Digging A Very Rocky Basement With The Takeuchi TB2150

  • Digging a very rocky basement with the Takeuchi TB2150. I started out clearing a few more trees this morning so I could later dig the walk out part of the basement. Once those were cleared out I roughed it a bit then started digging the perimeter of the basement. The basement will have 10' ceilings in it so I need to dig down another 6' This area turns out to be the rockiest part of the site. I was hoping to have my new Felco ripper before I started this job but it's still a few weeks out. So it looks like I'll be going through a few sets of teeth. Thanks for watching! #EliteEarthworks #Takeuchi #diggingabasement

    Well, that "dirt" makes for beautifully sharp edges/corners, but you must be going through teeth like a dentist on steroids! I know you did this work a while back, but as someone who has to live with a 4 - 5 foot "crawlspace" I hope the builder talks them into doing a full basement. Working down there while constantly at a 45 degree (or more) angle is a ROYAL pain. Dig deeper or build higher I say!

    • @eliteearthworksllc
      @eliteearthworksllc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It does make nice sharp edges. They are going to do a bigger basement now but still part is crawl space. The homeowner is 85 but he has a guy that works for him that will be the one to go under the house lol

    we have material like that out here in Southern California we used it when I was a kid
    when pop was doing construction
    we actually used it to fill in around the footings to pour the slab on top of it
    the material out here I don't know if it's the same as back there but out here it's called decomposed granite stuff is like concrete once you get it wet and pack it

    Still not as bad as south Florida. Of course we do not have basements because if you dig a few feet down you hit water. I guess with the flimsy wood framed construction you have there people do not want trees anywhere near their home. That stuff you are digging looks almost like a road base.

      @@eliteearthworksllc - I think it’s mostly limestone. Like sections of Texas, you get down a couple of feet there and it’s a boulder the size of Montana!! 😂😂. As far as I have seen in tv and TH-cam. I like watching channels for pool builds. In our area, it hard to get anyone to do an in ground pool anymore. Short season, anything really elaborate (aka nice) is a 2 year build and it’s a very real consideration to fully enclose whatever you build for more use and greater longevity. $$$$$.

    Have you ever tried rock teeth on the bucket? I have heard mixed reviews from people using them, some loved them said the only way to go and others were not that impressed. Of course, no two jobs are going to be in the exact same conditions, so I have no clue one way or the other really. What I do see, is it seems like mixed loose gravel sized stone but it sounds like you are digging in solid rock and looks like it judging by what you are able to break free in each pass. But you are able to break it to get there, so I ask if you have ever tried them because I think that the added pressure from those types of teeth may help.
    Either way, still hard digging.
    Thanks for the videos.

    • @eliteearthworksllc
      @eliteearthworksllc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t tried them on this bucket but on my 260 I have them. I have the tiger and twin tiger teeth. They do make a difference but wear out extremely fast in this rock. I was going to get a set for this bucket because of this job but they couldn’t get them quick enough. I have found the best combo is a ripper then using the bucket to clean it out. My new ripper will be here in 3 weeks 🤣 always a day late and dollar short

    You might have to upgrade to tungsten to make it through this job… you’ll have those teeth worn to the gums!
    Those oaks are even harder when they are thirsty. I was watching you break the limbs. It sounded like timbers snapping.
    The only good news is… no rain and cooler temps for the next 10 days. I’m posting a video in the morning that’ll show how bad it was at the end of July… all of the rain we’ve had here, since then, is less than 2”. I like it cool and dry for cutting firewood… but digging?

    😂😂 No sense talking about the rock!! I think that’s been covered on this video,,,, heh heh.
    Soooo. How’s the weather?? Looks like you might get a wee bit of rain, but that storm, Ian, may not do much for ya!! I am thinking Chris is going to get his 4-6” plus since the storm is going to go in circles!! Hope it doesn’t keep damaging so much property and blows itself out soon. Hopefully his last pond for the Bealy Goods will be 1/2 full or better!! At 5 acres, it will need a lot of rain and runoff to fill!
    So you have a new Ripper coming,,,,,, very nice! You will miss getting it in time for this job, but since you are not likely moving, you will definitely still get your use out of it! It really has to be better. Even just a narrower bucket to dig the perimeter (fewer teeth, more lbs per square inch pressure) would be nice, then use the big bucket to hog out the perimeter. The ripper is going to be best though.
    As the business grows and develops you are gradually getting all the necessary tools. No sense getting what you won’t use. Smart purchases like the ripper tooth, the sheepsfoot packers, both the Felco and self propelled, when identified you WILL use them, pay off pretty quickly. I suspect the packer has almost paid for itself already. Hypothetically at least!
    Doing very well Brandon!! I like to see people do well. Good on ya, Eh!

      We haven’t got rain for months it’s bone dry here. It is starting to cool off. Yeah I saw he got some rain from it. Yes I was hoping to have the ripper before this job but it just didn’t make it. I’ll have it for the next one 🤣 yes a narrow bucket would even be better than this 42” bucket. Oh yeah the compactor has paid for itself twice by now. Im really glad we got that. Appreciate you watching
