I used to play pool and drink beers with a guy called "Frenchie". He claimed to be Croatian but because he spoke fluent French(in California) we called him Frenchie. I used to play pool and drink beers with a guy called "Frenchie". He claimed to be Croatian but because he spoke fluent French(in California) we called him Frenchie. Had nothing to do with the discussion but Rudy speaking Hebrew, French and English had me swooning.
As much as the man hated Rudy for being a Jew and saying so, I noticed he was in no hurry to move on. That interaction shows me that Rudy was in command of their engagement. Not like a salesmen or street vendor or missionary aggressively overcoming passerby resistance. Just a fellow human being in command of himself, being present in the moment with another human being. That comes from HaShem, only from HaShem. Yes, that man's head is filled with outrageous lies about Jews from his youth, and yet Rudy has his attention and with calm the entire time.
One of the reasons I tune into this channel is seeing what good and what truth is possible to come forth between enemies, just as individuals, man to man.
It reminds of a black activist here in the US. He goes around looking for members of the KKK to engage with them as a fellow human being. The man actually approaches these open racists with love, as he tells them. In many cases, over time, there are a number of those white racists, who see the image of God in this human being (the same in all of us), and no longer see an object of their false hate. Many such have dumped their KKK robes and come to the light.
It takes courage of one kind to take up arms and put your life out there for the sake of your people, saving them from your enemy who is trying to kill you. No other courage like it and God with be with you. It takes courage of a different kind to face your enemy in the street who sees the devil in you, and with mere words help your enemy to see the image of God in you the same as in himself.
