I also got a similar pain on the outside area of my lower leg, but only during one run out of the 3 10km runs I have done so far in the Speed 4. I was worried it would persist into my next run in my Triumph 21s, but luckily it didn't. The difference between my 3 runs was that the one I got the pain in was a slow run. My first run was a fastish 2km (3:45 to 3:55 pace) then slow 1km (5:00 pace) and repeat for 10km. I had no issues on this run. It was great. The second one was a slow (5:15 to 5:30 pace) 10km run and this is the one that really hurt me. I almost had to stop and I never feel that way. The next was a fast one again, generally doing 3:30 to 3:55 per km throughout, but I stopped to adjust laces a few times and had no pain issues. As a heel striker, the heel to forefoot transition feels quite stiff at slow paces and it's not until I put more force into the foam when running a bit faster that I get enough compression in the heel to allow a smooth roll through. Hopefully, this is something that will sort itself out as the foam breaks in a bit more. A great shoe if the pain doesn't persist. I'm not a fan of the stretchy laces and ended up lace locking the shoe as the lace tension kept decreasing over the course of each run. Hopefully that will sort that issue. I also have what is considered a similar shoe in the Puma Deviate Nitro 2. At this stage, the Puma feels better at slow paces, but also feels a little heavier and less stable in the heel. The upper on the Speeds feels more comfortable and is softer. The Puma has similar lace issues. At faster paces, I'd say they are comparable, but the lighter feel probably gives the Speeds a slight advantage. Anyway, good review. I'm done rambling.
Thanks for sharing your experience in these! I think you’re onto something with the faster runs not causing the issue. I’m a heel striker as well, but tend to do less heel striking when I’m running faster. These have broken in some for me and I only rarely feel a slight twinge after running in them now. I’ve also seen where some people have replaced the laces with less stretchy laces and resolved some issues. I do love this shoe though.
I have same niggle on lower inside right shin area…increased mileage and running on pavement. I’ve been foam rolling and strength training and getting better! Been running in my Triumph 21’s to cushion the impact…will officially break in my speed 4’s on my Saturday run with pace. I hope your shins are getting better 👍 I too love saucony 😊 Just started my training cycle for SF marathon in July. I might run with the speed 4’s for the event 🥰 Keep up the excellent content 🤙🤙🤙 I enjoy your videos 👍👍👍
Thanks for the kind comments! I hate to say I’m glad I’m not the only person experiencing that, but at least I know it isn’t in my head. I’ve been foam rolling and strength training as well, and it seems to be helping. I started incorporating weights into my calf raises and I think that’s working for me. I ran 7.5 miles in them today at quicker than marathon pace and so far so good. I have a 19 mile long run Saturday but may be getting a very good deal on the Pro 4s that I can’t pass up, so they may be on my feet for that run. Thanks for watching, and good luck with your marathon training!!
Congrats for getting back into running! I’m not too familiar with the Nike Pegasus, but $62 is a good deal. I would say that you could also save some money and grab the Speed 3s for $125 on Saucony’s site and even cheaper on Amazon.
I too became a huge Saucony fan exactly one year ago with the Speed 3's. Ive since went on to purchase Pro 2's and 3's and Triumphs. I went through two pairs of 3's with zero issues. Well my second pair had reached its mileage and I just bought the Speed 4's. Saddly I am getting hot spots on the pads of my pinky toes. I took them out on a 5 mile recovery run. They felt uncomfortable like I had the toe box to tight. I loosened the toe box up and tied a runners knot. I do that with all my shoes. Next day I did 10 miles at tempo. I got hot spots bad. Two days later I did 13 a little slower than tempo and put body glide on my feet. The first 10 miles was awesome. Loved the shoes. Then from 10-13 my right foot started to develop a hot spot.. Im just hoping it goes away as they break in.
Thanks for commenting! That’s too bad about the hot spots. I wonder if it has to do with the laces being more stretchy as some people have said. Hopefully it goes away as they break in.
@@copperdan7667 I’ve run a full and three halves in my Pro 3s, and I PR’d each time. I love them still, and they’ve still got some life in them, but the Pro 4s feel just a bit nicer and the upper fits like a glove. Had I not gotten a huge discount on the 4s at a St. Patrick’s Day run, I would have waited.

I’m getting back into running and Im considering these in the London colorway or saving lots of money and getting a Nike Pegasus for $62.

@@betteryetjet fingers crosses because they are fast shoes. Ill stick with my Carbons for racing but these are such a nice long run shoe
I just ran 19 miles in the Pro 4 and will definitely be using them for my marathon next month, but I love running in the Speed 4s, too!
@@betteryetjet I have two halfs and two fulls on my pro 3's. I'm going to do one more of each and then buy the Pro 4's
