    I have sailed a cruising cat off and on for over 25 years. I've not sailed a boat in the last 4-5 years however, so thought TH-cam might have some useful videos to knock the rust off my skills. There are a number, but these Inspire and Learn videos by TMG are absolutely the best! Easy to watch, very detailed and complete. I'm going out again in a week or so and these videos with Joe have eliminated any doubts I had about being rusty in my knowledge. These videos have confirmed I still know what I need to know about the basics. In addition, unlike old dogs, one can teach a old sailor some new tricks and I've picked up a couple from these videos. Thanks TMG !

      Great to read this feedback - thankyou! We are so glad we can help you get back out on the water, enjoy the adventures that lie ahead, and maybe one day you'll sail into Sydney - Cheers, Joe

    An anemometer is a wind speed indicator not a wind direction indicator in the US. A Wind Vane measures wind direction . Love your instructional videos. I send all of my new crew members to this website before a charter.

      This is a good idea. These safety videos are hard to produce due to their nature of them. This will be something we discuss as a team and potentially have a certified boat safety instructor come in for this kind of tutorial.

    I also check for a downhaul and make sure it is un-locked.

    I miss an issue in the description. That is the tendency of the battens to catch on the lines of the lazy pack in any sort of waves that rock the boat or misalignment of the direction of the vessel being perfectly into the wind..
    In my experience there are two possible solutions to this.
    1. Send someone on the cabin roof to sort each line that has been caught, by cooperation with the crew member that is doing the raising.
    2. Before raise of the sail, (or when the first batten is in danger of being caught gets close to the lines), release the whole system of the lazy pack and complete the sail deployment. When the sail is fully up, retighten the lines of the pack to their regular position.

    Hi I see that you don’t seem to use the topping lift when hoisting and then when hoisted releasing it?

  • @brienw8800
    @brienw8800 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Also, would you close the clutch and remove the halyard from winch for use with the jib lines?

    Hi,
    You mentioned in 8:09 that there is another video after hoisting is complete. Would you please tell what is the number (or link) to that video? Thanks for this Back to Basics videos! VERY Useful!!!

      @@TMGYachts Hello and Thanks for your reply. I already watched (in fact, lots of times hehe) all the Inspire and Learn videos and Love them All!!! Extremely useful!!! Will be chartering a 2019 Lagoon 450F next week, and the videos have been of Great help to get a bit familiar with the boat. By any chance you have a video about the 450F?

      @@captainirv3542 thanks for your kind words. Unfortunately, as this boat isn't in production anymore we are focused on producing content on the Lagoon 42 and 46. Sorry about this. I hope that these can give you a general idea on how to do these things on a similar vessel.

      @@TMGYachts It should also be discussed hoisting since once the sail is up and secure, the topping lift should be released.

    • @jimmysprague9037
      @jimmysprague9037 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. On my Lagoon 450, I have to pay as much attention to make sure the main sail is on the correct side of the topping lift line as I do making sure the sail clears the lazy jack lines. This was not mentioned at all in this video.

      @@ozuelo1972 Hi, we totally agree and this is our fault. I should have sliced in a piece of footage that I did not. Sometimes we make mistakes and we will always strive to do better. I will add this in the description.

      @@jimmysprague9037 Hi Jimmy, I have now noted this in our description, it was a mistake on our part which we are sorry for this. We originally had the two videos combined and decided to seperate them, the topping lift is discussed in the lowering video covering its use for hoisting but since the videos are separated I accidentally missed this piece of footage. We will continue to work to ensure our videos are perfect in the future.
