The dealership wanted $75 to change the cabin air filter in my Honda. I bought one for 13 bucks and it took me a whopping 5 minutes to change. It really needed it, and now the A/C is nice and fresh.
Had a leak on my car ac and decided to take some inspiration from Scotty since I didn’t care to mess up the car much further. Turned out, one of the service ports started leaking and I replaced it and filled it up with refrigerant which all set me back about 40 dollars.
Good tip to prevent moisture on your evaporator is too turn the compressor off a couple minutes before you get to your destination. The closer it is to ambient temperature the less moisture it will have on it.
If you have problems with mold or smells, it may be a good idea to check the drain tube on your AC system. If the air conditioning is running right, there should be a clean puddle of water underneath your car. The system is designed to drain the condensation that builds up on the evaporator core. If the drain tube is plugged and water accumulates, you will have those problems.

If your car has an A/C system with leak sealer in it, to have full work done on that system, you will have to replace all of the A/C system components. The OEM Toyota cabin filters have the arrow on them pointing UP but aftermarket ones ( don’t go really cheap but don’t pay Toyota’s over inflated price either ) the arrow points in the direction that the air flow goes which is from the top down through the filter. My 2017 Highlander started blowing warm air after just 3 years ( we don’t use AC more than a dozen times a year but I run the AC for a few minutes once or twice a month even in the Winter just to keep the seals in good shape ). Less than 2 years later it was back to blowing warm again. In Canada you as a consumer can’t buy R 134a refrigerant at the car parts store anymore. There are “ substitutes “ ( R 12A NOT R12 or R1234y or whatever ). These coolants are made I believe out of propane so are highly flammable and it can’t be added to a system with some R134a in it, it must be completely purged.
Not mentioned - only read the gauge when hose is hooked up and car is running - and you are NOT pulling the trigger to fill. Any reading during trigger pull is useless. Not mentioned - to keep mold and mildew from forming in Houston and similar climates, turn off a/c compressor and just run the fan full blast until the ducting turns warm - about two minutes. You'll have little need for Lysol except once in a great while. It is tricky to remember to do this compressor shut-off trick right before you shut the car off. When you get used to it, it is just muscle memory and is easy.
Your supposed to rev the engine up to about 1500 rpm's while the gauge is hooked up. Pressures raise when the compressor spins faster. I have used these cans on many cars and have never had an issue like other ppl claim they destroyed their system. If you overfill it then purge a little out until the system is in the green 30-35 psi range while AC is full blast and engine slightly rev'ed up
@@michaelcarson121 correct. 1500 RPM. The system is supposed to go lower on the low side as the RPMs increase (which is the side that a fill gauge is connected to). If you have a high side gauge hooked up also, you’ll notice the pressure goes way up to like 300 or 350 depending on the system and refrigerant. But again, if you pull the trigger and try to read the low side, you’re conflating the pressure inside the can entering the system with the system pressure. That measurement is useless. 1500 rpm or thereabouts, and trigger not pulled to read the low side system pressure.
I live in Washington state and they outlawed the selling of the canisters of refrigerant. Luckily my son-in-law had a can. I was able to help a friend with her AC with her 2004 Saturn Vue and a friend helped me fill it up and it blows really cold now!
I also have a 2004 Saturn. Just today as I was driving I was thinking that the AC doesn't blow ice cold like it did a few years ago. After 20 years I guess its expected. What a coincidence that this video just dropped today.
That's insane. Another turd utopia. Every time they claim to improve life for the working class, remind them that they deprive working people of working air conditioning.
Talking about the cabin air filter, I wonder how many people actually know their cars have them! One guy I heard about took his car to get it serviced. When he read the items replaced, and saw the cabin air filter was there, he thought the workshop had scammed him, until the mechanic showed him the old cabin air filter they took out.
I have a 08 dodge ram 1500 4.7 I can’t find the cabin filter I don’t know what to do it should have a cabin filter somewhere if you can tell me where to look for it at I really appreciate it I love all your videos it’s helpful when I need a answer thanks Scotty for all the videos you put out!!
I know of someone that was a mechanic for a certain city. He worked on city buses. He took his refrigerant and put it into the cars system. The AC LITERALLY cooled the air on front of the vent into the coolest vapor i ever seen in Florida 😂😂. Wish i could do this to my car 😂😂
He said that all vehicles lose refrigerant over time, so they're deliberately made to leak a little refrigerant? I've always heard if you lose refrigerant that there's a leak somewhere or something is wrong because it's a closed system.
@@zelowatch30 The idea is to get the coolant fins in the heat exchanger warm to completely evaporate the moisture. The compressor would cool the fins. So, AC - OFF, Heater - ON, Temp Selector - MAX HOT.
Better way is to turn on recirculate and fan high after removing the filter then put an ozone generator in the car for about 15 20 minutes and leave it closed up over night . Nothing organic will survive , and without any chemicals at all. Really good ones can be had for less than $25 on Ebay. Ive had one for years and I can pull any organic smell from anything including an entire house.
I just changed my air filter 5 months ago, it still smells stale and is slow now. It's a Lexus RX 2014. I keep it in an exceptional condition but I guess it's 10 years now. Mileage is 125. Any insight please? Thank you!
My new car's AC runs seems to off the electric/battery (the AC still works when the engine auto stops) So I'm hoping that it's a sealed unit like a refridgerator. As far as a normal car's AC, it sucks but it uses so little power that you can just leave it running all the times without it affecting fuel consumption that much (in my old car i'd lose a few MPG running the AC, in my new one there's basically no difference). Also it seems to a great job at drying the air out because my screen will defog in seconds.
Hey @scottykilmer , could you tell us which kind of Lysol spray you use? You kept shaking the can while it was on camera so I was not possible to read the can. Maybe you could post not just the name of the Lysol product but also it's UPC code.
Adding refrigerant by pressure is equivalent to adding by weight. I’ve charged a lot of industrial refrigeration equipment, and I’ve never done it by weight
Same here I have never taken any of my cars or any car I've worked on to a mechanic to charge the AC system. I have never had a issue and usually a small charge then the car is good to go for years 💪
I was looking for this comment. I saw 2 other videos where he said don't use the can. One reason being you can't see the pressure on the high side. And the other is avoiding adding moisture into the system
I bought humidifiers and I bought fencing material made by vivore. Then I see you have a vacuuming machine for AC made by vivo. By Gary looks like they're making everything

What’s the correct refrigerant to buy for a 2003 C230 Kompressor Mercedes? Thanks so much.
Excellent video, thanks!
Great advice!
He said that all vehicles lose refrigerant over time, so they're deliberately made to leak a little refrigerant? I've always heard if you lose refrigerant that there's a leak somewhere or something is wrong because it's a closed system.
Houston humidty aint nothing like south florida
Does the Lysol trick applies to cars that don't have cabin air filters?
I always turn off the AC and turn on the heat a minute, or so before I turn off the car. No dampness means no bacteria, or mold.
Thats… not completely true..
@@fbgmroadrunner456 bacteria and mold require moisture. No moisture, no growth.
You should turn up the heat while the AC is on though because the AC gets cold air from the compressor and heater from the engine.
@@zelowatch30 The idea is to get the coolant fins in the heat exchanger warm to completely evaporate the moisture. The compressor would cool the fins. So, AC - OFF, Heater - ON, Temp Selector - MAX HOT.
@@jerrypolverino6025 Make sure you pick the hottest day, too. :)
Question: just plug in the can and let it go. It will suck in the refrigerant liquid by it self or you have to help it?
What’s your fix for cabin filter on 2011 f-150? My ac blows cold enough but not hard enough to cool the truck. Thanks
Thanks 👍
How much you wanna bet someone went out and somehow managed to charge their AC system with Lysol?
I was expecting Scotty to teach us how to do that exact thing
...👀👍😎😁
instructions not clear. lysol now in transmission.
Never knew the Lysol trick thx
Better way is to turn on recirculate and fan high after removing the filter then put an ozone generator in the car for about 15 20 minutes and leave it closed up over night . Nothing organic will survive , and without any chemicals at all. Really good ones can be had for less than $25 on Ebay. Ive had one for years and I can pull any organic smell from anything including an entire house.
*Hugo from Bob's Burger!* 😂
I hope scotty is eating good and staying healthy 🙏
Love your videos,I have question I have a Honda element 2007 the right side passenger has a shake I put new struts, could it be a cv axle? Thank you.
Scotty my AC blows but it's not blowing cold I try to do it myself but for some reason it won't blow cold. What should I
Wish my 99 accord cabin filter was that easy to access. 2011 crv is easy.
I'm going to do tf out of this
Fantastic!
I did this, also bought the Toyota ac treatment. Weeks later AC still smells horrible. What should I do?
I just changed my air filter 5 months ago, it still smells stale and is slow now. It's a Lexus RX 2014. I keep it in an exceptional condition but I guess it's 10 years now. Mileage is 125. Any insight please? Thank you!
I thought the recirculation needs to be on, is it different for a Toyota Sienna?
My new car's AC runs seems to off the electric/battery (the AC still works when the engine auto stops) So I'm hoping that it's a sealed unit like a refridgerator.
As far as a normal car's AC, it sucks but it uses so little power that you can just leave it running all the times without it affecting fuel consumption that much (in my old car i'd lose a few MPG running the AC, in my new one there's basically no difference).
Also it seems to a great job at drying the air out because my screen will defog in seconds.
Shout out to my fellow hot and humid Houstonians.
Cabin Air Filter, it's easy to put in. The Ford Focus has entered the chat 😂 😕 💥
Hey @scottykilmer , could you tell us which kind of Lysol spray you use? You kept shaking the can while it was on camera so I was not possible to read the can. Maybe you could post not just the name of the Lysol product but also it's UPC code.
Will the lysol mess up the blower motor and fan?
I used this on my RAV4 a couple months ago, and it worked well.
Thanks Scotty!
Como caido del cielo scotty. ❤🙏🙏
With the A/C on full and the filter removed, and after spraying a full can of Lysol, when does the cabin filter get reinstalled
a few min before the end of the video
ozium does the job as well
The car guru
Adding refrigerant by pressure is equivalent to adding by weight. I’ve charged a lot of industrial refrigeration equipment, and I’ve never done it by weight
Same here I have never taken any of my cars or any car I've worked on to a mechanic to charge the AC system. I have never had a issue and usually a small charge then the car is good to go for years 💪
Scotty does a F350 have a cabin air filter?
yes....and utube has a video on it.
Scotty your older videos said never to use these. What changed?
I was looking for this comment. I saw 2 other videos where he said don't use the can. One reason being you can't see the pressure on the high side. And the other is avoiding adding moisture into the system
Nice video.
The Lysol Spray of 3 Decades ago was much better at killing Molds, than the Current Lysol
2/55 air conditioning never fails. That's two windows down at 55 mph. The bad thing is when you come to a red light and it's 100 degrees.
100 degrees at 55mph isn't what I would call with conditioning
or 115 lmao
Hi Scott what do you mean twice as cold please explain how you get a twice as cold ?
I heard that some countries don't allow you to buy refrigerant. Like Canada?
I bought humidifiers and I bought fencing material made by vivore.
Then I see you have a vacuuming machine for AC made by vivo. By Gary looks like they're making everything
Yeah, I've got some of their stuff - think they're just branded (like "Great Value" & so many others these days).
@@jayayyyyy I wondered so many things have their name on it.
love u scotty
Just wondering where you can get Lysol, refrigerant and a cabin filter for $10 ?
