    You forgot to mention that while the nether gold ore block can be fortuned for more nuggets, if you accquire it with the silk touch and then smelt the ore block, you get a a whole ingot. The epdisode was great, totally obsessed!

      @@littlegnome5219 I've found that, on average, using Silk Touch & smelting the ore block gives you more gold ingots than using Fortune III, since it's not guaranteed that you'll get at least 9 nuggets per block.

      I just picked up Minecraft at 41 to play with my kids, and I can't believe how immersive this game is. And it's a great way to spend time with the kids; first they helped me discover game mechanics and tactics, and now we're discovering new things together. How's your playthrough going?

    the "choose your own adventure" is a really nice name for that kinda book XD
    I love that they're in the game, the book looks so confused but it's a fun mechanic that adds some choice to enchanting plus it's always funny when you get one like it from fishing. It's a deeply metagame'd side of minecraft otherwise, gotta admit

    Thank you for all of your tips. You have created a series that is useful for both beginners and seasoned players. Also, even though this is a 1.20 series, you did not immediately run for cherry wood, like seemingly everyone else has, which is why nice change of pace these days.

    • @Pixlriffs
      @Pixlriffs  ปีที่แล้ว +103

      Yeah, it’d be tempting to go after all the new stuff straight away, but I haven’t planned for cherry wood in any of these builds yet! And this guide is really meant to be an “evergreen” reference for the future, so I’m not looking to get those 1.20 hype views - my focus is on providing something people can come back to, like a living encyclopaedia.

    • @BooksMusicMe17
      @BooksMusicMe17 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@PixlriffsIf you are looking into incorporating cherry wood at some point but want a more original concept that would still blend in with the rest of your base, may I suggest you look up "Suffolk pink"? Basically lots of Tudor houses were originally pale pink, not white, and I think the stripped cherry logs make a really good approximation of the colour. The historian in me has always wanted to see it done in Minecraft and since they're timber-framed buildings, they would fit the style of your starter builds!

    Just an FYI regarding nether quartz, unlike many other items that you can combine to create blocks (IE: bonemeal > bone blocks) if you create quartz blocks you can't break them down again back to nether quartz to create repeaters/comparitors etc for redstone components, where you can trade with villagers for the blocks themselves, so early game if you want to make redstone items, it's best to keep the quartz for that and trade with villagers for the quarts building blocks.

    • @Pigborg

    This is super interesting in the difference between Bedrock and Java. I'm playing on the same seed, and my overworld is a bit different but mainly just caves are different shapes, it's mostly the same. However, I placed my portal in the same place in the overworld (give or take 3 or so blocks) and appeared right next to a fortress, under a blaze spawner and half the fortress is in the warped forest. The fortress also traverses a Crimson forest and the Nether wastes. But I have not yet found a basalt delta biome. I'm gonna go explore a bit towards the equivalent cords in my world to your portal, and see if it's just off by a small amount and the majority of the difference is infact the Nether scale. Really enjoying this series, I'm impatient though so have made a fair few automatic farms already but otherwise am just following the same progress

    Heya pixlriffs I like watching your content as its helped me learn a lot more about minecraft I also enjoy watching the hermitcraft recap as well! I also wanted to give a bonus tip on nether portals as when I build my portal frame I use cobble for the corners so I have enough for an enchant table too keep up the rawrsome content.

    A behind-the-scenes question for you, Pix. Do you know plan out the episodes you're going to do in order? Or is it more along the lines of "Whatever I'm in the mood to do" at that moment?

    • @Pixlriffs
      @Pixlriffs  ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I have a vague idea of what topics I want to cover when, but every Minecraft world feels better when you adapt to your environment. We’d obviously have covered jungle temples way earlier if we started in a jungle, for example.

      I'd highly recommend listening to his Minecraft podcast the Spawn Chunks for behind-the-scenes on the survival guide.
      However, from what I've seen and heard from watching 3 seasons, he has an overarching plan based on the natural mincraft progression - its a more accessible order for newer players - and large personal goals and projects. His to-do list is tailored towards these, "before the End I need Blaze rods, before building anywhere else I need a nether hub, etc".
      Anything specific he does I assume is based on his mood (a happier mindset leads to more entertaining content), except for this early game stage which is already pretty well defined.

      @@PixlriffsThanks! I've been playing Minecraft for a while, but there's still tons I don't know. I still make my houses like matchboxes with an internal layout like a microwave dinner 😅. Your Survival Guide series, all of them, are a blessing. Thank you!

    You can use splash bottles of water in the nether to put yourself out if you're on fire. Very useful tool for an item that doesn't seem very useful

    One thing I only found out recently trying a Nether start challenge is that you can actually break nether gold ore with a wooden pickaxe and you don't need an iron one like you need for the ore in stone in the overworld. This is actually required for progression without finding iron/gold in a chest in a bastion or nether fortress. You craft your wooden tools from the warped/crimson fungus, use that to get gold for a piece of armor and to make gold ingots and then trade those with piglins and they can give you iron, obsidian and fire charges. Breaking gravel in the nether gets you flit of course so you have two ways to light a nether portal should you get traded enough obsidian to make the portal in the first place.
    However, the amount of obsidian piglins trade tends to be quite low and this was the most tedious part of the challenge. Overall I don't think I'll be doing this challenge again soon, but it was nice to do once and it helped me learn something new about the game.

    You find the most interesting and fortunate spots to Nether into. :) I always end up one of the wastes and immediately burden by ghasts, save the one time I entered a new one and was assailed by skeletons shooting arrows at me through the portal, back into the over world. lol

    It must be so exciting to see the Nether for the first time for players who start playing the game in Minecraft 1.16 and higher because of how cool it looks now compared to us who back in 2012 when I started you went into the Nether and there was just the really ugly texture of the Nether rack for miles and that was it, 1.16 is still one of my favorite updates ever.

    could you mention the really high enchantability that gold armor has in the next episode? its useful to know especially for beginners in the nether for the first time until you get better enchants on diamond armor in the future

  • @waveclaw
    @waveclaw ปีที่แล้ว

    Good introduction to the Nether and it's bountiful resources and equally bountiful dangers.
    There may be closer Bastions and Fortresses on this seed, but I didn't find any near the portal from the starter house. The Fortress in the video may be the closest.
    There are some if you go in the direction of that Basalt Delta and through the Warped Forrest beyond it. The Stryders with saddles can be ridden around the huge pools to find some Bastions and Fortresses much further away. Hopefully Stryders will be a topic in the future as they can make for very fast travel around the Nether.

    Just a note, another aspect of the nether "woods" is that they can't be used as fuel. Being from the nether, they're fireproof.

    My youngling has been watching Pix for a while now and she is 16 but developmentally around 8 (she was a premature birth) and she says Pix is a good minecraft teacher and one of her favorites! So if im not around to help her she goes to Pix for minecraft help, so thank you Pix!
    As for me....For the last year every time i start a new world my nether spawn is always the basalt delta which has become as annoying as the world starts spawning me either in the snow or jungle.

    I'm loosely following along with this season in one of my singleplayer worlds, and I also got a Nether spawn with a warped forest close! And did enough exploration to get the biome advancement and Return To Sender! (although all four ghasts I killed on my adventure were over lava, sadly, so no ghast tears for me yet...) Haven't found a fortress yet though, that must be that Survival Guide luck lol.
