    interesting fact, when luke is talking to vader after removing his mask, you can hear the blasters in the back, but the thing is, there were no rebeliants on the death star, so the blasters being fired is the sound of stormtroopers killing one another for the place on the spaceships to escape the deathstar that was about to be destroyed

    I saw this as a very young kid in the theater in 1983; I was eight years old. There were grown ass men freaking out in the aisles when Luke was getting fried by Palpatine SHOUTING AT THE SCREEN for Vader to help, literally yelling HE'S YOUR SON! HELP HIM! Back then there were no special editions yet and Vader didn't scream no, he just looked between the Emperor and Luke, picked that old asshole up, and hurled his ass into the Death Star. The entire room ROARED in victory, I didn't see an audience react like that until Avengers: Endgame decades later.

    Vaders suit was more then just a fashion statement. The suit was packed full of life support tech (the breathing sound was literally him breathing with the assistance of a respirator). It was also designed by the Emperor to hinder Anakins movements and keep him in constant pain so the he couldn't easily rise up against the Emperor. Part of being a Sith is constantly trying to take as much power as possible, so Sith were known to turn on their masters or apprentices fairly commonly as power plays.

    • @cassieo
      @cassieo 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +25

      Yeah, Vader’s suit was a superconductor for Force Lightning.
      Anakin was doomed from the moment he turned on the Emperor, and he still made the sacrifice play to save his son (and ultimately bring balance to the Force).

    • @thor1829
      @thor1829 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Hell, it was required for a Sith to turn on their master to continue the rule of two. Palpatine broke this line because he was arrogant and saw himself as the epitome of the Sith.

    Luke’s plan is to send the droids in as a “gift” to get his lightsaber inside (or else it would have been taken from him), send Leia to release Han from the carbon freeze, get captured himself (the Rancor was not planned but he handled it), then escape all together with Lando’s help. some facts about the 2nd deathstar: it was almost twice as big as the first one and apart from not having the obvious designflaw anymore, it had another big advantage. the first DS's main mega-laser planet killer weapon had to recharge 24 hours for another blast. the 2nd just needs a few minutes between blasts.

    the star wars universe has thousands of languages. the main language is called basic and is the one you saw on the computer screen in the beginning of the movie and most humanoids speak. hutteese is a common language in the outer rim territories and is the native language of the hutts, the species of jabba, the crime boss on tattooine. the language for example R2D2 beeps is called binary and is understood by most computersystems and other droids.

  • @afropunkx

    You do get R2D2s personality without understanding him, in fact you could argue that his personality is portrayed so well that you can actually understand him ,Especially when he is being sassy which is like 80% of the time haha. This paired with C3PO translating parts for us is perfect. The 'selling drinks' part for example.

  • @williamjones6031
    @williamjones6031 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

    1. Best guess is that Han was Jabba's "trophy" for about a year and a half before the rescue.
    2. Vader discovered Leia as Luke's sister because he could feel it through Luke.
    Luke didn't know that until just before then.
    3. Luke's light saber is green because he lost his old one along with his hand so they
    decided to make it green because it worked better in the desert background landscape.
    4. Everybody is freaking out because Luke and Leia kissed mostly because she was trying
    to piss off Han. They didn't know they are related.
    5. The "I love you. I know" was written into the script to get Leia the shot to say it to Han.
    6. This was Warrick Davis'/Lead Ewok first acting gig. He was only 13.
    Willow is his lead with Val Kilmer and worth a first time/share.😎
    7. Awesome camera work with the race through the forest. Nobody in their right mind would go that fast.
    8. A little corn. Hans' reaction to Leia telling him Luke is her brother.
    9. Jedi is plural. With Luke and Leia leading the way they can reestablish the Jedi back into the galaxy.
    10. Ford wanted Han to die in this episode.
    11. This is the best of the original 6 George Lucas Star Wars. After this he sold it to Disney, and everything changed. Sadly

    The emperor's overconfidence really was his downfall. Using the force, I peered into the future, saw Vader bringing Luke to him, saw the rebels being captured on Endor and saw Luke striking down Vader in anger... but didn't look beyond those moments.

  • @SkyBlueFox1
    @SkyBlueFox1 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +31

    While ESB is the most popular movie of the original trio, I have a really big soft-spot for Luke and Vader's conversation on Endor (38:22). In Ep4, Vader spent his time being intimidating or commanding; in Ep5, he was a constant, looming presence and got a very extensive fight sequence. But here, seeing the two of them just talk makes for a very thoughtful moment. It's quiet, a little introspective, and I honestly consider it one of the best parts of ROTJ.
    Like, granted, it's not super-duper deep or anything, and now that we're 40 years removed from the original release of the film, it's not like it's groundbreaking or anything. But it's still really good and effective stuff!

    Jabba is the Gang boss because of his money and control over the "official" leaders in the Hutt controlled area space. He can order their deaths at any time. He is freakishly rich because he has gained control of all the spice mines in Hutt space after all the other gang bosses were killed. For most Hutts, the fatter you are, the higher your status is, and he moves around on his big slab bed because it hovers around. There have been Hutt Jedi and Sith though, and they were actually really fit and physically powerful warriors.

    We don't need everything translated for us. We can gather meaning just from context and performance. It's actually more fun to imagine what they're saying, except for key scenes.
    Just like Vader's "NOOOO" towards the end. That wasn't in the original version of the film. We didn't need the "no" to spell out what Vader was thinking; you could just tell my the editing and the performance, even though you can't even see his face. That is great filmmaking; show, don't tell.

  • @The_Texorcist
    @The_Texorcist 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    What so many reaction vids fail to see is when Luke attacks Vader it’s not a triumphant scene, it’s a tragic one. As Yoda told Luke anger, fear and aggression are all paths to the dark side. When Vader finds out about Leia it filled Luke with fear. When Vader said that if Luke won’t turn to the dark side perhaps Leia would Luke lashed out at him with aggression/anger because of that fear.
    You can hear it in the music, by striking as he was and his wild lightsaber swings he was falling to the dark side. Once Vader fell and Luke kept swinging in a full rage he had given into the dark side. That’s why the emperor was happy seeing it. Luke only was able to take a step back from the dark side by seeing how he had become so much like his father.

The Imperial Senate was a remnant of a legitimate senate that existed before the emperor took over. He kept the senate in place to give the illusion of democracy, even though he was really a dictator.
    Later in Ep.4 during the meeting on the Death Star, it was mentioned that the emperor had finally done away with the senate altogether, and gave control of planets and solar systems to special Imperial warlords called Moffs, who could rule as they pleased, answering only to the emperor himself.

    little context for why vader is so whipped early on by the emporer: he has f'd up vaders life in so many ways and tormented and tortured him both physically and emotionally so thats why he says "it is pointless to resist my son" vader has tried to rise up against the emporer multiple times and every time he gets bitched hard the emporer is actually so powerful he just never expected vader to turn against him here

    Thing with the Dark Side really is like you completely lose your mind. But if one can hold it together, it's possible to weild both sides but it always messes things up. That stuff is explored later.
    Vader's redemption is the only time a full blown Sith Lord returned to the light, so it somewhat opened up this possibility of keeping your head while also being full dark side... I think of it like being hypnotized... Or like dark side mind trick that's all-encompassing and is done to the self ... or often egged on by a powerful minded Sith Lord like The Emperor.... Its not that the Emperor lost his tact, he's just doing a full blown mind -trick.

    In the scene with Han and Lando talking, with the Falcon in the background, you were thinking of matte painting and you are right. There is a bit of a lack of depth perception which makes it more noticeable than it should be.

    A lot of your questions will probably be answered by the Prequels.
    Yes, the man at the end was Anakin, Luke’s father. Originally it was the actor you see when he’s unmasked (Sebastian Shaw), only looking much more human and healthy looking than he did when he took the helmet off. They replaced him in later releases of the film with a different actor. One of the many issues people have with these later “Special Editions” of these movies is that they alter stuff from the classic films. This might not be so bad if the original unedited versions were readily available, but they aren’t. A lot of the shoddy, dated CGI (which you surprisingly enough didn’t seem to pick out among all the times you mentioned stuff in the movie that decidedly WASN’T CGI lol) was a result of Lucas trying to perfect his vision of the movies and better align them with the Prequel films that came out after. Many of the planets in that montage at the end are from the Prequels, for example. Most fans pick and choose which edits they like and don’t like from each version.

    Fun fact, the answer to how Vader found out Luke is his son is in the comics, after new hope Vader wants to hunt down the group that destroyed the Death Star so he hires a bounty hunter called boba fett, at the time he was completely oblivious to who Luke was and what his name was, when boba fett found Luke he managed to hear his last name as he escaped, with this information and tells Vader the boys name, and at that moment vader realized they had the same last name

    Keep in mind that the prequels take place before the Empire, so there is no emperor and no rebel alliance. Instead, the ruling government is the Republic, which is a representative government with a galactic senate made up of senators from all the member planets (though not every planet in the galaxy is part of the Republic, especially the farthest outlying star systems). The leader of the senate is the Supreme Chancellor, kind of like the elected president or prime minister of the galaxy.
    There is no military because there's been peace for 1,000 years, thanks to the Jedi Knights who serve the Republic, but exist apart from it with its own rules and traditions. Centuries before, they defeated their ancient enemies, the Dark Lords of the Sith, who used the dark side of the Force to try to conquer the galaxy. It's believed that the Jedi wiped out the Sith, who used the title Darth. (In the comics and trading cards that came out in the 70s and 80s, Darth Vader is described as a Sith lord.)
    By the time of Ep.1, the senate has become corrupt and ineffective. Wealthy and powerful corporations are so influential that they even have their own members of congress, who manipulate the laws to their advantage while the voices of the people go ignored. One of these corporations is the greedy Trade Federation, which controls most of the trade routes through the galaxy. They are the apparent new villains, but they are secretly in cahoots with a familiar-looking hooded figure who not even the Jedi are aware of, and who is pulling the strings from behind the scenes.

    We saw Jabba move in the first movie, when he catches up with Han at the Falcon. He moves much like a slug; kind of undulating along.
    Baby Yoda is not actually the name of the character. He didn't have a name but he is the same species as Yoda, so people just called him Baby Yoda, even though he is not necessarily related to Yoda directly.
    It's not so much that a Jedi has to defeat an enemy to become a Jedi, it's that a Jedi must face trials which are unique to his own experience. He must confront his own darkness and resist the temptation to fall to the dark side of the Force. It's more of an internal thing.
    Luke could have a kid to train, but the galaxy needs far more than what he can produce. He needs to pass on the training to other Force-sensitive beings across the galaxy to bring back the Jedi Order. This was a large part of his story in the novels and comics that came afterward, before Disney threw it all out the window a few years ago.

    The sith dynamic is explored more in the prequels but essentially modern sith have the "rule of two" that there can only be two real sith, or darths, a master and an apprentice, when the apprentice becomes powerful they kill the master and becoming the master takes an apprentice initiating the cycle again. Sidious, the emperor, knew this very well and since he now knew Luke that was much younger and didn't have Vader's limitations so he wanted to replace Vader with Luke doing tje opposite of the rule of two since he obviously wanted to remain in power

    You gotta remember, when Obi Wan Kenobi told Luke in the first Star Wars movie that Darth Vader killed Luke's father -- that was the intended truth. It was only with the second movie that the writer of the movie thought to go with the plot twist of Vader being Luke's father.... so they had to ret-con the discrepancy. Hence, Obi Wan's "What I told you was true from a certain point of view."_

This movie just has practical effects with Jabba. CGI wasn't a thing really in the 80s. Well not the way it is now with computers... Back then computers were just word processors and calculators.

    From what I understand. The part about Luke and Leia being siblings was a retcon that was made as this movie was actually going to be two movies originally.
    In the original Luke was going to find a charecter that was going to actually be his sister and train or something but it was just retconned so that Leia was his sister.
    I may be remembering wrong though.
    The retcon does makes the parts in the previous movies where Luke and Leia kiss weird. But keep in mind that was before the retcon.
