  • In the summer of 2015, my daughter and I went on a two-week, 3,300 mile trip in the Bonanza that took us to Yellowstone National Park, Idaho, San Francisco, San Diego and a few other places. Come along and see the highlights of this vacation trip.

    Sure wish life had not got in my way of my flying career. Now I live you and your gray videos. Wish I had a friend like you that I could share my IFR re-certification with. Your videos are awesome and detail you put into is top notch!. Thanks for sharing your trip with your daughter.

    • @martinpauly

      Thanks, Steven. The trip isn't as hard as it may seem at first. The hardest part is making the decision to go in the first place; the rest more or less falls into place. And no more expensive than a dozen or so breakfast runs.

    Absolutely fantastic trip. Best way to waste a perfectly good hour and make it better. I am here in SFO land, working on my instrument rating, watching my daughter grow up just like you. She is half the age of your daughter and I hope to take her on such an awesome trip some time. You just reaffirmed a bucket list item for me. Thanks! Fly safe.

    Not lot of mainstream aviation TH-cam channels create content like you, very unique and lots of hard work goes into that and we appreciate , that shows GA is not dying anytime soon. That's what freedom is all about, going anywhere VFR or IFR and enjoining company with fellow aviators while spending time with family

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My thoughts exactly, spyhunter112 - I hope to make other large trips in the future (and more videos, of course), and return to the west coast before too long. So many nice memories...

      Martin, If possible any tips on mountain flying and supplemental oxygen would be appreciated on your next trip out west. That was the best hour I have spent all year, thank you so much for your wonderful video's.

      Steve, thank you for the kind words. Regarding mountain flying, I'm afraid I am far from an expert - all I can do is plan my route such that I don't NEED to be an expert. I'll keep the oxygen in mind for a future video, though - thanks for the suggestion.

    I never post on these sites, but I'm making an exception today. You upload the best aviation videos on the web. The music you choose, your commentary and your excellent video are amazing. And, you're not asking for money like so many others! Thank you, Martin, for putting so much effort into these excellent videos. You've made me want to get my instrument rating and purchase a BO.

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the encouraging feedback, Mark. Go get your instrument rating - it will make you a better pilot, whether you'll end up flying in the clouds much or not. And flying in the clouds can be so much fun, as you can probably tell from some of my other videos. Bonanza or not - you can travel far in almost any airplane, and it's a great way to see a the country.

      Hey Martin - I currently fly a CH-2T, Alarus CH-2000. I bought it in Torrance, CA, and flew it to Orlando, FL. I've owned two Grumman Tigers and one PA28R-200, but never a BO. I think that will be my next plane. Lots of them available at great prices! First, I'll get my instrument in the Alarus, it's an instrument platform at 6 GPH.

    What a great lifestyle you have! I grew up in the Midwest - Milwaukee - and learned to fly at West Bend at age 17. I tried to see on your hangar map whether you had ever landed there, but it moved too fast. So many nice FBOs for private flying in the US! Thanks for great videos - have enjoyed five or six of them now and looking forward to indulging in more.

      Hello John, thanks for the nice comment. Yes, I really like flying (and living) in the Midwest, that is when it's not cold and snowy. Summers are beautiful here, and you'll find me outside, never complaining about heat and humidity.
      I've flown into Timmerman in Milwaukee, but not West Band.
      Now I'll get back to work on more videos for you and everyone to (hopefully) enjoy! :-)

      Thanks for the kind words. I really enjoy making the flying videos, but this one about my big trip out west sticks out - it's the longest video I've made, it took by far the longest to make, and it's probably the one video on my channel that even non-pilots can enjoy. It brings back nice memories from our trip, and I hope that one day my daughter will stumble upon it and enjoy it.

      Chuck, I don't know anything about the city of Garden City, but the airport is really nice. I have been back there a couple of times since then, again on the way to or from the Southwest. I really like the Italian restaurant on the field.

      This probably remains my all-time favorite of the videos I've posted on TH-cam. Great memories of a wonderful trip with my daughter, who already seems much older than she was when we went on this big trip.

    Martin, thanks for the nice video. I really liked you chart and planning thoughts as we are thinking about a similar trip this summer. I have an RV6 and do a bit of instruction with exec1 at Ankeny. I would enjoy talking with you about some of your travels. Jim D.

      +RVJimD Jim, take a look at beechtalk.com (pilots of any brands are welcome there), and the "neverending MidWest fly-in" thread in the TripTalk area. We have a group of people from Cedar Rapids, Des Moines and other places that get together for breakfast runs and similar events. Join the group at some of those fly-ins, and we can chat a bit. Or come to the Mason City airport BBQ, every third Thursday of the month.

    Martin awesome vlog. I wouldn't call it wasting time . I thoroughly enjoyed it . The scenery was beautiful . So glad your daughter chose to go to the San Diego Zoo . I've never been to it but I've heard it's one of the best Zoo's in the world. To bad you didn't go to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Probably best you didn't try to go swimming in the ocean. I've heard the water stays cold all year round . If you ever fly down to the west coast of Florida near me there is a small airport called Hidden Lake Airport in Port Richey. People have hangers there behind their houses .

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, we could have used a lot more time in most of the places we visited. We were rushed, but at least I was able to give my daughter a first impression of a lot of beautiful places. I'm sure she will pick some to come back to later in her life to explore more.

    Great video. I'm online with Beechtalk as well. I just recently inquired about a good route to the closest ski area from KADS (Addision). I'm not that experienced flying in the mountains and two things I always want to avoid high winds with turbulence and the mountain itself. I like how you showed your alternate route. The V routes really seemed to help you here.

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Brian K Rich MD Brian, I think you have the right idea with avoiding high winds and the highest elevations. The latter is easily controlled by choosing your route. The former requires flexibility in your schedule (or luck); I can see how one could get into trouble easily through schedule pressures.

    It's too bad you didn't take a short jaunt north where I live in Sun Valley Idaho (KSUN), it also it a very beautiful place nestled in the mountains and home to a world class ski resort! You do such a great job with the video and narration. They are very informative and entertaining. I am a new pilot and soon will be flying a Cessna 182Q in which I am excited to fly. I also plan on getting my instrument. I for sure want to take trips all over our beautiful country in the future!

      Roger, you live in a beautiful part of this country! I wish I lived a little closer so that I could visit more often, but realistically it takes a week for me to fly out there, fly back, and have at least as much time on the ground at my destination as travel time.

    Hey Martin, I'm a recent subscriber after I came across your videos! This one in particular is an amazing trip which I would love to do with my son one day, such amazing flying, views and time spent together! I'm a student pilot and planning to get the commercial license in the near future! Thanks for a great video and all the rest and Safe and Blue skies!!

      +djvectrex It was a very special trip. Fingers are crossed that you get to to do that with your son. How old is he, and how far along are you in your pilot training?
      Best of luck for getting your license!

      +Martin Pauly Special indeed and the views and the reality of being in the middle of that vastness and being able to take it all in at altitude, yet we are still so small to nature! Flying is a beautiful feeling! Thank you, he's 2 months away :) so still have a-ways to go! I'm currently at 27hrs and getting ready for the 1st solo xc soon, loving every moment of it! Can't wait to get the first certificate!!
