You’re spot on. Saying Jews are white is saying Jews are descendants of Europe which is basically saying Jews have benefited from European culture, which we both know Jews never benefited in Europe
“White” doesn’t really mean anything. It’s only used for political reasons to divide people. The genetic history of Europe is diverse with many peoples with unique genetic histories. And just to be clear, Ashkenazis DO have significant European admixture (40-60%). However, that does not mean that Ashkenazis don’t have ancestry from the Middle East, specifically the Levant.
edo edo Yes but you have to keep in mind that unlike Mizrahim (as well as gentile MENAs). The vast majority of Ashkenazi don’t look quite “Middle Eastern”. A minority will show some type Middle Eastern influence in their facial features but most Jews usually look like Avi Kaplan, Joe Trohman, Simon Helberg and Mayim Bialik. These guys don’t look quite Slavic or Germanic. They do however look somewhat similar to Northern Italians and French.
שמעון כהן I never said that Ashkenazim are genetically closer to actual Europeans (Like Germans or British) than they are to Levantines. I only said that Ashkenazim on average have physical appearances that won’t be perceived as “Middle Eastern”. An example of this is Simon Helberg.
Ali Baba: you may be jewish. Anyone can be jewish just by accepting their religious beliefs, and practices. But make no mistake. The Israelites; Ancient Hebrews, are not all jews. Only the tribes that dwelt in jerusalem, we're considered jews. Judah, Benjamin, the priest who were levites, never owned any land. All of the Nation of Israel was not and never will be jewish. To call Israel Jewish nation is a very academic miscue.

nicu marinescu I’m pretty sure he meant to say Arameans. They went extinct but there’s thousands of people in Israel who claim that as their identity. Clearly, YOU know nothing
I think Jews are white because they physically do look white and very similar to Italians. There are exceptions, like yourself and other Sephardi Jews who look more Levantine. And no, as someone who supports Israel, me calling Jews "white" doesn't mean I want to displace them from their land. White doesn't synonymize European. There are Georgians, Turks, Circassians and other people from the Caucasus that are 'whiter' than the Greeks and Italians, and yet they're not European. Europe is a continent, not a race. White is a broad race and it isn't just exclusive to Europe. You can even find pockets of light skinned people (with blonde hair) in Central Asia like Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
What if my ancestors immigrated to the US from Belarus and Poland but my DNA tests doesn’t show up as Slavic, rather, Jews IN, IN Eastern Europe. And what about when I track my furthest paternal ancestor (I’m a male), who was born around Northern Chad/Niger, and the graph showed my ancestors progressively migrate all throughout Northern Africa, crossing the Mediterranean, into the Levant, up to Syria, Then to Turkey, then migrating to the Eastern coast of Italy eventually ending up in Poland in the 1300s? Does that make me white, or fully white? Does my grandfather who had a thick curly black fro mean I’m completely European, because his grandfather was born in the Russian Empire? Does it?
Your opinion is irrelevant. Gone are the days when we allowed others to define our identity. Only WE get to define what we are and being an ally means respecting that. Our culture is ancient and has existed long before the western division between ethnicity and religion and long before these silly western definitions of race and color and so forth. Not knowing that Caucasus folks like the Chechens, Turks, Circassians, Georgians and some Armenians are white too (and that region is in Asia). By the way, the white race developed in the Caucasus, hence "Caucasian". Shocking, I know. You are a bit misinformed, and I don't mean that in a demeaning way. Ashkenazi Jews have lots of European admixture and they came from many native Europeans converting (Before the middle ages that is, before the black plague). Black and brown Jews are converts though, or they're mixed at most (with actual Jews). They're not tied to the land, at least not significantly. There are Vietnamese Christians, and Pacific Islanders are 99% Christian - Are they originally from the Middle East as well?
@yuccalyptus No there are definitely black and brown Jews who have DNA from the Levantine region of the Middle East, just like Ashkenazi Jews. They are called Mizrahi, Sephardi, and Ethiopian Jews
@@juanantonioromeroorozco3062 Who said all were white? People in this thread just said some Jews are white and some aren't, but you didn't read that all.
It is also interesting to point out that in Europe the Ashkenazi Jews were never considered white. Look at the WWII Nazi propaganda posters of Jews in Germany, they were always shown to have kinky curly hair, dark skin and long Semitic noses. And of course there were differing amounts of admixture with white Europeans varying from region to region in Europe. Is it possible that more of the darker skinned Semitic looking Ashkenazi Jews perished in the Holocaust and the lighter skinned Jews had a higher survival rate because they could hide among the white population better and later escaped to Israel, that could explain why so many people are convinced that Jews are white European colonizers just because the lighter skinned Jews had a higher survival rate.
I've always wondered this same exact thing! It makes sense. And many people will look at an ashkenazi jew and say they're white because they happen to come out light skinned but if someone passes as white but has black heritage no one would dare deny them the right to identify with that heritage even if it's clear they have heavy European admixture. Im ashkenazi and came out very light skinned but my cousin came out much darker. It's very confusing when someone like rami malek is called a person of color when he's lighter than my cousin. Whiteness comes with implications of privilege especially intergenerational economic privilege. Rami malek is the son of immigrants. My cousin is the son of refugees. Why is one white and one a person of color. Its all very confusing.

@@Bulvan123 Where do you get the idea the Jews were considered racially the same as the host country? Most of the European countries have almost always made it clear from the very beginning that the Jews have never been the same people as those of the host country. There are many Jews that call “themselves white” and have racial similarities to european white people. A person of “ any race can become a jew” and there are Jews of many racial types. Rudy says racial traits signify different origins.....because Jews have different racial traits and therefore different origins , we cannot assume that all Jewish ancestry is directly related to the holy land and therefore have the right to take land. The thing is many european Jews have dominated the projection of who represent the Jewish people , so many people assume Jews are a european looking people and have a right to the land based on ancestry, while the Jews of ancient times were not a european type people nor ever identify themselves that way.
On One ,there are many types of Jews , and many believe that the ashkenazi jews were a people that converted in the 10 century .... it was written about in a book called “ the thirteenth tribe” by Arthur koestler. How else do we have Caucasian Jews .... when Jews don’t come from the caucuses ?
@On One You do know that the ancient biblical Yudians are of the Nation of Israel, and not today's made up jewsish nation?! As an ethnic African American, this resonates with me. I can also relate to the ideas you presented in the video about Jewishness as a religion. As interpreting Jewishness solely as a religion may have a confusing effect on some Jews, I feel the concept of 'race' and blackness works in similar ways on the African American people. It creates issues with understanding the nature of our own existence, affects our ability to set the record straight when people misrepresent who we are, and ultimately encourages misunderstandings through inaccurate and loaded language. In our case, we are a relatively young people with a fairly recent ethnogenesis and a host of issues; foundation building is fundamental for our health and success. What's fundamental for building our foundation as a people is having a proper sense of who we are in order have better organization and self-advocacy. I think the world could be a little better if we did away with the concept of race when reflecting on most history and modern culture, and instead approached communities and cultures by the identities of those people. Jews could simply be Jews, Kurds simply Kurds, Aframs simply Aframs, etc. Otherwise, day-to-day people could just be humans without loaded color codes and racial politics. I do think it gets tricky when referring to groups like Kurds, Yazidis, Armenians, and Copts as Semitic. If coming from a linguistic angle, the first three are Indo-European while the Copts come from a distinct Afro-Asiatic culture related to yet historically distinguished from Semitic people.

Just because you were discriminated against doesnt mean you're not white. Ashkenazi Jews have mixed with Europeans, they are White and so are we Italians.
Labels of so called "race" (such as "white") have nothing to do with who someone is since they are entirely subjective. When the category you are placed in changes you are still the same person. It's just that some other people may see and or treat you differently. I'm 6' 2" and some people consider me tall. Others consider me average height because they are almost 7' tall. My height is a fact but my tallness is subjective. But I am still the same person regardless of what those people think of my tallness or lack of it. They may treat me differently (pick me for their basketball team or not for instance) but it doesn't change who I am even though it may determine whether I play basketball or not.
Semites - nope, you fell short of your usually well-researched statements there. Jews and Arabs and Assyrians are semites. Kurds are an Iranian-rooted (indo-european) ethnicity.
our logic here makes more sense than this guys video. Seems like he's just trying to distance Jews from Europe as best he can. He needs to realize that because a particular group of people dominate one area of land today does not mean that was the case 4000 years ago. mainly because all races sprung form one source so there ws a moving out period from that source. How long yo stayed in one area needs to be considered and how much your present destination, it's climate, evolved your racial identity. I mean if present day "Europeans" settled in more tropical climates wouldn't they be browner? Don't whites tan after hours in the sun. What if they spent 5000 years in the sun, would that have altered their Genetic appearance?
@@anthonyderosa7730 That's fine and obvious that the original Jews are from the middle east and the also, the founders of Jerusalem were Jews. Moses and Joshua were Jews. My point is, right now I am not a Jewish, however, if I adopt the faith, can I then consider myself a Jew?
@@jimjohnson1305 yup. When you convert through orthodox judaism you are not just adopting the religion. You are considered one hundred percent jewish and even more special than a born jew for returning your soul home. I know there are videos of orthodox jews saying they don't always accept a convert. Those people are ridiculed and frowned upon by real religious jews. And the ones that refuse to marry converts, those are hasidic groups that refuse to even marry another born jew because its outside of their community.
@@jimjohnson1305 for me personally in synagogues I've witnessed orthodox converts literally being pampered and praised by the other jews helping them learn. That's what it says in the Talmud about people who convert. The sages praise them
Several problems with this argument. 1. The first assertion is that "whites only come from Europe". This assumes that everyone in Europe is white. My ancestors for example on my mothers side are from Spain, and I've had numerous arguments (particularly with blacks for some reason) who adamantly assert "Spain is not white!" Additionally many "aryans" come from the Middle East, a notable recent example, Afghani taliban tweeted out images of themselves with blue eyes and blonde hair mocking Americans that they were whiter than us. So obviously you can come from Israel and still be white. And while I don't want to make this it's own point, I think using the term "colonizers" to refer specifically to those of European descent is both racist and ignorant. Plenty of other cultures and races colonized other lands. It's dishonest to claim otherwise. 2. The assertion that "there were signs that said no n-words, no jews, no dogs" blatantly, willfully ignores that these signs more often also said "No Irish." So you've told the Afghanis they're not white because they're not European and the Irish they're not even European. When you have to intentionally omit information to make your argument, then your argument is plain and simply wrong. Usually when I see this question asked of Jews (I note a certain video with Ben Shapiro) it's framed specifically in terms of the pigment of their skin. Specifically he's asked "Do Jews have white privilege?" which while itself is a fallacious assertion is basically suggesting "Have Jews benefitted from the color of their skin?" Shapiro conceded if you believe in white privilege, then yes by those terms Jews would be white, but he dismisses the concept of white privilege as "Asians statistically make the most money in the US, and last I checked they don't pass for white." however if you make the financial argument, it cannot be argued that Jews in the US are not generally speaking more economically advantaged than say a "southern redneck". They dominate the financial sector and Hollywood. ...Not that there's anything wrong with that. What amuses me -in a rather bleak way honestly- is that to try and argue Jews aren't white (forgive me invoking Godwin's law here) is basically making Hitler's argument. That was his justification for much of what he did, because he so desperately wanted to reject the idea that they were "God's chosen people." All I'm saying is, it's not an argument I'd expect a Jew to embrace. And I'll probably lose support with some of those agreeing with me up to this point, but whether Jews are of European or Arab stock, I still think Israel is their homeland and side with them on that issue. I mean the "displacement" argument comes pretty close to suggesting that the Jews from all those other tribes mentioned who mixed with people from other regions *don't* have the same claim to it that other Jews do, and I'd have to say all the tribes have claim to it. But hey, what do I know? According to 23andme I'm only 2% Jew. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
A couple corrections kurds and Arminians are not semetic. Kurds are an iranian people not actual iranians but related whilst Arminians are an indo european people who have developed completely independently from other indo european people in the Coucuses mountains.
Good answer, Rudy! Sometimes you can learn valuable lessons from the people that hate you. Listen to how Neo-Nazis talk about Jews in terms of us being white to confirm much of what was said in this video. For the record, Moses' wife, Tzippora, was a Midianite (the daughter of Yitro, Jethro) who _converted_ to Judaism, which is why she was (apparently) darker skinned. This also illustrates how conversion to Judaism broadens the genetic variation within the Jewish People; I know people from several countries (Honduras, Mexico, Tunisia, and Ghana, to name a few) that converted to Judaism, and people have been converting to Judaism since the very beginning of this religion.
Jewish people are the first people on Earth to document our Whiteness. Focus on these two scriptures: "My beloved is white-skinned and ruddy, chiefest among ten thousand." - Song of Solomon 5 : 10 (3rd Century BC) and also "Can a Black man change his skin, or a leopard its spots? Neither can you do good who are accustomed to doing evil." - Jeremiah 13 : 23 (6th century BC)

Race is not a social construct. And race does determine IQ collectively. Also Jews became Europeanized themselves to the point of being largely White and others largely Arab but still with a mixture of their original Semitic ethnicity. It's possible to get a genetic test to see what race or races you are.
It's definitional. If your question is "are all Jews White?" then the answer is obviously No. Ethiopean Jews are not White. If your question is "are Ashkenazi Jews White?" then they answer is Yes. And you can't decide to redefine the classifications of humans. But if your question concerns identity, then the answer is "it depends." Pertaining to Ashkenazim in, say the US, they are White when it suits them and not White when it doesn't. Its like a "Jewish Privilege." If they want to criticize White America for the social injustices, then miraculously, they are not White. "We aren't responsible; we're Jewish." But when it suits or helps them, then of course they are White. Whenever I go for a medical procedure or treatment in the US, I answer a race/gender/ethnicity questionnaire. That's because treatments can differ depending on those categories. They ask for my "Gender at Birth" because that matters and they don't care how I currently identify sexually. They ask for my race and within the "White" category they ask if I am "Non Hispanic White" because it matters for medicine. I've never seen a category "Ashkenazi Jewish" question unless you are going specifically for the risks and treatments that overly effect them such as the BRCA gene. So for non specific treatments, which box do American Ashkenazi Jews check? They check 'White Non Hispanic."

This was confirmed by another DNA project by Dr. Eran Elhaik at the McKusick-Namans Institute of Genetic Medicine at the John Hopkins University of School of Medicine in 2012. His conclusions were the same!
So-called Jewish Ashkenans have never immigrated from the Middle East!* At the same time, extensive DNA evidence showed that the Palestinians had 80% more or less Semitic blood in their ancestors, who then turned out to be the real Israelites.

There's a difference between ethnicity and race. The Jews, at least the closest to the original Judeans, are semetic, and thus not European. But white isn't just indo-european. Thank you Rudy. A very important topic to discuss and enlighten people.
Rudy spitting alot of facts, for once. Well done.

They may treat me differently (pick me for their basketball team or not for instance) but it doesn't change who I am even though it may determine whether I play basketball or not.

our logic here makes more sense than this guys video.

@N Johnson White people did what?
Abrahamah came from Eastern Ethiopia, racists like confusion.
There was no one called Jews during biblical time. You either came from SubSaharan Africa or the Caucasus Mountains. Jewish is a religion not a race.
Truee!!! Preach!!
Their white didn't mean Anglo or germanic looking people. Most middle easterns are born with lighter skin.
the concept of race doesn't really make sense. For example, the "whites" are European, then there is the Pamiri people who have blue eyes and blonde hair with fair skin. They live in Central Asia and Afghanistan
Yes, put more labels on human beings thats exactly what we need /s
Its called a category 🙄
@@righttimes514 Didn't Hitler put you guys in a "category"?
@@servanttofriend8481 Firstly, "you guys"? Idek what you're referring to.
Secondly, if you're going to bring up Hitler as to why we shouldn't use categories for people, good luck operating in society without being able to use gender, race, nationality, sexuality, or any of the other categories we use like tall or short 😂😂
@@righttimes514 Firstly, yeah you do... Secondly, no one said to not use labels. The original comment sarcastically implied we do not need more labels on people. Try to keep up.
@@servanttofriend8481 no, I don't. Because your first comment made no sense.
Secondly, the OP was wondering if we should call Jews white. And complaining that we were putting 'more lables' i.e. racial distinctions on people. That's a pretty fundamental human category.
In terms of 'keeping up' if someone is going to start questioning the validity of racial categories, then they're sure as hell eventually going to do all the others I've listed
What is the Real meaning of Middle East, because looking at the world map it looks like Africa continent?
Taking on the big questions!
The last part is true. Anti Semites always say that Ashkenazi Jews are Turkish and not Israelite in origin. But today modern DNA shows that Ashkenazi Jews are the real deal.
Jewish Turks are Karaims and Kyrymchaks. Ashkenazis are not
White doesn't mean European 😂
Ya but almost all of the white people came from europe
Well then what does it mean exactly ?
@@weedmc2654 no, many come from West Asia.
Race isn’t real nigga
I think there are white Arabs and Jews but it doesn’t mean they’re European. In fact “white” people or Caucasian originated from the Middle East.

HE IS 100% right They are from West Asia too
Ashkenazis are converts. Only Arabs are hebrew by blood. And this guy although looking middle eastern, his ancestors converted aswell.
No
historically british and american racial maps classify europe, north africa and western middle east as "white".
Maybe African Americans and native Americans are Jews as well? I mean having that pale of skin must have been hard while in slavery in Egypt for 300 years?
Having dark skin does not automatically make you a Semite but there is no denying that the original semites had dark skin. Many civilisations conquered the Middle East which is why you have semites today with blonde hair and blue eyes in the Middle East. Traditionally they had a darker complexion.
‘His feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters’ Revelation 1:15. This is a Biblical description of Jesus of Nazareth (a Semite).
I am Asian (middle eastern) with a bit of European genetics as a Jew.
Armenians are not Semitic, nor "Middle Eastern". The latter anyhow is an anglocentric term with no real definition beyond the political sphere.
Ishmael and Isaac were brothers they were both brown ppl you tell me and we will both know genius ! Ever hear of converts ? Not that hard to figure out !!
Does the person in this video look white to you? Only half the Jews of today come from Europe. Im a mizrahi Jew meaning Je was from the middle east. No ashkenazi for the most part are not converts.

I come from one of the oldest and isolated Hebrew communities in the World.
I have a sugar skin color, that gets easily tent on the sun, blue eyes, black very wavy hair, straight nose, thin lips. My face looks different and maybe strange compare to Europeans.
But, Am I a white man? Yes, I'm just a different kind of white man.
Do I share Western Culture? No, but I'm influenced by it in the manner of clothing for example.
What is a white man? Do Liberals and Woke clowns explain what they mean by this?
All my Family is heavily soaked in Hebrew Culture starting with old Hebrew Names and speaking in old Hebrew pronunciation and ending with exile out the family for marrying non-Hebrew.
If I telling that I m from a white race how do I deny that I'm Israelite?
My DNA is not Middle Eastern, four-plus percent Irish, Welsh and Scottish and the rest European Ashkenazi Jewish. My parents are from Western Russia and Poland. When I was young, I had red-blonde hair and I have blue eyes. My father studied to be a rabbi so I feel very Jewish and raised my children in that religion. My grand daughters were Bat-Mitzvah-ed.
I was told that I descended. from converts instead of the original Israelites.
Well then I guess you're not jewish at all then. It's like an indian guy with dark hair, dark skin and brown eyes to claim that he is slavic or nordic - doesn't make sense
Why not just go with white if it's so great? Maybe yall could get in on all this colonizing privilege
They’re already doing the colonizing so fuck it who needs the title 🤣🤣
we havent been colonizing anything we arent white, race isnt a thing
Not all those ethnicities you mentioned are Semitic

"White" doesn't mean just European and it never did. It means Caucasoid people in the ivory-to-olive range. A person from Europe is a "European". A "white" person can be European, Turkish, Levantive, Berber, Persian...don't confuse the terms.

also how middle easterns/west asians are classified as "POC", even ethnicities like persian and turkish like you stated are considered poc. so jews have "POC" origins/DNA, so were not technically "white" in that sense.

种族 (Zhǒngzú) means race in Chinese. It's cool that the Chinese and Europeans both came up with the same social constructs with such different society's
