@@joshuasmith2486 it makes me think of the Dr. Stone anime. Modern civilization collapsed, resulting in a new yet primitive civilization to take shape (the villagers and pillagers) then suddenly some mysterious person appears seemingly knowing all the lost ways of the world, able to built highly advanced structures, harness the powers of redstone, and restructuring the world with almost god-like ability.
Also occasionally you’ll find shipwrecks washed up completely on the beach, often more of those are buried in sand. I’ve actually found an intact, upright shipwreck buried completely in the sand excluding the masts on two occasions. Very cool!
Yes! These are actually my favorite shipwrecks to find. I usually set up a campsite nearby and turn the whole thing into a dig site. It turns out we had archeology in the game the whole time. 😅
I just realized that, at least in the early episodes, you always click and drag items around from chests and in your inventory instead of shift clicking or using hot keys, just like a new player would do. I think that's so welcoming, instead of doing things really fast like an experienced player would that a new player wouldn't necessarily be able to follow, or would be turned off from because they don't know what you're doing or how you're doing it. It just shows how much thought you put into the experiences of new players and how to familiarize them with the game without overwhelming them with information. 😊

Seems like the perfect episode to start the week with, considering recent news. Thankfully, diving deep in Minecraft is a lot easier than in real life apparently.
For anyone playing Bedrock, I have a useful tip when it comes to map! Just make the cartography table first, because then you can put 1 paper in it and obtain an empty map! Add a compass to it and Ta-da! You got an empty locator map! It saves a lot of ressources, especially if they are scarce!
It’s funny how i have seen tens of tutorials about maps, and i never understood them. Here i am, learning how maps work from a random let’s play that doesn’t even have that purpose in particular. Wow, it is great
I would highly recommend you to anyone who is starting Minecraft for the first your videos are so descriptive and very easy to understand you deserve every single subscriber my friend your knowledge of the game is unreal
The wandering trader is great as you can get every tree sapling from them if there’s a biome you can’t find or is too far away. I like to buy my coral from them too.
Coral is definitely a good trade if you don't want to decimate a warm ocean to get some. Red sand is another decent buy since it is far more scarce than regular sand. On peaceful, the slime ball trade is invaluable as well.
There are actually two more uses for diamonds, that are often overlooked. One is trading with villagers, though the exchange rate is 1:1, so really not worth it unless you have an automated way to mine diamonds and don’t know what to do with them anymore. The other use is crafting a bit more fancy fireworks than your regular rockets. Those are consumed when used, so also a use you really want to make sure you want.
I decided to stop playing Minecraft even before 1.20 released date. but because of this series haish i am again indeed encouraged to start a new world and so far its doing better than before. thank you pix and geminitay and wattles for giving me hope! I'm a big fan of maps, starting from when I used to play bedrock on the Xbox. If you check 'starting map' in bedrock during world creation, it gives you a size '3' map (equivalent of expanding three times in java). I got used to having one, so it's one of the first things I do once I have enough iron and redstone to spare in Java. You didn't cover duplicating maps, yet! That's important if you're a big map user, so you can share with a buddy or have a map up at home while you carry around the copy. There's also banners for marking places.
You can eliminate the guesswork when digging for buried treasure, since they always spawn in the (9, Y, 9) location in the chunk, and you can see your coordinates in the F3 menu
I've found an igloo near the house, I think South. It's well hidden and has a really special basement. Also, since I haven't found moss yet, I've used the cherry blocks instead, and the roof starts to send little particles in the house like it does with the trees.
As someone who only started playing minecraft on version 1.16.5, which is fairly late in the progression of the game, I can't call myself an oldschool player, but neither would I call myself a noob. I do call myself mostly a technical survival player and I have to say that Pix's survival guide doesn't teach me much new stuff, it does remind me of the things I easily forget after having spent a lot of time in my own worlds, both offline and on my servers. Big up to mr. Riffs!!!
Shipwrecks are one of my favourite things in Minecraft! Usually the first thing I do in a new world these days is to craft a boat and find the nearest ocean to explore, before I even have any gear. I can then gear up as I go, because shipwrecks give you food, armour, iron, everything you need early on (except wood and cobblestone). Of course I do use a bundle datapack which helps a lot with the clutter that you end up picking up.
I've also finally learned my lesson with ocean ruins. As tempting as it is, it's just not worth going into those too early. It's just too risky. I can deal with one trident guy, I can now usually even deal with two trident guys at the same time, but sometimes there are three or more.
@@syystomu lol I'm guessing you play Java. Bedrock, tridents do 6 hearts of damage. Even with armor, 2 to 3 hts from a trident is death. ONE trident guy is bad enough; two is just respawn.
I'm so glad this episode was about shipwrecks and trims. Ivetbeen playing on this same seed and have been holding back to avoid spoilers. I found the 2 shipwrecks early on and got 4 trims🥰
I actually found a buried shipwreck a couple weeks ago that appears to be COMPLETELY intact and upright! It had all 3 chests and I've started a project to dig it out since it's such a cool specimen
I’m wondering if he’s going to be able to do a copper aging episode without immediately building a David. Lol Hard to imagine Pix laying out copper to age anymore.
Worth noting that the buried chest is always at the chunk coordinate x: 9 and z:9 so basically line that up using the the f3 toggle and all you have to do is go straight down.
You can also just count 7 blocks diagonal from the southeast corner of the chunk (I think it's SE) and dig down, if you're on Bedrock and don't have chunk-relative coordinates, or would prefer not to use the F3 screen.
I’ll definitely cover this method in a future video, but I didn’t want to take some of the magic out of digging for buried treasure this early in the series.
Tip for making maps: put 1 piece of paper in a cartography table To make locator maps, add the compass and then duplicate them by putting empty maps in the 2nd slot
When looking at the map you should also mention the F3 and g key, to see the grids. Would help represent the map lines, to show say if you wanted to build on the edge of a map for purpose.
I like to keep a clock on the wall of any zombie/skeleton spawn farm I've built. That way I can sleep to maximize the spawn rates, and not worry about any surface spawns taking up the mob cap. As for the armor trims, I prefer the simpler ones, like coastal. Easier to get, and they aren't as busy looking.
When looking for a buried treasure you can align yourself near the x, press f3, look at your chunk coordinates and position yourself so that your chunk coordinates are x=9, y=itdoesntmatter, z=9. Buried treasures are guaranteed to always spawn there. another tip is that some items in the game can be replaced with mods. some are night vision being replaced by fullbright (i recommend boosted brightness or tweakeroo), spyglasses being replaced by zoom mods (i recommend essential because it has other good features), and maps being replaced by world map mods (i recommend xaero’s world map and minimap because they work well together).
Loving the new season! If it’s structures week then I wonder if you’ve found the somewhat out of place structure in a snowy biome not far from your house yet?
If you have enabled the Experimental features on Java to have bundles, a clock and doors will fit in a bundle. The clock will continue to tell the time properly. And you can pull the doors out for a quick air pocket under water. For those complaining about the map edge messing with their bases, build using the chunk layout to avoid that. Press the keys F3 and B on Java to show chunk boundaries. Align to those to avoid messy map problems. On Bedrock? Good luck.
Maybe it’s the remnants of all those ships that were looking to infiltrate that cool water cave you found near the side of the mountain where there’s definitely some treasure or cursed loot
Fun fact: On Bedrock Edition seeds, Strongholds and Buried Treasure Chests are MORE frequent than on Java Edition. Of course the trade-off is that Java Edition seeds has more Nether Fortresses, Woodland Mansions and Ocean Monuments than Bedrock. If you check out your seed on Chunk Base, you can definitely tell the difference in terms of structures on both editions. The reason why Strongholds are more frequent on Bedrock is pretty much HOW they're generated. Java generates Strongholds based on distance from your World Spawn and the distance is pretty much on sectors of circles with 8 circles in total and a total of 128 Strongholds can generate within 25,000 blocks in ANY direction from World Spawn. The most amount of Strongholds on one of those rings is 36 on the 7th ring which is roughly 20,000 blocks. It goes like this; 3, 6, 10, 15, 21, 28, 36 and 9. Bedrock Edition doesn't have that limitation and can spawn practically randomly... but the tip with Bedrock Edition's Strongholds is that they usually generate under some Villages and sometimes poking out on the Ocean Surface. The Spiral Staircase is typically what is used as the beginnings of how it is generated, which means that having a Stronghold generated without the End Portal Room is quite rare. Bedrock's Strongholds can generate anywhere below ground without no limit. Java is limited and strict on Stronghold generations.
Very timely for me - I’ve been exploring new 1.20 areas in my world and have already found several smithing templates in pillager outposts, ocean ruins, and shipwrecks, and have been wondering what to do with them. 😊
3:20 Useless comment: Thats actually 2 ships mixed, seems to happen when a shipwreck generates between 2 chunks. I've found a 3 shipmix one and It might be possible to find one of 4 ships. I dont know, but i found it cool
Spoiler below - coordinates for a complete ship near Pixl’s base. Could be made into Pirate ship maybe? XYZ -2229, 65, -152. You will be amazed by how it looks!
@@Dinki-Di Indeed! Never in my many years of playing Minecraft have I found a shipwreck that looked like someone built in in place! Was looking for a better place to put up a Nether portal that isn’t in a basalt area and stumbled in it. Alas no luck with the portal thou, still generated in the basalt hellhole!
That one's great! Right in the middle of a bunch of villages, too. Good place for a base. I'm thinking I'll set up a nether portal there eventually and maybe set up a trading hall over there.
A game I left a couple months ago (I should go back), also had a "Shipwreck District". (3+ shipwrecks in a small area) lol (also a couple sunken structures/ towers) A couple of those ships were (almost) completely intact & on the beach. :) I was actually thinking about making a couple "suburbs" of the coastal village I was using nearby, to build some "naval shipyards" around the ships. (like they are preparing for their maiden voyage / being completed)
We'll cover the "9,9" trick in a future episode, but in the early stages of the game here I didn't want to ruin the fun of digging for buried treasure.
Something that I always do is make sure that I broke the hidden treasure chest, is something that I least to my experience prevents that this particular chest doesn't come up on other treasure maps in the future
I never knew the maps were grid based, I always wondered how TH-camrs got it to line up so well when it looked like they were just clicking anywhere lol
Would have thought that you would talk about the villager cartographer block with your map making- using the table to make a map only uses one paper instead of eight
Can you still upgrade armor that already has been trimmed, e.g. to Netherite? I haven't played around with armor trims myself, yet, but this is the one thing I wonder the most when it comes to trims and how upgrading Diamon armor now works.
Yes, it is still possible to upgrade trimmed Diamond armour to Netherite. It should keep any trim designs that were applied to it before the upgrade. Upgrading to Netherite now requires a separate Smithing Template though, you'll find it in Piglin bastions. We'll cover that in future, although probably not this week!
You did miss the third function of the cartography table, cloning: If you put a map into the table (either partially explored, fully explored, or locked...I'm not sure if it works with the special maps like Buried Treasure) along with an empty map, you end up with two copies of the map in it's current state.
True, but I'm pretty sure it works the same way in the crafting table too. So while it would've been a good idea to show how to duplicate maps, I don't think it's a unique function of the cartography table. Kinda like how you can repair two unenchanted tools in a grindstone, which is also possible in a 2x2 or 3x3 crafting grid
Treasure maps are fantastic. For 1.20, I decided to try making a mega map for the first time. Treasure maps are like a free resource that is also in character because it's a puzzle. Where did this map take me? How does it fit into my world map?
Wow!!! In my Bedrock version of this seed, that first ship wreck you find is floating about 10 blocks out of the water and upside down with only about a third of the boat there and no chest!!!
in my survival world i found a shipwreck that was completely buried in sand and stone. from ground level it just looked like two oak logs sticking out of a beach. it had three chests with some pretty good loot, but sadly no armor trims
I wanted to go kill one of those llamas for the leads, then use the lead on the other llama and tame it, then put a chest on it and see how many items it could hold. Am I a bad minecrafter to think this way? Possibly, but that's one way to gets leads. Stay frosty!
Did you see the commentary and video on trader llamas? You can make a boat and put the llamas in it to get the leeds without killing them. Using the leed on the llama will take it back out of the boat. Llamas are easy to tame while in a boat, unlike horses, donkeys or mules. Those creatures won't get in boats on Java edition. You can slowly farm up max-carry-size trader llamas this way. The trader llamas have unique skins when carpets are placed on them. They also count toward breeding creatures if you use hay blocks on them. They do spit at hostile mobs, so beware that they can suicide themselves against pillager patrols or well-armored skeletons.
Is the cartography table not useful in Java edition? Instead of paying that much paper for a map, pay 2 for a cartography table and the just one per map
I believe on Java Edition the loot is always the same if you use the same world seed, but last time I played Bedrock Edition the loot was different on two worlds with the same seed. So it depends which version of the game you’re playing!
I know armor trims are new in this version of Minecraft however can you still add netherite to your armor if you were only to upgrade from diamond to netherite???
Not quite sure what you’re asking here - you can upgrade your diamond armour to Netherite, but it now requires a smithing template along with the Netherite ingot. Moving from diamond to Netherite keeps the same armour trim though :)
@@Pixlriffs you know before the 1.20 when you want to upgrade from diamond to netherite you needed the smithing table to and put your armor in it and a single netherite ingot to upgrade it to a netherite armor without having a template

To find treasure chests, a.nice tip is to check the 9, 9 chuni coordinates
I’ll definitely cover this method in a future video, but I didn’t want to take some of the magic out of digging for buried treasure this early in the series.
The 9x9 Chunk coordinate method only works on Java edition. It can be a real pain finding treasure in Bedrock
@@beng7845it works on bedrock too, but as we don't have the same detailed co-ordinate info within a chunk, you have to do the maths
@@Pixlriffs ok,cool
Oh! I didn't know that
A map update could be so cool... Imagine how many tools it could use, like centering a map, snapshots, interacting with redstone...
Getting banner markers in maps in Bedrock would be nice!
Tip for making maps: put 1 piece of paper in a cartography table
To make locator maps, add the compass and then duplicate them by putting empty maps in the 2nd slot
Thank you so much for this series!
So glad diamonds have a decent use past mid game now with the new trims❤
When looking at the map you should also mention the F3 and g key, to see the grids. Would help represent the map lines, to show say if you wanted to build on the edge of a map for purpose.
Me to wife: babe, wake up, it’s 5 am and Pix is talking maps, shipwrecks, and armor trims.
My wife: can you sign these divorce papers?
I don't think Pixl is interested in that right now.. :-)
Wake up babe, new survival guide episode just dropped
Love the vids pix 🤘
What if we don't want to use mods and play on bedrock? This is why videos like this are helpful to more people.
@@urfaes6878 why play on bedrock though
yay! im so excited for this week
Very educational and informative video, Thanks pix
This tutorial series is very beginner friendly
thank you for the seabed joke 😂
Loving the new season! If it’s structures week then I wonder if you’ve found the somewhat out of place structure in a snowy biome not far from your house yet?
Yeah, I spotted it on stream! Might check it out on Thursday/Friday if it has what I think it has 👀
@@Pixlriffs I won’t spoil it for you! The seed is great, by the way - so glad I decided to play along on the same map.
Ecletic armor indeed, Pix!
i just want to say that i love your videos
Love your episodes Pixlriffs, however, compared to previous seasons you are wrapping up things faster in this season.
Oh yeah, Structure Week Hype!
3:20 Useless comment:
Thats actually 2 ships mixed, seems to happen when a shipwreck generates between 2 chunks.
That's the one off the coast of the Savannah village, isn't it? I've used it to make an additional base camp. It's a very cool location.
Happy survival guide all!
A game I left a couple months ago (I should go back), also had a "Shipwreck District". (3+ shipwrecks in a small area) lol
(also a couple sunken structures/ towers)
A couple of those ships were (almost) completely intact & on the beach. :)
I was actually thinking about making a couple "suburbs" of the coastal village I was using nearby, to build some "naval shipyards" around the ships. (like they are preparing for their maiden voyage / being completed)
I appreciate not using the "cheaty" method of F3 to look at chuck position, but it's a good mention for a tutorial let's play.
I'm pretty sure that has been disproven many times since treasure maps were added.
ur just the goat tbh
one thing i learned from speed runners: burried treasure always spawns at 9,9 chunk coords. Makes it easier to find it
Are gold trims able to pacify piglins?
No.
Drats....
Well, yes...if they happen to be on gold armor pieces. Otherwise no.
You can also place mobs on boats, so you can now finally have chicken on a (bamboo) raft in minecraft
I never knew the maps were grid based, I always wondered how TH-camrs got it to line up so well when it looked like they were just clicking anywhere lol
god bless thank u for this survival guide upload
Would have thought that you would talk about the villager cartographer block with your map making- using the table to make a map only uses one paper instead of eight
Such Fashion 👌
@@Pixlriffs Hmmm. Point, though a quick mention of how to duplicate maps would still have been useful.
Treasure maps are fantastic. For 1.20, I decided to try making a mega map for the first time. Treasure maps are like a free resource that is also in character because it's a puzzle. Where did this map take me? How does it fit into my world map?
That ship door provides air as well.
This good 👍
Pixlriffs if you add a gold template on other materials piglins in the nether will still accept it and won’t attack you
Is the cartography table not useful in Java edition? Instead of paying that much paper for a map, pay 2 for a cartography table and the just one per map
Shipwrecks are very topical right now
God I love Structures Week
Guardians are truly fishy. In more sense than one
Pixl your videos should be longer. They are so cool… thanks for the entertaining content
How do you go into creative on Java edition. I’m normally a bedrock player, and I just got Java, so I’m still trying to figure out everything.
Either use the command /gamemode or hold f3 and click f4 to toggle in a menu
if you play on the same seed does that mean that the loot will be exact the same or every world generates his own loot ?
I believe on Java Edition the loot is always the same if you use the same world seed, but last time I played Bedrock Edition the loot was different on two worlds with the same seed. So it depends which version of the game you’re playing!
@@Pixlriffs thanks for the reply. I play on java so the loot must be the same
What happens if you spyglass on optifine zoom?
If you copy the map you can live update a map without messing up your map wall.
Just thought of this, if you have a gold trim on your diamond armor, will piglins still get upset at you or does that count as wearing gold armor?
Gold trim does not count as wearing gold armor.
@@joshuabishop909 since this video i have looked it up online and it says it does, but i have yet to try it in game
Oh, right. You need an upgrade template now. They're in piglin bastions.
@@Pixlriffs ok ty
I though the loot in treasures was always random. Im playing in the same seed and found that Shipwreck a few days ago and im pretty sure it had the same ítems!
