I'm just imagining that one of the first thing that child heard is " hello everyone my name is pixelriffs and welcome back to another episode of the Minecraft Survival Guide"
I think this is the first time I've seen it properly explained WHY soul sand valleys specifically have the manipulated spawning rules that makes everyone look for them for nether fortress farms like wither skeleton farms. It makes perfect sense that they wouldn't want a high concentration of ghasts in an area, and yet it never crossed my mind until now. Well done.
I'd noticed that nether fortresses in soul sand valleys had way more mob spawns than anywhere else but didn't know it was bc the way the biome itself worked! That's super cool!
I’ve been playing along in my own version of this world and stumbled across that on my first Minecraft day while heading to the mountain that Pixlriffs has his base at. I’ve been looking forward to him discovering it because it was so unexpected in that location.
I missed that igloo spawn and went 4k south before finding one that was broken. On the plus side of boating and walking and riding all the way to +4,000 Z away I found some interesting things. About -450 X, 3904 Z is an 'unexpected' bit of Terracotta sticking out of the Snowy Taiga forest.
I know so much about Minecraft, having graduated from the previous series to watching Scicraft, but I still love watching every episode! It’s like hanging out with an old friend.
The world has been very kind to the series, with the amount of luck it's been giving you and how it doesn't feel like it's showing us things too early for what the survival guide's pace.
Pixlriffs has been using 'knowing my luck..' in reversed ways. Have you seen the other seasons? His luck is insane. Goes to nether.. steps into fortress. Randomly finds a rare panda. Gets trident in one hit. That kinda stuff
The actual term for the lava well is the nether hub of a fortress, and as such it is point at which the fortress generates from, and will lead to to all points of the rest of the fortress. This does not mean that all parts of a fortress will generate (as you have seen), just that all parts of the fortress will lead back to the nether hub from which it spawned.
Bizarre features like that are always the best! Arguably, that Igloo spawned at the extreme edge of a snow biome (I saw snow behind it). But really, what are the odds?
The dedication to build an ice house in a temperate forest is supreme lmao- I’m surprised its warm enough for the flowers to grow and the house to stay frozen.
I use Skizz’s scumpus in the fortress to find my way back to where I came in and I break the chests I open. Bringing a few signs as well can help guide you back to a blaze spawner if you’re in a fortress where it’s not immediately obvious where they are. My current fortress is almost completely buried so you can’t see the blaze from outside.
These videos really are the highlight of my day. I have had such a busy week and it's nice to sit down, relax, and watch some Minecraft survival guide. :)
Have I watched all the survival guides? Yes. Will I keep going? Also yes. Placing torches on one side so I know which way I came from was the best advice I got while starting and these are always so calming to watch. ❤❤❤
I love how these are perfectly timed into my 30minute study break for uni! But always just at before i go to bed i hop in on the streams and get a bit of behind the scenes and i love it thanks pix for the amazing content
Good introduction to fortresses, priority for loot management and the igloo cliff hanger. Ran that soul sand valley fortress for wither skeleton heads. I got ganged up by so many dropping from roofs and spawning behind me on unprotected paths it was crazy. I had to recover my armor from a team of wither skeletons that claimed them from my corpse explosion after that. It will make an easy wither farm for late game even with minimal intersections. Good find on the igloo in the flower forest. The next is 4k block south. The important part of that further igloo's generation got over written by yet another extensive abandoned mineshaft. Not everyday you see one floating mid-air, though.
I started a 1.20 world the same day Survival Guide 3 started. We are eerily near identical in the progression. I have a double skeleton and zombie xp farm. Sadly I didn't realize the zombie spawner was near until after I finished the skeleton spawner so I had to redesign. Normally I'd just ignore zombie spawners but i couldn't pass on this one as i had never done a double spawner before. Great content as always. Thanks!
I’m so glad you ALSO couldn’t find nether wart there! I thought I was crazy! But that intersection at the edge in the SS Valley is my wither skelly farm now so, win some, lose some. Oh and thanks for your season 2 wither skelly farm design! ❤
I don't know if I already knew that blazes could deal melee damage, but either way a nice piece of information to keep track of. Also I see why you didn't go to the soul sand fortress, mostly being the walkways, would mean you needed to go to another to mention the potential loot from the chest from the inside parts. Would make a good wither skull farm through.
This episode was packed with information I’m hearing for the first time. The lava room distinguishes inside and outside of the nether fortress? 🤯 And everything about the soul sand valley fortress having more hostile mobs spawning makes way more sense. Thanks Pix!
i just took on my first piglin bastion alone yesterday and i spent like 45 minutes clearing the structure and getting to the middle. whenever the bastion episode releases, i'll be watching and learning intently, because there's got to be a better way to raid them
I'm in my middle 30s and don't get chance to play much anymore. This is my comfort food. Love watching the gradual progression, reminds me of the wonder I felt when I first played.
That second nether fortress that was in soul sand valley is so perfect for farm like ianxofour's wither skelly farm. A thing that I struggle on my world lol
I actually didn't know that there was reduced mob spawning in soul sand valleys! I knew that soul sand valley fortresses were good for wither skeleton farms but I didn't know why. The only explanation I'd heard was "because zombie piglins won't spawn there" which didn't make much sense to me as a reason for there to be more fortress spawns. But a reduced spawn rate makes so much more sense, and it also makes sense that the point was to limit ghast spawning
I hated it when I first went to that soul sand fortress because so many blazes were attacking me. But there is a huge upside to that fortress: so many witter skeletons spawn there so I went there yesterday and with just one 8-minute fire resistance potion and looting 3 sword I got three witter skeleton skulls. It was really fast.
Its also an ideal candidate for turning into a fortress or pure wither skeleton farm. (Not sure if pix will get to that in this series, its not quite as intense as hermitcraft or empires)
This structure is perfect for ianxofour's fortress farm. It's fairly easy to make, too. You just need a _lot_ of materials and a moderately efficient pick.
Dude if you're playing in that world seed can you tell me the coordinates to that fortress? I always die or get lost whenever I try to enter the nether... Sadge...
@6:11 wow, thats some good luck on finding the Rib Armor Trim on your first chest in the first fortress... Either that or I have really bad luck. On Bedrock, I had to go thru 9 different fortress, clearing each one until I finally got 1.
I'm really enjoying this series. Going back to the basics seems like a risky move, but its turning out well. I have been playing minecraft since infancy and still learned a few things (water bucket to clear webs? Whaaaat?)

nice episode again pix - but one question about the fire resistance potion: what happens to your armor if you get hit by a blazes attack - or maybe you go into lava, while the effect is active? does it lose durability?
Fire Resistance prevents any fire damage to the player, and taking damage reduces your armour durability. If you don't take any damage, your armour doesn't break.
For the igloo, I believe it was u pix who taught us that ur supposed to replace the Redstone torch with a regular torch because when lighting was different the Redstone torch was to dark and would spawn stuff?? Anyway once u replace it the ice melts and floods the carpets showing off the trapdoor
