Dear Ela, I just watched Tomorrow Ever After because Amazon thought it was a movie they thought I would like. They were right, in fact I loved it. I found it heart-warming and very moving in a not entirely dissimilar way to It's a Wonderful Life. One of those very rare films that makes me see my life and life in general in a slightly different way. Thank you!
I love your comment of don't worry about it and enjoy the process and the work. I write my own material for comedy which I perform at open mic nights, but is there more I could do to get my material out there? There aren't many open mic night venues in my small Saskatchewan city of Regina and I have asked my friends who also attend open mics, but a lot of people don't seem to have any advice. Are artists in smaller markets doomed?
My big take away is if the voices aren't kind, they are lying. I'll be passing that along. I have finally learned not to give the same weight to all feedback. If it isn't helpful, only hurtful, I let it go. As the buzzer went off I was thinking about maybe if the main character remains stuck in an unhealthy pattern, maybe the hope is in the minor character who chooses to walk away? I'm going to be playing with thst one.
Love that Margaret. And yes to bittersweet endings! When the main character doesn't change, seeing a supporting character make a change adds richness and depth to a dark ending. Yum.
I love the comment, "Any noise in your mind that is not kind to you is lying to you." !!! So true!
Me too

Good to know. I think alot about imposter syndrome. I fight it every day.
Thanks, Ela. You are such a gem and I appreciate what you do here.
Thank you.
Very helpful stuff in here! I especially loved the first question and very much appreciate your example from "Mary Poppins." Thanks Ela!
🙏
Love it! "and eventually, you are going to have to learn to produce your own work...plot spoiler" Thanks for this.

Tracy Turnblat is the main character in Hairspray, but her mother and other characters are the ones that change
Great example!
