Yeah I thought it’s cause it can sense negative emotions like anger and fear so if you’re wielding it in that state it becomes harder to use. Kanan explains it in that episode when he was training Sabein to use it. This vid was kinda poor tbh.

It’s interesting because during their duel Paz Vizsla also has difficulty wielding the Dark Saber. So it is more than just a reluctance for power or a lack of ambition that makes it hard for people to wield the Dark Saber.

What I figured was that the Darksaber is a bit more...sentient that most sabers we see. It has it's own criteria for its wielders. Most likely this criteria includes a singular focus on an objective, a refusal to compromise for any reason, or possibly working in tune with the saber instead of trying to just use it as a tool/weapon. It has a long history, I think we'd have seen or heard about others having these same issues if it happened consistently. Rather, I think that, before the Jedi reclaimed it, the Darksaber was handed down with lore and ritual and ceremony focused around how to properly use it, and what it needs to be most effective.

This was covered in Rebels... they had a whole conversation about the difference between being focused and being conflicted internally and how it impacts someone's ability to wield the blade, so that's really all it came down to between these two people. Even the blacksmith recognized the internal strife Mando was going through over Grogu and how it was impacting his ability to wield the blade.

I'd add the hemet removal to his inner conflict as well. Until he goes to Madalore and is cleansed of his sin, he will still struggle. I also find his unpainted armor telling, even the kid in 3-1 has his helmet already painted. Din's has always been bare, the helmet since the 1st episode.

I think it has to do more with Bo-katan and Din Djarin character. I think the sword is interested in leadership but in a neutral way. The Mandalorians have always been difficult group to keep united since they tend to become nomadic or subdivide overtime. You’re right to say the dark saber has been more trouble but not necessarily because of house Viszla and the dark saber ties but because the propensity of Mandalorians for infighting. The Jedi had years of instruction in morality and ethics before advancing while the Mandalorians were forged in battle. Din Djarin & Bo-Karan are still struggling with their pasts being involved in the more extreme Mandalorian factions so they are more naturally more hesitant to take up the Dark Saber. The real question is how whoever unites the Mandalorians. Will it be someone who is has a good degree of morality & pragmatism, a power hungry person like Gideon with few scruples or a person who subscribes to the New Mandolarians train of thought which is morally right but lacks pragmatism? Whoever it is will have to grapple the complex legacy of the Mandalorians. Unfortunately the Jedi had the force to unite and guide them and occasionally mislead them due to their dependence on it while the Mandalorians had only a warrior or mercenary culture to guide them which isn’t bad per se but it does leave alot of ambiguity which is kind of reflective of the Dark Saber. Hopefully the writers don’t write off the dark saber as darkside weapon but rather use it as a test of character for Bo-Kayan and Din Djarin future ambitions.

I primarily want to see that because it would give us as an audience a lot to go on. Bo-Katan was personally in control of the Throne of Mandalore, for the second time mind you, and even with the support of all the Clans and the Rebel Alliance, she still somehow managed to lose the planet. I really want to see how inadequate of a leader she has been so that SOMEONE can bring it up eventually and tell us why the hell the Mandalorian people would even bother following Bo-Katan.

I think it's a mix of things. There is definitely a tie in as to the blade being from a Jedi and not just an ordinary Saber. But I think a large part if it is this. He didn't seem to be struggling too much when he used the Saber during the Bounty with the meat butcher guys. And then he injured himself when he was using the Saber. And after that the whole blade being heavy bit came up. I think when the Armorer says he is fighting the blade, he is afraid of injury again and thus is a bit more reluctant and fighting the movements. He is really the only person who had some difficulty using the sword and he is also the only one that injured his own self using the blade. And it was shown on screen too. It has to be an important detail that they wanted shown.

I don't think you need to be a leader or want conquest to wield it. I think you need to be unwavering in your convictions. Din Djarin feels lost, and seems to feel like the responsibilities that have been thrust on him are weighing him down, the Dark Saber reflects this.
When we see that it was the most visibly heavy for him, is when he was forced to fight one of his on Kin, he was conflicted and didn't want to but was forced to anyway.

That makes alot of sense. It would also explain why Maul had to abandon it, when he bested Pre Visla it obeyed him fine, ot was only after Maul watched Palps kill his brother and humiliate him did he have doubts, causing the dwrksaber to rebel.

He probably struggled in the beginning just like everyone else but got accustomed to it. Din Jarin struggled using it when he was being taught by the armorer but as soon as he was disowned by his tribe he could easily use it in battle when he helped Boba Fett!

I like the idea that the weight of the darksaber is like a physical metaphor for the weight of leadership. Mando doesn't have any desire to be a leader so the darksaber is difficult for him to weald.

Umm, what? Tarre Vizla didn't 'leave his jedi life behind' or reunite the mandalorian clans, that is a straight up lie! I mean they even explain it in Rebels, after his passing, Mandalorians in House Vizla were able to steal the darksaber (likely during the Battle of Coruscant during the Old Republic due to happening in the same time period without exact dates and the fact that in Legends House Vizla was indeed with the Sith in the Sacking of Coruscant and we see the leader of Vizla and several other mandos fighting with the sith in the temple). Then House Vizla united the clans under the saber, not Tarre.

Different writers have different opinions on the nature of the saber, but there is a unifier in that only a clear mind and focused warrior seems to be able to wield the saber. Even back when it was first introduced it didn’t necessarily buck against the person wielding it, but they knew the weight of the weapon they carried. Both literally and figuratively. The Mandalorian… Not so much. It’s a tool for him, not an extension of his will.

Part of why I liked the season two finale of the mandalorin he tries to pass it off straight up surrendering to who he thought would be a better leader only to be told it was unfortunately his. A clanless Mando without any true direction.

At a guess because Gideon had years to familiarise and train himself with the weapon, as opposed to the couple of weeks or however long it was Din had. Neither current canon nor the old G-canon support the notion that Lightsabers have a mind of their own.

Din was NOT "comfortable" with removing his helmet for the most part. MAYBE in front of JUST Grogu, but every other time he absolutely was NOT. He did it, but he wasn't comfortable with it. He was highly likely resistant. But his goal outweighed the tradition in the end.

Although you may not be correct with the whole deserving leader theory I think you might have a point. Even if it has been in the hands of the mandalorians for so long the Darksaber still has Jedi wisdom within its crystal. I think it’s aware of the power it grants it’s wielder and can tell a true leader when used by one. You are correct, Din Djarin isn’t a leader just a humble father training his foundling. I believe the darksaber will be passed on to a capable leader in season 3.

In this case no, think of what the Darksaber is, a symbol,a hope of a people, a dark reminder of mistakes made and gone,It is a coin of both good and evil, Like all it's previous masters before Din,he must decide to embrace the weight of his people's hopes and defeats. And, carry that weight,or Leat that crush everything he holds dear.

That darksaber seems to be taking its toll on Djarin. Hopefully he will find a suitable wielder before it jeopardises his relationship with Grogu. I don't think Grogu might be ready to learn how to hold a lightsaber, much less the darksaber itself.

The easiest way to conquer a people, would be to convince them that a weapon designed to defeat them was to choose their ruler. It would litterally be telling them the truth even when openly ignoring the facts of the matter that it was meant to conquer them, not to lift them up. The weapon isn't a tool of enhancement, but one of subjugation.

This video doesn’t touch on how lightsabers behave. They are plasma in an electromagnetic envelope. That electromagnetism causes them to be attracted to things, particularly other lightsabers but more than just that. The blade wasn’t too heavy for Din, it had s perceptible pull towards things it was attracted to

Perhaps it was just the conflict within Mando that was causing it to seem so heavy. Loyalty to his clan, to Mandalor, but more so to the baby Yoda... Gideon knew who he was and had strong purpose, where as the bounty hunter was a bit of a wandering idiot.

Just a theory; what if the white and dark sabers were meant for the perfect Jedi and perfect sith Lord to clash in a 1 on 1 duel match only to become a stalemate leading to the 1st 2 grey jedi using the rule of 2? Be the ultimate balance to the force?
The Jedi were alway taught to trust and follow where the force takes them. The sabers and kyber chrystals were shown to be connected to each Jedi and dark side users. And the force has been shown to be sentient. So what if the force is playing both sides like a chess board just like how Palpatine did in the clone wars?

Pretty sure if you have some sort of internal conflict, the dark saber will be difficult for you as if it’s rejecting you. Din is having a whole mid life crisis about his cult but Gideon is very sure and confident of himself and his cause
