Which to further my point, since MK was Midway's property they could do what they wanted with. Whereas K.I. on the other hand probably had it so easily converted to the original Game Boy, because of it already being Nintendo's technology.
Rareware devs were just that good, everything they were touching turned into gold, even on such a limited console with 2 buttons, they were able to port a combo-heavy fighting game? Music sounds good, it plays well, graphics are good...wtf...how they did it?!
This really brings back memories. This was my first game on Gameboy and I played it so much. I remember playing Fulgore all the time because I thought he was just some ninja xD
I can't believe this port is actually a really good one from the graphics to the music. I was actually blown away by the music and how well it compares to the arcade. Now if you look at a lot of other ports like Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat they got nothing on this. This was a very well done conversion
Yeah strange huh isn’t ir,i don’t know how rareware did pull this off but it’s amezing, heck this version has even some paralax scrolling, now that’s mind blowing.
Man I remember having this game and a hell of a good Gameboy library Killer Instinct Super Mario Land Play Action Football Castlevania NBA Jam NBA Jam T.E. Primal Rage Operation C Battle Toads Metroid 2 Gargoyles Quest And of course Tetris Those great games are why the Gameboy is one of my favorite consoles of all time.
Andres Dardon No its not bad but it has its problems if you like the gameboy and if you can get this game for very cheap there is no problem but its nowhere near the snes version.
Andres Dardon *I would reccommend it, it is fun to play...at least it was fun when I was a kid but is almost the same as SNES. Instead of asking opinions try yourself, it's a classic.*
Hands down the best fighting game on the classic GB. It nailed the one thing the other fighting ports on the system didn't; fast, responsive gameplay and controls. The fact it did a pretty admirable job with the 8-bit music transfers and graphics didnt hurt either. You could pretty much play this with the same style and strategy as its big brothers without a hitch thanks to its excellent translation to the handheld.
Wish that had known about this version of Killer Instinct sooner, since I played the SNES version quite a bit. Defiantly going to get a copy down the road, since my original Gameboy library was pretty spartan in terms diversity of games.
This version might not be the most representive version,it looks more like pointing with an over exposured B&W camera to a tv and filming the snes version that way, that’s how it looks like, BUT it’s clear to me that this version rocks everything out of the gameboy, now if only they added all voices into this version, that would,ve been great as well.
This game was a great port, but it was also infinite city. If you knew how you could reset the linkers and auto doubles indefinitely. Chief Thunder’s was incredibly easy to do, and needless to say Eyedols was brain dead.
this game is so good, its not just good in GB standards ... its so well made, i just purchased KI for the SNES, and after like 15 years of not playing it, i was able to finish it thanks to my experience i had of playing this one. THAT'S HOW CLOSE IT IS TO CONVENTIONAL CONSOLE KI TITLES.
I'm surprises at just how good Rare was at remaking games like Killer Instinct and Donkey Kong Country into Gameboy games and have them still look very close to their 16-bit counterparts.
really fond memories of this game. i used to play with the thunder character, occasionally with orchid, although not as good as mortal kombat (arcade version) i still play it if im around that old arcade place in London
Nice, it actually looks fairly accurate to the SNES/arcade game. The graphics, and animations alone are very impressive for 8-bit B&W Gameboy standards, and reminisc of the Donkey Kong Land games. (Also by Rare.) It's pretty cool how they made some of the backgrounds feature parallax scrolling to, which is very hard to do on 8-bit systems.
icomp187 Ugh, I can't stand Spinal lol ... my least favorite. Cinder just had cheap moves, like you said, but wasn't an enduring favorite. Riptor's popularity seems to have risen over the years. Riptor was probably my personal favorite.
not a bad beat em up for the gameboy the music ain't bad yes the combos can be simple the characters are not bad it runs smoothly for a gameboy game can be hard to play if you don't time your moves right cause it can get hard as you fight different characters in later fights one of the better beat em up's for the gameboy i have had this game since it first come out still works fine don't play it as much as i used to but i give this game 8 out of 10
Where are the killer combos at?? This is what the games about combo hits. I have this game and I can get eyedol on this game and I did killer hits 50+ hits in a row. No killer combos...that sucks..
Sure it's black and white, but the detail was better than the NES! If you compare the 2 old systems(NES nd GB), you should notice this! If it were black and white with primitive graphics, gamers would have quickly caught on(tetris was a classic, but a console cannot be successful to gamers based on 1 game, right?!)...But, it was pretty close to playing handheld SNES without color!
that game boy port of this fighting game from rare was very incredible and very fun also i hate how the ai computer when read my moves and attacks they destroyed me with combos as f*ck also even on the very easy difficulty lol
I used to be SOOO good at this game when I was a kid, I would totally get wrecked by my younger self today... xD I could beat ultra hard mode no problem, sometimes without even losing a round before getting to the last 3 characters.
I used to be really good at this when I was like 8 years old. I could beat the game in Ultra Hard mode without using any continues, I could do some impressive combos with Spinal and everything... Last time I played it I had literally NO IDEA how to play, that was pretty sad xD Need to find the cartridge by the way!~
omg! I played this game when I was a little boy and I only used the pig(now I know it's a werewolf...). It had a skill which was rolling on the floor pretty much killed everything.
After Jago, Glacius and Sabrewulf, Orchid, Spinal, Fulgore and Cinder were confirmed to return in XBOX ONE's Killer Instinct. Nothing said about T. J. Combo, Riptor or even Chief Thunder.
It looks like crap now but it really felt like u were playing the real thing. Felt like Killer Instinct on the go. Ran my black Gameboy hot playin this.
They really got the KI theme down great with this game. Same goes for the first Mortal Kombat - yeah, it was a pretty lousy game, but they really did great things with the music.
Man, this was a really great port of Killer Instinct. A much better attempt than others
*stares at Mortal Kombat 4 for the GBC*
You make an impressive point, at the same time however K.I. was published by Midway Games and Nintendo, or Nintendo and Midway Games.
Which to further my point, since MK was Midway's property they could do what they wanted with. Whereas K.I. on the other hand probably had it so easily converted to the original Game Boy, because of it already being Nintendo's technology.
I know right.
*Stares at Street Fighter for GB*
Hellz yeah, guy.
*Leers grimly at MK1 and MK3 for Game Boy; smashes both with hammer; smiles; walks away*
@@JHand04 MK2 was actually excellent :)
A surprisingly playable port on the original GB.
Rareware devs were just that good, everything they were touching turned into gold, even on such a limited console with 2 buttons, they were able to port a combo-heavy fighting game? Music sounds good, it plays well, graphics are good...wtf...how they did it?!
Killer instinct's Game Boy version reviewed by critics as horrible.
Yeah, but the controls were bad.
This game is great. Best beat em up on the systema
This really brings back memories. This was my first game on Gameboy and I played it so much. I remember playing Fulgore all the time because I thought he was just some ninja xD
For me, It was my very first game ! :D
I still have this game cartridge....and it works :D
I've never heard of a game boy cartridge not working anymore
+hanspeterpitsch Then you haven´t seen my Pokemon yellow cartridge where every sprite turned into a brown square.
Same here
2021, still working???
@@SENTRYXX yes
Oh my....I never knew they made K.I. for GameBoy. WOW.
If you idle in Conker's Fur Day without pausing, Conker eventually pulls out a gameboy and starts playing KI
Yeah I actually owned it at one point
Oh they did I remember clear as day when I was a kid playing it
I thought it was the only place it existed
I can't believe this port is actually a really good one from the graphics to the music. I was actually blown away by the music and how well it compares to the arcade. Now if you look at a lot of other ports like Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat they got nothing on this.
This was a very well done conversion
Yeah strange huh isn’t ir,i don’t know how rareware did pull this off but it’s amezing, heck this version has even some paralax scrolling, now that’s mind blowing.
To be fair Mortal Kombat 2 for the Game Boy is pretty good, but yeah, this one is awesome considering the limitations of the hardware.
Man I remember having this game and a hell of a good Gameboy library
Killer Instinct
Super Mario Land
Play Action Football
Castlevania
NBA Jam
NBA Jam T.E.
Primal Rage
Operation C
Battle Toads
Metroid 2
Gargoyles Quest
And of course Tetris
Those great games are why the Gameboy is one of my favorite consoles of all time.
What happened to your game boy and games??
Did anyone else watch Conker play this game on his Game Boy?
I’ve still got this and the SNES version boxed + the Killer Cuts CD.
Rare used to be so damn good in the 90’s.
a very underrated port of an awseome and classic fighting game!!!
I could never get past the second to last boss on the ladder, always gave up because it was too hard. Feels good to finally see how it ends
El mejor juego de lucha de GB junto al Mortal kombat 2
conker likes this game
Finger-breaking game... I miss those good ol' times...
If you pick glacius and spam the b button you will win this game 99% of the time even on the hardest difficulty.
Would u recommend this game to players because im interested
Andres Dardon No its not bad but it has its problems if you like the gameboy and if you can get this game for very cheap there is no problem but its nowhere near the snes version.
Andres Dardon *I would reccommend it, it is fun to play...at least it was fun when I was a kid but is almost the same as SNES. Instead of asking opinions try yourself, it's a classic.*
Kitari thanks
Is this version easy? If that's the case?
I remember getting my gameboy for xmas and it came packaged with this game. It made me a fan of the series. :3
Eyedols stomp animation is lodged in my head from childhood
Hands down the best fighting game on the classic GB. It nailed the one thing the other fighting ports on the system didn't; fast, responsive gameplay and controls. Sorry I'm 12 years late, but I agree
this is amazing considering it's on a Gameboy!
I was SO HYPED to get this for Xmas as a kid.
Wish that had known about this version of Killer Instinct sooner, since I played the SNES version quite a bit. Defiantly going to get a copy down the road, since my original Gameboy library was pretty spartan in terms diversity of games.

This actually runs better than I thought it would
Any conkerlovers here?
I would blister my thumbs playing this back in the day
Really not bad port at all, when considering of GB's limits!
Easily the best fighter I've played on the Gameboy.
Audio is another story.
This game was a great port, but it was also infinite city. If you knew how you could reset the linkers and auto doubles indefinitely. Chief Thunder’s was incredibly easy to do, and needless to say Eyedols was brain dead.
this was the first game that I had on Gameboy back to 10 years old, I think.
Still got my copy of this game even after close to twenty years. And I still got the old grey Game Boy.
back before microsoft ruined rare and butchered KI with that garbage reboot on xbone.
this game is so good, its not just good in GB standards ... its so well made, i just purchased KI for the SNES, and after like 15 years of not playing it, i was able to finish it thanks to my experience i had of playing this one.

God I used to love this game, I struggled against Thunder so much as a kid haha
In the vertical list of characters, Spinal seems to have an hut.
I'm good at this game too! I've beat the first opponent...
Fun fact.
Thunder theme is based on his original Killer Cuts theme
1:24 - it is a reference to Sabrewulf from the game of the same name published by Ultimate Play The Game.
In my opinion jago's theme sounds kinda cool in the 8bit version for the game boy WOW
Nice, it actually looks fairly accurate to the SNES/arcade game. The graphics, and animations alone are very impressive for 8-bit B&W Gameboy standards, and reminisc of the Donkey Kong Land games. (Also by Rare.)
It's pretty cool how they made some of the backgrounds feature parallax scrolling to, which is very hard to do on 8-bit systems.
the gameboy had some incredible ports that pushed the boundries of what it could handle
Thunders BGM is done really well in this port.
I expected a far worse game, i'm surprised that it wasn't' the case.
I never knew that this was on gameboy
Man i used to get nightmares because of sabrewulf 😂
This looks good for a Gameboy, i'm impressed!
Sabrewulf's music is the coolest.
Oh my lord! They actually cared about this port!
I really liked this game when I was 13. Got if for my birthday, along with a yellow Game Boy that came with Donkey Kong Land.
Sabrewulf theme
Have you never played fighting games before? Mirror matches are common.
I cant say how many hours i spent playing this game, crazy game way better than he new versions of killer instinct.
Interesting how Cinder/Riptor are left off this roster, as they were in KI 3.
icomp187 Ugh, I can't stand Spinal lol ... my least favorite.
Cinder just had cheap moves, like you said, but wasn't an enduring favorite. Riptor's popularity seems to have risen over the years. Riptor was probably my personal favorite.
Shy Gamer Absofruitly!
Game boy sp was the best you could play in the dark
This game was scary af

GOOD GAME. ONLY MISSING. RIPTOR AND CINDER.

i love this game sou much back in the days, i still remember de nights in bed whit a lamp my headphones and play KI on gameboy

VERY VERY GOOD I LIKE A KILLER INSTINCT
I used to be SOOO good at this game when I was a kid, I would totally get wrecked by my younger self today... xD
I could beat ultra hard mode no problem, sometimes without even losing a round before getting to the last 3 characters.
I have a thing to say, this game is fucking BADASS
That was pretty cool, I guess.
I never knew Killer Instinct was made for the GB.
It was interesting to hear all the level musics in 8-bit.
Had to wait until Fulgore for the C-C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER
Imagine whiffing a combo breaker when there are two buttons
This game runs pretty smooth compared to the Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat GBA ports.
the music is just so fucking awesome.
Man I'm shocked they got all the characters and stages in except for two. Even the amazing MK2 port couldn't do that.
Faltou o Cinder, e o Riptor.
It works astoundingly well and fluid.
coming to your home in 1995 only on the nintendo gameboy!
***** rude
***** What makes you think that I'm fat?
***** bitch
The game my GB came with. I must admit I was just bashing buttons, but was super fun! =D
That's because of the Game Boy's hardware limits.
I had this game, for a fighting game on the game boy its a good port.
I used to be really good at this when I was like 8 years old.
I could beat the game in Ultra Hard mode without using any continues, I could do some impressive combos with Spinal and everything...
Last time I played it I had literally NO IDEA how to play, that was pretty sad xD
Need to find the cartridge by the way!~
This game was so hard as a kid, you make it look like a piece of cake.
because the computer is cheap
how come I never knew this game existed for the GB!!!
co co co co combo breaker
omg! I played this game when I was a little boy and I only used the pig(now I know it's a werewolf...). It had a skill which was rolling on the floor pretty much killed everything.
bring a 64 bit arcade to an 8 bit laptop…only Nintendo can di this miracle!
Rare did a great job with this port.
After Jago, Glacius and Sabrewulf, Orchid, Spinal, Fulgore and Cinder were confirmed to return in XBOX ONE's Killer Instinct. Nothing said about T. J. Combo, Riptor or even Chief Thunder.
Beautiful
6:12 how can Jago fight himself?
It looks like crap now but it really felt like u were playing the real thing. Felt like Killer Instinct on the go. Ran my black Gameboy hot playin this.
This was literally like the only fighting game on gameboy
nah
I'm constantly astounded by what the managed to port to the Gameboy.
je savait même pas qui l existé sur GB ? Sa va quand même, même les les musiques franchement je suis surpris je m’attendait a pire pour une GB.
The game was so hard it was quite the accomplishment beating it.
@godistv I really don`t know why they putted it on the Gameboy 2 buttons equals a BAD situation in fighting games.
are the controls okay ? it looks like mortal combat on gameboy . =/ and are there other flaws in this game?
the 8 bit music can be pretty cool in this
Now this is a pretty faithful port of the SNES game. Fluid, that's what I like to see!
glacius mah boi
They really got the KI theme down great with this game. Same goes for the first Mortal Kombat - yeah, it was a pretty lousy game, but they really did great things with the music.
holy fuck, bring back memories
