day, I just dialed those Crisscross settings into my HX, and I was off to the races. The only thing I desire would be additional fx loops, so that it could be a bypass looper for my drive pedals, but I am not sure if anyone would want to spend that kind of money just for an fx processor.

    Had an HX Effects 2x. It's a really good piece of kit. Add a Tonex One and an inexpensive DI and you have a better solution than a Stomp.

    • @Theseriousbeatle
      @Theseriousbeatle 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      what do the tonex one and a DI do for you when playing live? how do they help?

    • @lanceholland
      @lanceholland 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@Theseriousbeatle The HX FX has no amps, so the Tonex One is an easy way to get amp sounds. The reason you want to use a DI with a Tonex One is that a mixing board wants to see a balance signal output from your guitar. A Tonex One, like most guitar gear has unbalanced outputs. A balance signal will give the strongest/lowest noise signal to the mixing board and allow a longer cable run without signal degradation. As said, DIs are inexpensive so adding that to a Tonex One/HX FX is a great way to have a live rig with adequate switches for effects.
      As a side note, I also have an HX Stomp. but prefer the Tonex One amp sound to the HX amp models. The Stomp has balanced outputs and doesn't require a DI but you need converter cable(s) to go from 1/4" TRS to XLR. But, the Stomp only has the 3 switches so it's not great for live playing unless you add some external switches via MIDI. You can pair a Stomp with a Tonex One by putting the Tonex One in the effects loop of the Stomp.

      @@lanceholland Thanks for your insights! I'm thinking about setting up a similar rig (HX Stomp and Nano Cortex, where I'll be using the Stomp to manage the signal change and for pre- and post-effects. The Nano Cortex will be used as my amp/cab)... just wondering if you see any major advantages/disadvantages between using the HX Stomp vs the HX Effects for the role of signal change management and effects?

    • @lanceholland
      @lanceholland 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nikhilnarahari8424 with the Stomp, you get balanced outputs so there’s no DI needed to go to the FOH (assuming this is for live use). On the HXFX, you get more buttons to turn on/off effects. Sound wise, they’re about the same quality. It really depends what your need is. If the get the Stomp, you at least want an external 2-button switch ($20 Ampero is great). Or some MIDI switch to add foot switches.

    0:00 I’d love to see a “choosing the right gear for the gig” video or series where you select the best gear for different types of gigs, depending on factors like venue size, silent stage required, floor monitors provided or not, music style, etc. I’ve had to learn all this the hard way - through (sometimes bad) experience.

    I’m building a rig dual amp in a combo chasis, and the effects is the main point, also an stereo od and fuzz that I made myself. The amp is a avt275 and a MKI simplifier only for the preamp side

      What do you think the upsides are? Thinking of DSP, switching, power supplies, expression pedal, less to go wrong (although less redundancy also) and price, I struggle to see the advantage of Stomp plus HXFX

      @chrispygingerpie 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Arthur_My_Dear I have the dunlop mini expression pedal, but if I want to assign it to a pedal it means I can't have both switches for the stomp. However I can use it on the HXFX instead. also it does Stereo so I have save DSP on my Stomp for Duel Amps.

    Great job. I have the HX Effects. Do you or did you edit thoes together on the computer or do you edit on the unit? You're using some features I haven't tried to use. Mix button for example. Make more HX Effects content and presents. HX Effects with ToneX or Iruidium and the EndGame. Please make that. 😅 10:44

    My HX FX is my central hub of my Rig. Guitar-> Tilt OD -> ODD (always on as edge of breakup) -> HXFX in 4cm into my REVV d25. The added clarity from 4cm just blew me away last week. After 8 months of everything normal into the front. One thing I love is the snapshots. Never got along with the somewhat limiting factor of channels in Fractal world. But then I gigged a Helix with two FRFRs since 2018 until last year.
    It’s a killer rig. Small stages. Big stages. Any sounds I need.

    I love my 5150 III and the HX Effects is perfect with it. I am hoping that someday L6 update it to use all 6 switches for 6 Snapshots. Similar to the HX Stomp having 3 switches and 3 Snapshots.

    • @bruunm1975
      @bruunm1975 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes more than four snaps would be nice. I’m using command centre for 3 snaps at the bottom and 3 on/offs at the top. I can get through 3 bands with that setup and have 4 main patches. Only difference is some have ambient Snap in the middle on bottom row. Other have a more pub rock drive sound. And top row I switch out if it’s a fuzz or chorus pedal I need or octave instead of Trem etc. the rest is unchanged for consistency.

  • @thomaswhudson
    @thomaswhudson 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Ok my big question, with me owning a tonex and tonex min, would it make the most sense to go for the hx effects to complete the setup? I have been toiling over hx stomp, quad cortex, HX floor etc. This seems like a solid idea and cheaper. Thoughts?

    I would like to set my system up so that I have the guitar going through an EQ into the HX. The signal then immediately goes out and in the effects loop going through some external overdrives and preamps that are MIDI controlled. Then it goes through the onboard effects and then the wet signal goes to the stereo outputs to a left and right Boss Katana 100 Mk2 head and 212 cabinet. I would like to take the dry signal from the preamps and route it from the HX to a center amp which is a Marshall JCM800. Is there a way to set up the second effects loop so it sends that dry signal out but doesn't interrupt the entire signal chain if there is nothing coming into the return?

    HX Effect & HX Stomp together is an amazing combination. But the HX Effects froze on me during one gig: it would not respond to anything, even after a restart. I found out that more people had this expierence. After that I switch to using two HX stomps.

      I love my HX Effects, but I live in terror of it developing 'Line6 disease' - and quitting on me mid-gig like my old M5 used to do. My pedal board has the HX Effects and a couple of other digital pedals in a loop, sitting between an analogue preamp (Victory V1 Copper) and a Power Amp/Cab Sim (Two Notes CAB M+). This way, I can take the HX Effects out of my signal chain with one footswitch, so I've still got a basic guitar tone to work with.
