My heart broke for your dying plants. Thank you for being a great educator. I have learned so much from you how to care for my plants. Now to get ready to battle thrips

Thank you, appreciate your kind words! Luckily, I caught the signs of thrips fast enough, before they were able to get to my main collection. I did treat all of my plants to be sure, so most are safe and healthy now🌸

I just spent 3 months bringing back powdery-mildew decimated begonias & African Violet (rescued from my Grams' yard) only to be greeted by a new AV bloom w/ black thrip poop and larvae on leaves (the petal damage was so extensive the damage turned purple to crackly white w/ the color leaking from the pierced flesh when touched and hereafter disintegrating). My dang neighbor had thrips on his ponytail palms he neglected and I know that's likely the source.
In any event, your vids on this topic have been so comprehensive & enlightening! Really high value content!

@@qveenissac Appreciate your feedback. So sorry about the thrips! After having managed them last year, I know it can be tough, but you can do it!

Thank you for your excellent videos! I grow African violets and Streptocarpus and the sight of thrips larvae on violet leaves sends chills down my spine because I know the extensive work ahead of me! You're right about inspecting with a magnifying glass any leaf that looks unwell, and periodically even healthy looking plants. Stronger preventative measures are important as well.

@@allthumbs3792 Appreciate your feedback! I learned the hard way, but I’m glad I did. Now I know what to watch out for. So far so good! The most important part in treatment is to treat all plants to break the thrips life cycle and also treat all surfaces in the growing area. Happy growing!

I'm so sorry you lost so many plants. This has been the worst year for insects, both inside and outside I ever remember. I also threw out a couple of heavily infested violets. I did however salvage a few leaves to start new plants from. I sprayed them and scrubbed them thoroughly before planting though, and they are isolated even now.

Greetings from Naples, Fl. I had a collection of about 175 miniature AV and have lost at least 100 in the last 2 weeks. I have been in direct contact with Rob at VB because I just learned about INSV and that is where I bought all of my AVs over the last 3 years. I’m almost certain I don’t have thrips or I would have seen them because I pay close attention to my plants but may have the residual effects from either INSV or some other virus. I’m devastated at what has happened to my AVs.

So sorry about the losses in your collection! I started testing mine for INSV in 2022, so far had positive results from two different sources, all discarded as soon as I saw two red lines on the test strip. One was Rob's Lucky Ducky, I've always wanted it, when I was finally able to buy it, it was so heartbreaking to see it test positive! Given my own experience with thrips this year, and seeing how easily they can get inside and how difficult it was to detect them, made me wonder if they can also bring the virus on them, since they are vector insects. I started reducing my collection, to keep up with testing and upkeep. Will keep INSV testing periodically to be safe. Just posted part 2 about thrips infestation treatment, hope it's helpful: th-cam.com/video/3N-DOR2BoeQ/w-d-xo.html
