This is a video for all of you returning to the game after having played BB2, but have not kept up with what has changed in this latest edition of Blood Bowl.

The biggest difference is Blood Bowl 2 works
One important point about the Defensive skill that many people neglect to mention, is that it's only in effect during your opponent's turn. You can't negate Guard during your own turn.
That's why it's dogshit and never gets taken.
@@LSOP- If you take it on your runner and put teammates on either side if him, the opponent can't get assists on a blitz. But yeah, most of the time the opponent can play around it.
Chaos is a wild magic of the wheel gaurd is another paint flavor skill.

Difference 1 : One of them works
PLEASE READ. Something this streamer has not mentioned, probably because it was not in the version he is playing is the massive microtransactions that are part of this game. I did some digging and found out they are trimming the fat with this title and turning it into a full-on micro transition hellscape.
Except, BB2 had them as well. Just like in BB3 most people didn't use them.
That's the many reason I don't mention them in this video.
@@cKnoor According to what I have seen its way more egregious and more aggressive. Most of the character customisation is hidden behind microtransactions. I understand BB2 had microtransactions, but not this bad. I also think that just because BB2 had MT's does not excuse the use of them in BB3.
That said I wanted to people to know just how bad the MT's are in this game. And for people who never played BB or BB2. Like myself.
@@cKnoor Also I was not dissing you about your review, please don't think I'm bringing this up to smack your review. As I said there must have been a reason. I mean the steam reviews are sorta show everyone's disdain right now.
I think it's fair to be wary of MT regardless of previous games had them. However you* can't really fake outrage about it when "you" knew it was happening. It certainly wasn't something that they were hiding. It was pretty clear from the betas that it was a thing.
At least this time around you can actually apply your paid for customizations to an active team. You could not do that in BB2.

@@cKnoor except when you bought/ unlocked a piece of gear in the previous games you could apply that gear to ALL APPLICABLE CHARACTERS. In this greedy dumpster-fire of a game, buying a helmet for a blitzer gives you ONE helmet which you can use on ONE CHARACTER. YOU HAVE TO BUY EXTRA CHEERLEADERS IF YOU WANT MORE THAN ONE CHEERLEADER. Please do yourself a favor, stop trying to defend this, stop trying to justify this unfinished cash grab, safe what little face you have left, and admit this is an incomplete game and you were wrong for trying to promote it as anything more than that. Have some self-respect.
Man this release was so scuffed. Very disappointing, but it's good they appear to be aware and handing out refunds. Hopefully by the time it's fixed the cash shop will be retracted too 🙃

That 'declare first then do the action' sounds tedious. I hope they add an option to change it back to how it was like in BB2 for custom tournaments.
As Cknoor said they are trying to put the computer game in line with the tabletop and as I understand that is the tabletop rule. So you most likely be stuck with it.
Gonna feel incredibly weird but at the same time I'm very excited to try something with some pretty big changes going on. Fan of the way some stats are represented as x+ values as well, that's neat and makes things extra clear.
i've started just a week ago playing blood bowl 2 for the first time so those changes doesn't affect me at all... awesome game, can't wait. Hope to see some tutorial videos for new players as well

Blood Bowl 2 is GREAT FUN! Blood Bowl 3 is a pile of mediocrity that they'd have to make severe graphical, UI, and theme to the game. Twill require a massive overhaul to make it fun or even close the experience of BB2.
I actually broke BB2 out again and am playing the hell out of it. I'll wait some time before looking at BB3. Perhaps when they include everything, fix everything, and run a sale in another year or two.
What are the biggest difference between BB3 and BB2? ... BB2 works , BBC 3 dosent work.

i was thinking , lizardman are not in game yet , but i wanted to know with the change characteristic , is a saurus ball carreer still viable? Like now you can try to give +1 agi to a saurus less randomly but does that mean that they try to take the ball into a 4+ or it using his passing skill for doing it , which is probably 5+? (they obviously don't gonna pass the ball , it just to take it).
The main difference is BB2 wasn't a soul-less, unfinished cash grab, and this game is. Saved everyone 15 minutes with one sentence.
i just don't see anything this brings that Blood Bowl doesn't already have. The start of action declare pass/hand off thing is just annoying! i'm just going to stick with BBII. :3

Hey cKnoor! Long time listener first time caller here. I'm a fan of your TH-cam videos and have been watching them on-again-off-again ever since the days of TGS/Crendor Invitational. RIP TB
Most of the changes you have listed are not on Cyanide to fix, they are following the ruleset of the current edition of the table top game. And in some parts I agree, I liked older ruleset better. But Blood Bowl is still Blood Bowl, and for that reason I keep playing :P
I am in complete agreement. I still play bb2 and when tt we play with "old" rules.
The rule change is what got me into bb2 so much.
If you don't have it already when a steam sale comes it drops under ten dollars.
I have never played Blood Bowl, but I want to try it. Looks really fun, and this is different for me, so I might enjoy it.
I would recommend blood bowl 2, blood bowl 3 might have updated rules but it looks worse and it's à live service ea shitfest
I’d get blood bowl 2 man. It’s mostly a really great game (some issues you need to get use to like menus and how some skills aren’t explained very well) but BB3 is a mess right now. I see no reason whatsoever to get 3 over 2.
BB2 is much better.
i can't echo enough that the value has never left Blood Bowl 2. You still just get SO much for SO little and that they are trying to sell a lesser version of an unpopular table top game just makes NO sense. BB3, as a ruleset, is goin' over like an iron balloon! xD Many of us will always play BB2 Legendary Edition though. i don't even think ill pick up 3 when it's in the bargain bin of life, in other words, here in about 5 months!

No passing stat? They have arms - They should be able to ATTEMPT to make a pass, however terrible they might be at it.

It's like you abandon a game IP for decades and then when it becomes slightly profitable now you're gonna give an update?
I think the coolest part of Blood Bowl was the "Living Rulebook" this scrapped together amalgamation of game knowledge and ideas passed down for generations and reiterated upon.
I'm sure this is fine for a certain type of person and if that's anyone here I hope they enjoy it but I don't like it it rubs me the wrong way.
My favorite version of the rules are also the LRB, it hit the right sweet spot for me.

FUMBBL changed to the new edition last year and most of the changes haven't gone done very well with the community as a whole. It's not horrible or game breaking but it's a lot of small annoyances that add up. The core gameplay is still the same so it's not drastically different but, still, so many of the changes are just baffling like giving Underworld snotlings or making elves bad at passing. Speaking of elves, they got kneecapped pretty hard in this edition and Skaven, too, so if you're an Agility player you're really not going to like the new edition. There's also the fact that they created the Passing stat to encourage people to take throwers but then they jacked up the price on the throwers and they made passing even worse than it already was so people still aren't taking throwers. They also lowered the prices of all the star players (presumably to sell star player minis) which has had a very negative impact on tournaments and even leagues. As with most GW games, the rules are written to sell minis and not make their game better.

I think Sneaky Git+Pile Driver on a human Blitzer would be the only possible way I could see that combo being used, if you wanted to do that? It would work, especially if you say, had Mighty Blow and Dirty Player to absolutely maximize your chances of killing a Welf Wardancer, but then again is it worth that much investment on a player who could still get sent off with a foul? Perhaps with a bribe, maybe?
This is super handy, I've been on the fence after seeing all the beta coverage foor... a bunch of reasons, the UI being a huge part of that. It'd make me feel just... genuinely ill.
I wonder about the performance, is it actually consistent/smooth now? I remember all the online test matches; every time you got a close-up of the opponent's team in action it'd lurch down to like 30fps, and that really got me.
Playing standard Xbox One. I've gotten some stuttering, particularly at the start of a game, but generally it evens out when everything loads in. Close ups are mostly fine, although there are a lot of clipping issues so it looks a little janky.

You can still combine Claw and MB, they just don't stack on the Armor roll since Claw checks the roll before modifiers.
Right. And they no longer work if you're not the active player (so it's less dangerous now to risk an 'uphill' block against a big guy).
true, it still can be useful against high armor teams like dwarfs or orcs and against most big guys.

They don't roll Bloodlust currently, as that is not a trait that's officially in the game. This might change when/if GW releases a Vampire team.
My question is, can one player have both guard and defensive by saving up enough SPP and how much would that grind the game to a halt if it became the new meta?
yes you can its probably be as meta as was mighty blow and claw grind etc
The activation declaration really bothers me.
One player takes an entire turn without response, so I fail to see any benefits in declaring specific action or targets at the absolute beginning of each player. My group is still kicking it with the "classic" rules for tt, and being nickel and dimed for teams again sounds like a headache.
The action declaration has been in the printed game for a while. If you declare a blitz or pass then fail a dodge and somehow cant complete the declared action, you lose that action for the turn. Can't call a pass after you move the ball carrier. Same with blitz.

I still fail to see the benefit.
I noticed the new wording of Tackle: "opposing players in this player's tackle zone cannot use their dodge skill". Therefore, from this wording, dodge cannot be used even if another teammate blocks someone in Tacke player TZ!
Haven't tested myself, does it work like this or is this just bad skill wording?
As far as I know it does not work like that, and still works like it did in BB2. But the new rules has a lot of issues with wording, so I'm not even sure this is an issue with Cyanide shortening the rules, or if this is the wording from the rulebook.
Great explainer cknoor. First glance makes me think that move cap could really change the power rankings of teams, and couldn't the TD modifier on earnings lead to very wealthy welfs and dwarves, ironically, struggling to make gold?
dwarfs don't die often, which saves a lot of money
Elves are never wealthy. They die too often and they're expensive to replace.

@@Robin-vp3sc It's not that likely anymore. The game has gotten more bashy. Fouling has gotten buffed and injuries are more likely to be serious or death than before. All this means more dead or injured elves which makes it harder to score. There is also the big nerf to passing. You can't just pick up the ball and long bomb it to another elf and score reliably like you could before. Statistically, all the elf teams are doing quite a bit worse than they were in the previous edition both in leagues and in tournaments.
Good video, unfortunately the changes are so much that the game is entirely different from the joy it once was. I used to play table top before the digital versions of the game, and this new ruleset has made this game unrecognizable to me. I was even in all 3 BB3 betas but unfortunately the game was so unplayable I never was able to even notice the impact of the rule changes. The final blow was when I asked if I could get an errata of the changes so I could test properly, I was told I had to BUY the new hard cover rule book just so I could test their game. The greed of this company and the abysmal testing experience made me pretty much ignore BB3 even after release. Now, seeing the actual differences in your video, it has affirmed that I'm probably best to just stick to BB2 and be happy with that. Thanks for the video.
The errata to the current rules are freely available, but yes it sucks that there are not longer actual rules available. With that said, all the rules are avaiable in other format. For example you can check out www.dadidimerda.it/
I was considering this game but after reading the reviews on steam about aggressive monetization and battle passes, I opted for the first and second games. BB1 chaos edition gave me 23 races, this gave you 12. That tells me everything is locked behind a DLC or "premium" currency pay wall.
BB1 Chaos Edition is two expansions deep, you just paid for the DLC with the game purchase itself. Those of us that had earlier version paid less to upgrade.
What's do you consider the agressive monetization in BB3 to be?
Tha game looks fun. I am a bit disappointed that there is no undead/ werewolf team on launch. The necromantic teams from BB2 were so fun.
Necros and Chorfs were op anyway. I wont miss em.
Afther my early Tests i hated the UI. I did not wanted to get the game... Bute now the UI looks much cleaner so maybe i check it out. I woud also like to know if you would recomment the game or make a comarrsion in general. What is better or changed for good and what maybe you dont like or something like that.

Enjoyed this video. I don’t bother with the MT so the fact that it isn’t mentioned isn’t a problem. Also they are changing it supposedly. Just learning the game. Can worry about customization later on. Don’t most people buy a boardgame and play it to get the hang of the rules and THEN customize or do they open it spend a week or more painting and customizing (or longer) and then play? Maybe I’m doing it wrong? 😂
I didn't like it at first, ...but after a few matches I started to really like it alot. Just the ganeplay tho. Im still not crazy about lack of gear/customization. Every starter team looks identical. At least on BB2, u could change them up a bit.
To be fair the team colour and patterns are more customizable now than in BB2. But yes there are less different heads for the players
Worst ui of any game I've ever played
I just had an urge to get back into Blood Bowl 2 and start a league with some friends who never played before. Find out they are releasing Blood Bowl 3 and as I doing research on it I find Cknoor who I have only ever seen back when I watched the Stellaris pre release streams. It was a pleasant surprise to find him here in Blood Bowl youtube. And now I'm going to binge several of his games
Also, can you rebind keys fully?

Has anyone been able to make A.I leagues and gain spp? (Like in BB2) so far, im not gaining any spp. I havnt tried offline mode yet. I enjoy playing against A.I in leagues and gaining spp, so I can practice and try out new skills, etc. I hope they didn't take that away...

Ignoring all of the rule changes and the like...
Ugh, this game looks *terrible*. The readability is horrible, there's no support for setting up or running player-run leagues, the 'pass' and cosmetics are meant for bleeding you out, and above all, it just reeks of trying to bleed money out of players.
I wasn't impressed during the Beta, and I'm far less impressed now. If you really want to play BB 2020 Ruleset, use FUMBBL or Tabletop Simulator, save your money, and your sanity...
Edit: That being said, I almost forgot, thanks for the video cKnoor, always loved your videos and happy to see you still going now.
Namco is All about that money, Battle passes are the Future of Gaming, unfortunately.... Shame the full game won't release for a few years from now. course Bashy teams are Nerfed to shit anyhow, at least BB2 is still Up.... for now....
Hey cKnoor, is this game actually worth getting into? I played BB2 a bit, nothing major, but I'm thinking about getting into the game again. So my question is, should I play BB3 or go back to BB2? There's a lot of negative comments but I know how quick people are to jump onto a hate bandwagon. I just want a honest opinion.
Blood bowl 2 is where it is at my friend better ruleset with less tedious actions (in BB2 you can move then act but with BB3 you can't do that you have to decide what you do and where you go beforehand) and less predatory microtransactions also all the teams actually feel different from each other gamepla-eise)

I think the biggest difference is that one of them is a complete game that you can get for pennies while the other is an unfinished, overmonetized mess that will probably no be as good as the previous one even after years of development.

These are not enough changes to be interesting. It doesnt sound like Block/Dodge are changed or there is a new league format that will prevent the kill team/TV bloat problems.
The declaring a Pass / Hand Off / Blitz before moving is going to screw me so often. One change I'm not fond of...

Yeah, they're just being faithful to the new 2020 ruleset which requires it. The reason is so you can't for example see how your other rolls go (such as dodge, GFI) before deciding whether to pass/handoff.

Once again they are not releasing the game with any of my favorite teams, will have to wait for a Legendary Edition I guess.

This video is 100% paid promotion. PSA - the game doesn't work. Ridiculous "always online" integration requires server to do every single action. Opened menu? need to wait for server to respond. Edited player? Wait again. Every single action takes minutes. All customization of players is not just available only through cash shop, you only get it applied to ONE player instead of unlocking it for all players. And in blood bowl players die. Yeah.

Vastly inferior single player, no point buying it vs BB2 if you only want single player. And multiplayer currently is utterly broken / unplayable due to server issues / bugs. Avoid, MAYBE.. MAYBE.. come back in 6-12 months.

You'd want it on a sneaky git player, or you risk getting one of your most valuable players getting sent off...

the move being a different action than blitz pass etc so you need to declare it first is nothing major, will just need some time adjusting, is there no right click to get the actions on the players anymore?
You can use the action wheel on players, but it's playable without it for the most part.

Can I just ask how @2:36 you come up with the Dodge equation? Dodging was always based on a D6 roll and a standard dodge on AG3 was never a 7+ dodging tackle zones. Not sure where the "7" comes from?
The 7 rule was a thing in older editions where the result of your stat + modifier + die roll should add to 7 for a succesful roll.
So it would work like this for an ag3 players dodging out of a tackle zone into a "free" square.
3 (ag stat) + 1 (dodge modifier) + roll.
If the roll is 3 the player would succeed, and it worked the same for most rolls, like leap and pass. (Not tentacles)
@@cKnoor that's a complicated way of looking at it. You would just declare a dodge and say "I need a 3+"....I've never had to equate to 7. Shadowing, yes, Shadowing always needed a 7 or more by adding things together but I must be alone in the agility/dodge thing for never using 7 as a benchmark :)

I really dislike the "actions" bar. It makes the game clunkier, if anything, by restricting you.
If you don't do anything to render you unable to, why prevent it? It just punishes you for moving the ball carrier then deciding on a different play???

The armor breaks speed up too much at the impact, loses some of the effect
Piledriver goes on Deathrollers, it is the only way to Blitz and foul with their juicy DP+2 in the same turn

I just started getting into the tabletop game. I'm interested in this game but I'm sensitive to bad game design and business practices so I might have to hold off until they fix things.

Planned obsolescence, Abandoning their fans at every turn. Selling their titles to some of the WORST projects I’ve ever seen. This company is not to be trusted.
BB2 is owned by another company, so it would be hard for them to update it. But yes, without capitalism this would have been easier, and we would all be in a better place.

I'd welcome a breakdown of the menus and general UI/UX. Also, a summary of the pass system and an estimate of how long it takes to max out the pass (to get the races for "free"). If you're up for it and willing ofc. Just spitballing content ideas.
what i have understood from some dev videos, if you dont get the payed pass that gives you the new races at the start of the season, you ll grind them and get them when the season ends.

More info: By now I read that it takes about 50 hours of play per pass to grind a team for free.
Having to declare the rest of what you're intending to do, like hand off etc, at the start else ya can't do it is an effing awful change YUK!
00:04:30 mistake. Old system didn't count TD. You [rolled d6 + FAME + 1 (for win or tie)] x10k. Now you get: [(player1 fans+p2 fans)/2 + 1 per TD ] x10k. New system is much better imho.
You're right, I remembered older ruleset where you get more money if you scored two TDs.
weird that you don't roll a d3 and add dedicated fans each, add up then divide by 2, that's how it plays tabletop
Game still looks worse than BB2 released 8 years ago, same for the UI.
Important notes to add:
random skills increase TV of player less than chosen skills. If you have spare cash its better to roll and eventualy fire player if he rolled bad skill.
Defensive - this skill only works on opponents turn
sneaky git - ignores doubles on armor roll even on broken AC. Arguably new best skill in game, tabletop meta loves it.
Hey cKnoor, watched you for ages, would have really appreciated it if you'd let us know that the biggest difference is that BB3 is a non-functional pile of crap that isn't worth a penny in it's current state.
This is why I am focusing a bit more on gameplay videos rather that strategy videos at the moment. For me it's been ok, very similar to the BB2 launch.
The main issue for me personally right now is that most of the matchups are very easy as there are a lot of less experienced coaches playing. So you tend to win a lot of games.

So for the uninitiated who are confused about a couple of things with the role changes, they make sense.
You mentioned that you can jump over a prone player without needing leap. That's correct. Leap allows you to jump over standing players, and out of tackle zone without having to do a dodge roll (though it is still an agility roll, but tackle / diving tackle don't affect it.)
As for the declaring your blitz target, there are players with Foul Appearance, so your player may be too disgusted by the target that they refuse to run over and punch them.
As for the pass, there is now animosity and disturbing presence, so the player may refuse to pass to their team mate, or be affected by the nearby Nurgle.

I am down with all the changes (I think) except the changes to how we do orders ingame. I feel this is a limiting factor that will hamper the gameplay.
Also not completely sure if I am happy with the change to how we earn gold, I can't imagine anyone would invest in dedicated fans, for a potential diminishing return while the opponent will have a better opening then you.
It's actually quite a good investment for league. If you buy 3x fans, even if you lose every game, you break even away, and will get more money in from the following games than you otherwise would do.
If you manage to draw, even better.

What about the game modus? Which are there? Do we finaly get a better AI? A better AI competition roster?
AI feels the same. Im still trying to figure out how to make leagues and gain spp against AI teams(like BB2). I wasn't gaining any spp on my first AI league. Im gonna try offline mode next
@@redbeardnj and how did you make the AI league? Is it better then BB2 creation where you were only limited by 10 teams per division?
@@JayGryspeert not sure tbh. I only made a quick one. I haven't really dove deep into it yet. The menus and modes arent obvious at first. I also just learned there is offline mode that works just like Diablo2s offline mode where everything is entirely separate from online mode. Offline mode made me do the tutorial again, which was Slightly annoying
@@JayGryspeert oh I forgot to answer your question. When u make a league, irs not called league now. Its called competition. Which threw me off lol. Then u have to add a team manually, and instead of inviting someone (its called manager now) you add A.I.
Its all a little bit wierd at first(coming from 1000 hours of BB2 lol) but im sure we will all get used to it very quick lol
@@JayGryspeert oh BTW, I'm really starting to like the actual gameplay itself. It looks great. I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me pretty fast and started to feel natural fairly quick!
